Anyone else? I start to get twitchy if stuff hangs around for too long, but other people like the decorations up for as long as possible. It looks a bit bare though!

I'm looking at my Christmas Tree and thinking it hasn't shed anything this year, it almost seems a shame to get rid of it, but come down they must sometime this week. Although I left one rustic, wintery wall thing up all year from last Christmas which my grandchildren thought was appalling shock Quite the little dictators as far as the right time to have them in place, we're always too late and then putting them away still too late!. They have the air of The Christmas Tree Police about them I'm almost quaking at the thought of their next inspection hmm

Redhead56 Mon 02-Jan-23 18:15:33

Started packing away bits and bobs today. The last thing will be the tree on the 5th.

Twelfth Night for us. Will probably strip the tree on Thursday evening and put that away, remove the cards then everything else on Friday. There aren't any decorations that get in our way and we're still enjoying them at the moment.

Yes we packed everything away this afternoon and everything looks very tidy but bare. I honestly think we are getting too old for putting things up in the loft but have had many of the decorations since we got married and loathe to get rid of them but really should par them down so they could go in a wardrobe.

MaizieD Mon 02-Jan-23 18:30:21

Twelfth Night for me, too. Mine don't go up until Christmas Eve, either. I had a very traditional 'Christmas doesn't start until 25th December and it goes on for 12 days' upbringing and I can't come to terms with it starting in late November!

eazybee Mon 02-Jan-23 18:49:35

My decorations stay up until Twelfth Night , and they never go up until after 19th December (family birthday,)
Can never understand people who put their decorations up so early in December. Why?

Cards, lights and decorations all down. I ran out of energy at 4 so lit the fire and decided to do the tree tomorrow.
Our local alpaca farm has suggested we drop our trees off as the alpacas like to eat them. Looking forward to doing that tomorrow.

DS and family only headed home this morning, so all i have done so far is wander around the house litter picking and washing up

Tomorrow I will start working round the house at the rate of one room a day taking down decorations and giving the room a good clean.

Door wreaths are away, dipped in nut butter and birdseed.

We'll take down baubles and trees on 7th, after Church on 6th.

Pack our large quantity of pretty dec and souvenirs late January.

We've decided the outdoor garden lights are so pretty - we're not removing. The children's funs will all be moved to a shed.

I stick to the tradition of taking down the Christmas decorations on the 5th or 6th of January, so mine are still up.

I regard this first days of January as my holiday from housekeeping, where I just do the bare minimum, although I did wash clothes yesterday and iron them today.

A couple of years ago I bought plastic storage boxes that are large enough to hold a fair amount of decorations and small enough to be easy to carry down from the loft and back up.

It has made decorating and putting the things away again so much easier, so I recommend others to try something similar.

Ours have come down today. Couldn't face the struggle to put things back into the loft so have been online and ordered two attractive looking storage boxes which can go on top of the wardrobe until next year. If getting the things out of the loft this Christmas was difficult goodness knows how we would manage next Christmas!!!

Have just got everything down and packed away this morning, cards cut up ready for a matching game when we return to Rainbows next week. Dusting and vacuuming will be done this afternoon.

Took all of our Christmas decor down and put up some New Year's decorations. Kept the evergreen centerpieces that are doing well. I am now thinking to make a winter wreath and some winter garland to keep on the fireplace.

I always pack Christmas away before New Year as my son's bday is today, 3rd, and I didn't want it lumped together with Christmas festivities (he wasn't due until 23rd Jan before anyone says I didn't plan it properly)
He left home a few years ago and is married with his own son but I still pack Christmas away before New Year.

Matelda Tue 03-Jan-23 13:09:16

I haven't received all my Christmas cards and presents yet, thanks to Royal Mail. I'll wait until the last card I am expecting comes in before I take everything down,

I'm in Belgium, Flanders region. We have Sinterklaas here on the 6th of december. Like Santa he brings toys and candy for the children. We tend to put up our tree not before Sinterklaas has left the country and went back to Spain. Some people put up their tree much earlier, but we like to have our holidays in turn. And usuually our tree has gone to recycling before Epiphany. This year I did some decorations only but not a tree as we spent the holidays abroad. Will keep stuff up for the last seasonal visits this week but come the week-end only the cards will remain.

My big grandson and I got in our live 6-year-old Christmas tree in its tub on the 22nd. It will stay indoors until 12th night.

Grammajules Tue 03-Jan-23 13:26:11

Ours come down at the beginning of the new year but I always find things after they’re packed away. So now it’s a game when the grandchildren next come around for them to scour the house to find things, always baubles or other tree decorations that have rolled somewhere, forgotten snowflake stickers on windows or an unopened cracker. They are rewarded with a left over chocolate treat (not that there’s many!)

EMMYPEMMY Tue 03-Jan-23 13:36:30

I love it once its all gone
Minimalistic just like I like it

oodles Tue 03-Jan-23 13:41:38

I'm going to take down my cards, but leaving the rest up until 12th night, I don't put them up early

It's been my first Christmas in my "new" home, my old house sold in September 2021 so last year I was living in a friends house (Jewish, no twinkle lights) while everything I own was in storage. So it's been 2 years since I've seen my "pretties". Bits I've had for years, snowglobes, bows and bells etc. Although I was on my own for most of Christmas these things go up for me to enjoy. Some came down before New Year, but mostly not before 12th night, instilled in my by my Irish mum. From storage they went into the drafty damp garage, and cardboard boxes were disintegrating, so now got plastic storage boxes ready for the big pack-away. Mine go up the first weekend of December, so up for around 5 weeks. I love the dark evenings by fairy lights .... Guess I'm never going to be a minimalist.

rowyn Tue 03-Jan-23 13:54:27

Packed all away this morning, but I'm sure I shall find something I've overlooked before long.
On the other hand , perhaps not, as I've just found a Very unexpected post card on the doormat, thanks to the postie.
It bears an Italian stamp, and is from my grandsons who have both written on the card telling me about their lovely holiday by the lake.

I'm delighted to receive it, but would have preferred it to arrive last August, ~*which is when they were on holiday there*~!!

Doodledog Tue 03-Jan-23 14:04:49

Mine are down, but I am mid sort-out so the house looks like the inside of a skip.

We decorated and refurbished downstairs before Christmas, and the finishing touches only happened on 23rd, so there is still a lot of organisation to be done. I hate it and find it stressful (probably ADD), but it will be worth it when I finally get there, I hope.

HannahLoisLuke Tue 03-Jan-23 14:05:05

I didn’t put up a lot this year, just a door wreath, cards on gold ribbons and lots of fairy lights. It was so easy in comparison to previous years but I was bored with my tree decorations although they are lovely wooden toy types along with baubles. I’ve now taken down the cards and door wreath but going to enjoy the fairy lights for another day, they add a bit of glow to a dark miserable day.
