A Christmas 🐷 thread - I’ll start!

Yesterday I ate a whole big box of Maltesers. By myself.

And I’ve just made enough pastry for another 2 dozen mince pies - all to be scoffed by 12th Night, naturally. To be entirely fair they’ll only be very little ones, just a couple of mouthfuls. But at least they’ll use up the last of the mincemeat.

Well, I have finished the chocolate Baileys and there is just one bottle of prepared mulled wine left.

This thread is so funny 🤣 I don't feel so guilty now!!

I have been a bit piggy with goodies generally but especially some high end chocolate. I bought some chocolate salamis (shaped like one, but pure chocolate. nuts, fruit and brandy), from a local chocolate shop. I gave 2 as gifts, ate one in an evening and you have now reminded me that the other is still there and now it’s calling out to me! Eat me, eat me…..

I have been quite restrained this holiday season and been eating mostly a lot of home made soups. I’m saving myself for my Xmas present starting Monday for a week all inclusive holiday to Madeira! I plan to do it justice!!

Last year (2021) between Christmas and New Year I met up with my sister, our DDs and GCs for a walk, followed by coffee and cake in a nearby cafe. It was lovely so we wanted to do it again this year, but the weather was awful.
I invited them to come to us, and bought loads of buns and cakes to have with hot drinks. When they arrived they had stopped off at the bakers' and bought more!
I ate nothing but cake for the rest of the day. blush

Munched my way through a tin of Green & Black mini choc bars, with some help from DH and I've helped him with the Ferrero Rocher. I think there may be a box of mince pies in the freezer.

Well, I have just celebrated my 80th Christmas, in my usual expansive way.

I have recently had test for diabetes and I am in no danger at all, my blood pressure is well within normal limits, without any medication and the probabilities of me having a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years is exceptionally low for my age. I am not on any medication.

So as far as I am concerned I intend to spend all my remaining Christmases. as I have always done. They are clearly doing me no harm at all.

In fact having all my family visiting and staying with us at Christmas, is probably very good for my mental health!

I go to my daughter's or son's fiancĆ©es for Christmas Dinner & New years day ... when my hubby was here, I did dinner & tea here , so used to leave things of a teatime out ( covered up for next day ) even instead of breakfast ate dips with biscuits , trifles etc ... yummy ... I did treat myself to dips etc this year ... just made a pig of myself ... as I have to be careful with my cholesterol also need to loose weight, ate loads of chocolate, lots of things I shouldn't have eaten I ate New Years Day no more ... so no more chocolate for me ... one year my daughter & myself gave up chocolate šŸ« for a whole year ... I say enjoy what you eat, shame to waste it or give it away ... yes given & giving my chocolate away ... ENJOY šŸ˜‰

My god!!!

I can’t believe what a greedy lot you are.

Didn’t any of you feel physically sick after scoffing all that food and drink. And some of you are still scoffing like mad.

Diabetes? Heart attacks anyone?

Your poor arteries will be well and truly clogged up.

Let’s hope none of you get ill and need the NHS.
Good luck with that.

There’s always one, isn’t there?

hilz Wed 04-Jan-23 14:52:38

Oh dear. Is there any hope for us all I wonder. To be fair to me though. I have paced myself but it was only earlier today that I put the Christmas sweets and goodies inside a cupboard as it was too tempting each time I passed those tubs of sweets to nibble one or two or even more. I never put weight on at Christmas but come the end of February I usually find I have a good few kilos to shift. Determined not to do that this year. Mind you I have been determined not to do that since the early seventies !

I love to go nuts and polish off most things in one session.unfortunately DH still has the rationing mentality of "saving for best" /"don't eat all at once" of our parent's generation!! It drives me potty! He guilt trips me if I have more than couple sweets at a time or I demolish the pringles! I tell him things are there for eating and will go "off" if not eaten once opened but he has a 1950s attitude to all.....hang on no he hasn't......... he'll have a couple beers and a whisky most nights to my one g&t /week! Nothing said and my head blown off if I mensh!!

It would be so irresponsible to leave anything uneaten 'Given the price of food, eating those last few mince pies, 'tidying up' the leftover chocolates, demolishing nuts, sausage rolls or drinking the last half bottle of alcohol is a public duty. Guilt and self recrimination can (and will) follow, but for now - spoil yourself!

🤣🤣🤣🤣 and so ends the latest public information broadcast! Got my vote!

minxie Wed 04-Jan-23 14:27:03

The milk tray chocolates are only being recalled if bought before December

Durga Wed 04-Jan-23 14:22:23

I gained eight pounds. Imagine what fun that was. Tasted good, too.

Grannyeggs Wed 04-Jan-23 14:18:07

On New Year’s Day DH and I celebrated by having porridge- our usual breakfast, but this time with the rest of the brandy cream on top with some brown sugar, Yummwink

Oh I'm so relieved to read your posts because I've been feeling really guilty about finishing up all the chocolate, nuts, mince pies (with brandy butter) and the Stollen sent by dear friends in Germany. Well I'm still feeling guilty but not alone!

Shantygirly Wed 04-Jan-23 13:51:01

All the choccies are long gone ... but I am indulging in whats left of the Bristol Cream, Dressed in my fluffy onesie, and a glass of sherry, its like having the central heating on!! loving it.

Since Christmas, I've been hitting the Baileys.

Well, you can't leave a bottle half empty!

It doesn’t keep well. Waste not want not is a good mantra.
