Do you suffer with earworms?

I have different songs in my head all the time, but there are a couple of recurring ones that I only have to think about and they keep repeating for days or even weeks. The worst is ‘Greensleeves’, closely followed by ‘Bright Side of the Road’ (Van Morrison, from about 40 years ago). My latest is Meghan Trainor, ‘Made You Look’ which I don’t even like.
Is it just me, or do you have recurring earworms too?

I have them, but mine are so much worse in the kitchen. I can be mercifully free of them then go to make a cup of tea and the ear worm of the moment comes in. They vary, but when one hits it stays for days, and is usually just a line. The current one is 'let's enjoy it while we can/won't you help me share my load/from the dark end of the street/to the bright side of the road' over and over and over grin

Yes!
Bright Side of the Road is earwormy

I blame Gransnet for Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellen Bogen by the Sea most of today. 😀

And now 'It Never Rains in Southern California' (it pours)

Makes a change from the Virgin Atlantic advert 🙂

Same here, Callistemon, except that it’s alternating with Nellie the Elephant.
And since I found the Typewriter one on YouTube, that’s trying to get a look in, too.

Ever since the thread about Howard’s Way last week I’ve had the theme tune.

FannyCornforth Tue 10-Jan-23 18:36:45

At the moment I’ve got ‘Boys and Girls’ by Blur.
Also ‘She Does it Right’ by Dr Feelgood, which segues into the theme tune of ‘Are you being served’
It’s driving me potty tbh

Our choirmaster maintained that singing ‘ Annie Laurie’ would get rid of an earworm. I haven’t tried it, as I fear Annie may well replace the previous one!

Atm I've got Chick, Chick, Chicken and Run Rabbit Run in my head which is causing me problems because DH reckons he thinks I'm calling him chicken and torments me. If tormenting was an Olympic sport he'd be a multiple gold medal winner.

Donald where's your troosers sung by Andy Stewart is in my head - unwanted! Dgs1 asks Alexa for it all the time.

"Sharing the Night Together" by Dr Hook is repeating in my brain as I post...heard it on Boom Radio the other day and it just won't go away!! I love Dr Hook, by the way smile

I read a thread about songs from our childhood today - I’m going to scream if I can’t get Nellie the (bl**dy) Elephant out of my head soon!
AskAlice I saw Denis LeCorrier (sp?) at The Sage, Gateshead. He was absolutely fabulous, sang every DrHook song and danced around the stage for the full performance.

I get them all the time and it's usually something I can't stand. I find myself singing it out loud and then shouting at myself to shut up!!

Oldbat1 Tue 10-Jan-23 21:29:06

I suffer from continuous ringing in my ears so a tune would offer a change. smile

My late DH would sing all the time and give me the most appalling ear worms. Now he is no longer, perversely I miss them terribly!

I have a trick to get rid of them. Mostly they happen in the background of the mind but if you stop, concentrate on it and repeat it deliberately a few times it seems as if the brain says 'okay, happy now' and doesn't bother you with it again.
See if it works for you.

I had a very funny earworm yesterday which had me giggling.

Not so long since I got the proverbial bad news from my GP.

Yesterday when having a quiet cuppa I realised some pesky song had been repeating itself in my head for the last hour so I stopped to think what it was:
'Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door '!

I damn nearly choked on my PG tips with laughter!!

Alvin Stardust My Kookachoo is going round in my head today. No idea where that came from

For me a good way of getting rid of a bad earworm is to replace it by a good one.
