Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and wet here in brackley this morning .
Today a small local shop later , but this year has been very hard for me as to the amount of appointments at various hospitals in the area mainly Oxford.
I only hope 2023 sees fewer visits .
Take Care,
Mick

No Matt.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where Alexa tells me it’s currently 8°C. We did have torrential rain during the night. I had a rubbish sleep for no good reason. Tossing and turning. No matter, fortunately we have no plans really for today - apart from going over to spend an hour or two with my stepfather and enjoy some more of the smooth malt he opened on Christmas Eve! He is joining all the family tomorrow afternoon as we plan to eat together again but I don’t like to think of him on his own on NYE.

I’m thinking of making Hungarian goulash a lá Delia and leaving it on a peep in the oven for when we come home. I love the tomatoes & paprika combo but won’t bother getting sour cream from the larder downstairs as I’m the only person who likes it!

Enjoy Saturday all who can and for any revellers amongst us, have a great time but go carefully. ‘See you all next year!’.
😁

Morning all

It’s grey, windy and has been raining mist of the night, no doubt it will be raining again very soon here in S E Essex.

No plans for today, DH will cook this evening, I doubt we will make midnight but who knows 🤣🤣🤣

Wishing all dear morning friends a Happy, Healthy and Wealthy 2923 🙋‍♀️🦩😘

A wet and windy start here in rural Oxfordshire. A lovely day yesterday; a long dog walk and a relaxing afternoon in front of the fire, and surprise surprise, my main Xmas present from DH was delivered at last. He quickly wrapped it and I was delighted to find a very expensive bag, which was meant for dog walking, but too good for that! DH has really spoilt me this year, I'm very lucky. Today I am going to visit my sister with DD1 and GC.
No NY celebrating for us, I've never liked it, but I will reflect on this year which thankfully has ended better than it started.
I wish you all a good day with lots to make you smile.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very wet, gloomy South Yorkshire. Chin up, Mick; all we can do is put our best foot forward in 2023.
DD came over and cleaned my house yesterday, did all my laundry and took it home to put in her dryer. Son in law did some jobs for me and a grocery shop. He’s a lovely man - a terrible deadpan tease, he makes me laugh. DD just rolls her eyes a lot!
Today I have some paperwork to sort out prior to talking to HMRC next week about why my tax code keeps going up when my income isn’t! That and some photo sorting should keep me out of mischief today. I will not be up to see the New Year in but I hope it will be a better year than this for all of us.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning all from soggy South Lanarkshire.

We’re still decidedly under par but poor DD has proper flu so her annual Hogmanay party for her friends and their families has had to be scrapped.

She was also planning to have us all go to her house for our New Year’s Day dinner and is upset at having to cancel.

In years gone by the party used to be in our house, even the year I was expecting DD whose due date was Hogmanay although she didn’t appear till a week later.

We have steak pies ordered at the butcher's so DH will take one over to her and keep one for us and DS’s gang who hopefully will come to us tomorrow.

Today I’ll give the house a clean then relax with a film and some crochet.

We’ll watch some tv this evening and bring in the New Year together with a toast to absent loved ones.

A guid New Year tae ane an a’
An mony may ye see!

Gingster Sat 31-Dec-22 08:36:02

Good morning all and it’s another wet and windy day here in Essex.
Well the washing machine repair man came , on time but after a minute or two said ‘it won’t be fixed today, part has to be ordered’ 😤. It’s already been a week and now I have to wait another 10 days. Dd and DIL will do some essentials for us. 🩲🩲.

DS1 is coming round at 10 to put decs up in the loft. I’ve taken most of them down already . It’s looking bare!

We might have a takeaway this evening and raise a glass at midnight , hoping for a better year ahead. We are usually at our cottage by the sea, with friends staying over for a couple of days, but this year we need to be at home for DD , and a couple of our friends are now very disabled with Parkinson’s and hip replacements. We’ll leave it til the spring.

Wishing and hoping for a good New Year for us all. 🙏

Good morning from dark and flooded S Lanarkshire. Our town is okay but many roads to surrounding areas were totally cut off yesterday.

I hope you have an easier start to 2023 than you have had recently Mick, you sound uncharacteristically down this morning.

After a very busy pre and Christmas time, I have had a quiet week. With perfect timing my heating system is playing up and I’ve had to switch it on manually in the morning, so I’ve been dashing down to do that and then retreating back to bed while the house warms up. As a result I’ve been falling asleep again and my whole routine has gone to pot!

Quiet day today and maybe tomorrow too. I’m supposed to be going to DD2 and family for New Year’s Day lunch but the forecast is talking about perhaps snow again so I have laid in supplies just in case! I just can’t face driving in tricky conditions any more.

I hope you and your husband are starting to feel better baubles, this awful coughing virus is really affecting people very badly.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day and most definitely a better year to come 🦩🦩🦩

Just getting light here in the Southside and I'm contemplating an hour of exercise in a minute. I optimistically hope that it will be more acceptable than yesterday. The rain was torrential.
Marydoll it seems so unfair that you are somewhat compromised although I know and sincerely hope that you are still fighting it.
I wish you all a happy, but more important, healthy New Year from this lurker who appreciates all your daily news.

brook2704 Sat 31-Dec-22 08:45:37

Marydoll couldn’t just read your post without commenting, I really hope 2023 is a better year for you. Enjoy lunch with your family today, especially Dollie who sounds like such a lovely little girl. Take care 💐

absent Sat 31-Dec-22 08:48:19

Hi, here in New Zealand we are a little away from two hours until midnight. My two youngest grandsons are peacefully tucked up in bed having a sleepover with me, but they both wished me goodnight and "See you next year".

EkwaNimitee Sat 31-Dec-22 08:49:03

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark damp Carlisle where the weather does not look promising. It was supposed to rain heavily yesterday but didn't, we even had a peep of sun!
I hope you do see fewer health appointments in 2023 Mick. Indeed, My New Year wish for everyone is good health, best not to need the NHS at the moment. But I do very much hope Marydoll gets what she wants and needs without fighting for it.

I'm going out shortly, to get the weekend papers, stock up on some game whilst it's still in season and visit the garden centre--just for a recce really! I already have items sitting around awaiting planting but the ground is so sodden at the moment. I suspect it's raining in the nights and whilst I've been away.

A jolly evening to all who want one, I shall just be enjoying a book.

Grandmabatty Sat 31-Dec-22 08:51:47

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 1° and dry at the moment. Mick I wish you a better year ahead.
Yesterday there was a lot of flooding locally which made meeting up with my friend interesting to say the least! However we blethered for a couple of hours and put the world to rights.
Today I will be doing the Hogmanay clean. There must be nothing in the washing basket, and everything has to be cleaned and dusted and hoovered. I wonder if it's a Scottish thing? I will have to nip to Tesco as there were a few things missing from my delivery. Turnip! How can Tesco run out of turnip? It's traditional in my family to serve mashed swede with steak pie. Anyway today will be busy preparing for the New Year and I hope it's better than 2022 which wasn't great for me and my family. I probably won't stay up for the Bells and I wish you all a Happy New Year when it comes.

Jaxjacky Sat 31-Dec-22 08:54:27

Good morning all from a wet and windy S Hampshire. I’m sure next year will be better Mick and thank you for this thread.
My cough/cold is slowly retreating, sore ribs from coughing, I’ll get out and stretch my legs later.
Have a great time Shazza and all of you celebrating tonight, whether out or at home.
🦩🦩

SunshineSally Sat 31-Dec-22 09:19:47

Good morning everyone from, as Jaxjacky says, a wet and windy south Hants. Overslept today .. so just dipping in quick to wish you all well. Am meeting one of my besties today for a good catch-up and a spot of shopping.

We won’t be going out to celebrate tonight … will probably do what we usually do and curl up on the sofa, log burner on and with a cup of something warming to see the New Year in.

Wishing you all a good day. Thoughts to those that are unwell or are feeling sad.
Hugs and 💐 to you all x

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 31-Dec-22 09:25:21

Good morning from another wet and windy Oxfordshire.
Nothing much happening today, had a clean through the house yesterday. MissOops might be over this evening with the dog, she has pills from the vet, but we need to see who has the least amount of whizz bangs this evening, if it’s us then she will be here. Let’s hope her dog is pleasantly dozy. We will have her and Nephew for New Years lunch on tomorrow, if she is here it will be a nice evening, I doubt that Nephew will appear tomorrow and she will be here so will stay.
We don’t go to bed until after midnight anyway so we will still be up, I’ll probably be reading and MrOops will be listening to Jools Holland whose music I hate.
So sorry to hear that some Grans are still so poorly and that some have sick relatives and friends. I remember the parties we used to have, I don’t miss the planning, but I remember the friends many are no longer with us and others have moved away.
Let’s hope that 2023 brings us all some joy and better health. MrOops has lost a close family member each year since 2018, I certainly hope that changes.
Thankyou Mick for opening each morning.

Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy 2023.

Feelingmyage55 Sat 31-Dec-22 09:26:40

Good morning from a very frosty north of Scotland. I have been reading but not posting as I have been under the weather for a couple of months but I have a face to face appointment with a doctor next week. I have waited well over a year for this!
Following all your stories has opened up my currently rather quiet world and I thank you all for your posts and sharing part of your lives on here. Thank you Mick for the thread.
May a wish you all a peaceful 2023to you and yours.

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 31-Dec-22 09:28:07

Good morning from dreich Harrogate. I’m on the bus going to Leeds, to learn why my MacBook has been playing up and what I can do about it. Am hoping to sneak in a bit of shopping but there
won’t be much time!

The course is 1 1/2 hours so I’ll be starving when I get home (about 2).
I may sit up in bed tonight with a glass of sherry to bring the new year in. DH as a true sassenach has never been too bothered about the New Year.
Happy ne’er day everyone
May this year be the best for everyone!!

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 31-Dec-22 09:29:29

Marydoll. I pray that 2023 can be wonderful for you and your family.

dustyangel Sat 31-Dec-22 09:33:24

Good morning everyone from a clear, bright Algarve.

There’s a yellow warning for rain starting this evening which I’m sure won’t deter the revellers in town but like many of you our partying days are over.
We had a few years where a half a dozen of us lived close enough to walk home from whichever couple’s house the party was at, returning for the car the next day. a bit like Marydoll’s arrangement with her friends I expect. One year it was at our house, the girls not old enough to be out and for some reason our son aged about 18 or 19 stayed in. Years later he told us that he’d thought that it was incredibly boring with everyone chatting and listening to music until midnight when the party really started. 🥳🥳🥳

This year we’ll be tucked up by midnight but if it’s still dry I might get up then to watch the fireworks over distant Albufeira. Or I might not!

GrannySomerset Sat 31-Dec-22 09:37:19

North Somerset is grey and wet so definitely a day for indoors. I need to make a batch of mince pies as I have to provide them for tomorrow’s neighbours lunch, but otherwise I have no plans. We rarely celebrated new year apart from a midnight glass of something nice, though at the Millennium DH presented me with a pair of emerald and diamond earrings - most uncharacteristic, and stolen a few years later along with all my other jewellery. I am glad to see the end of 2022 and hope for better next year, as I am sure Mick and Marydoll do too.

NannyJan53 Sat 31-Dec-22 09:40:19

Good morning from a damp and dull Black Country. I didn't wake up until 9am shock

Lovely afternoon at visiting MrJ's Niece and family, and seeing the newest addition to the family. Just a month old.

Gym this morning. Then tonight we are going with my friend to a local pub to celebrate NYE, there is food and a DJ so doubt will be up early tomorrow!

Marydoll what on earth is happening to our NHS? Shocking treatment.

Wishing you all a much happier and healthier New Year

mamaa Sat 31-Dec-22 09:49:11

Good Morning all, just popped on to say HNY to all when it arrives and all the best for 2023 🥂

hulahoop Sat 31-Dec-22 09:49:42

It's very misty here in West Yorkshire ,bedding in the washer may give in and use tumble dryer 😵 we won't be up at midnight I'm another who doesn't like New Year much .To all you lovely people have a good evening whatever you are doing.

merlotgran Sat 31-Dec-22 09:50:53

Good morning everyone from a wet and blustery south coast. Laundry and housework this morning followed by food prep this afternoon for a family get together lunch tomorrow. I’ll be carting it round to DD’s in the morning as she has a big house and as her MiL is visiting as well there will be more room than all trying to squash in here. DD is exhausted after a bad bout of the lurgy so I volunteered to do the catering!

Hope everyone has a good New Year and better times for those who have been struggling. Also strength for those who need it.

Hello, absent. I was thinking about you the other day as something prompted me to remember the early days of GN.

Cheers Everyone 🍷🥳

luluaugust Sat 31-Dec-22 10:03:22

Good morning from a wet and windy W Kent where the bin men have just gone up the road. Off to get some Cook food for a quiet night, like others it is many years since we did much for NYE. DD may drop by at some point but they did us proud over Christmas and we are quite happy tucked up here.
Marydoll enjoy your family day. Mick I also wish you fewer hospital appointments next year, DH has also had more than his fair share this year.
Every good wish for the New Year wine
