My eyes look smaller than usual. . Could be that I am just getting over this chest infection that’s going around and I am tired. Or, is it because I am getting older 76 yrs and it’s a natural process ?
I have tried various different ways of applying eye makeup but it doesn’t seem to help. I have followed tips on makeup forums but I can’t get it right, Any tips anyone please. ,

Without seeing what your eye makeup looks like it’s difficult to say.

Merely I wouldnt want to post a photo of me on here, but I try to use the lighter shades on the eyelid and a darker shade on the eye socket like suggested , I just look tired. I look tired with or without eyeshadow on.

Oops Meryl I meant to type.

I find light eyeshadow makes me look tired. I use taupe blended over the lid and into the socket, plus grey eye pencil between roots of top and bottom lashes (‘tight lining’) and a little mascara if I’m going out somewhere. Colour on the lips makes the eyes look brighter too. My eyes look bigger with makeup certainly.

When I did stage make-up training years ago it was the purple hues that "brightened" eyes and made them look younger. Not sure if they were looking bigger though!

I’ve had to totally change my make up. Not wearing make up throughout the pandemic, when I did apply some it looked totally wrong. I couldn’t put earrings in either because the hole had grown over!

GSM Thankyou. I. Was doing light on the eyelid with brown eyeliner. Will try taupe as you suggest.plus a grey eyeliner pencil

I don't think our eyes get smaller but gravity takes over and our eyelids and brows droop?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 14-Jan-23 17:01:34

I use Hourglass meteorite gel liner pencil Lilypops. It has a very fine point and is a good deep grey shade. If I used black it would be too stark and give me ‘piggy eyes’, but I do use black mascara (Look Fabulous Forever waterproof, it enhances the lashes nicely without being heavy).

Btw brown eyeliner and brown mascara have never done me any favours despite having blue eyes and fair skin and hair.

GSM. Yes piggy eyes is how I would describe my eyes at the moment. ,
Grandma batty. , I think gravity has set in Perhaps that’s the problem !!! 😞

I think that if you have cool tones use greys like Shep suggests, and for warmer tones use browns.
Do you know your colours / season?
There are lots of quizzes online to find out

Lilypops Sun 15-Jan-23 10:41:44

Thankyou FC. I am warm tones but browns are the colours I am having difficulty with at the moment. They make me look tired and my eyes small. I must be doing something wrong,
Oh for the days of youth when I could just do a perfect flick with eyeliner, that was in the 60,s.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 15-Jan-23 10:43:08

Drop the brown eyeliner and mascara, they won’t do you any favours.

Grandmabatty Gravity - that's it, you've solved my problem thank you.

Grandmabatty Sun 15-Jan-23 11:15:21

TopsyIrene you are welcome. Gravity has affected my ear lobes, eye lids and boobs and not in a positive way 😂

Grandyma Sun 15-Jan-23 11:26:14

When I was young I had big brown eyes. Definitely my best feature. Now approaching my 70’s I have no idea where they went! I can only blame gravity ☹️
