Stupid granny mistake!

Just a confession really, and perhaps a reminder to others - I offered to pay for my grandchildren's ice skating lessons this winter. My daughter sent me the information yesterday and I said I would use Paypal to send the money. (They live in the States). Her given name is not unusual, but not too common, and her surname is a German name that I have only seen rarely - so when I looked on Paypal and saw her name, I sent the money on. Then my daughter said she was still waiting and I got a message from someone saying "who are you and why are you sending me money?" Holy Moses!! It wasn't her. I replied, explaining the mixup and after a tense half-hour, she kindly returned the money. I had a restless night and feel very red-faced. In fact, maybe that's why I'm sharing on here - I'm too embarrassed to tell any of my friends. blush

Oh don’t beat yourself up - it was just a mistake and at least you got the money back! 💐

In the grand scheme of stupidity….that’s nothing! Cheer up you got your money back at least.

Easy mistake to make, so glad you got the payment back.
When paying someone for the first time I usually send just £1 and wait for them to confirm receipt before sending the rest. Not so much to lose if it gets in the wrong hands.

You got the money back which is the main thing schnakie. Good advice from PiscesLady and well worth remembering.

Easily done - glad you got your money back .

I did something really stupid on Sunday. I drove my DD, SiL and DH to a local pub for lunch. I dropped them off then went off to park. 2 hours later when we got back to the car I had not only not locked it but left the engine running. It is a hybrid and you cannot hear the engine but that was no excuse. My DD did point out, however, that nobody could drive it away as I had the key!
It did scare me though as I am usually so capable.

My Bil sent someone £9900 rather than £99.

Quite why he has that much in a current account I have no idea, nor why why the bank didn't query it.

Wow, you've made me feel better! Thanks for the comments!

PiscesLady, I do the £1 thing too - with any new payee - just to be on the safe side. Still, I make all kinds of silly mistakes lately, just by not paying attention, concentrating - or focussing. Old age, I suppose?

I do this too....and ask for a confirmation text...then send the rest

I was so mad with myself yesterday, because I parked and had coffee with friends, then to a shop.
When I got back to the car I had a Parking Notice stuck to the windscreen.
I had forgotten to put my Blue Badge on display, forgetting I suppose while I was getting my walker out if the car. Stupid !

When I use PayPal with known people a little photo comes up by their name didn’t that happen with you ?
We all make mistakes and thankfully that was soon rectified don’t worry

I'm famous at the gym for
forgetting, losing, leaving behind, items.

fortunately they know the culprit well. In fact, when I left my car outside with the windows all down someone came and got me....

(I used to have an ld car where you had to do everything manually, and still getting used after a year to pressing the right buttons for this and that)

Nice to know we all can be forgetful or accidentally careless. The idea of sending an initial £1 to check it's the correct account is a great idea. So sorry for AuntieFlo about your parking ticket! They are not cheap these days!
