Looking for House to rent :Saddleworth/Maccles field areas

We're a retired professional couple, having agreed the sale of our property in South Wales, are looking for somewhere to rent for about six months, starting in February, to use as a base from which to start seeking our replacement home.
We’re considering settling permanently somewhere in the arc from Saddleworth round to Macclesfield so it’d be good if we could find somewhere nearby. Our daughter, who lives in Cheadle is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at The Christie, gave us our first grandchild last summer - hence the reason for the move ! Ideally, we’d like to rent a place with two bedrooms, in a quiet neighbourhood. Thank you in advance.

Try Rightmove and local agents.

What an odd post.

As gsm says - try Rightmove!

You want a short let - but don't mention your budget. About six months? Extendable if required?

I'd expect a decent deposit and a month's notice, unless it was a holiday let. Why would you need two bedrooms for such a short let? As above, I'd look online and contact local agents as well.

Ypu could look at AirBnB!! And negotiate a longer let!!

I think that you need to refine your search Beatrice56 because, according to Google maps Saddleworth and Macclesfield are more than 30 miles apart and divided by the Pennines! Saddleworth is in the North Pennines and Macclesfield is on the East Cheshire plains and so vastly different areas. According to Google maps, Macclesfield is geographically closer to where your daughter works so perhaps that could be your starting point on Rightmove.

Germanshepherdsmum

Try Rightmove and local agents.

Furnished or not furnished?

Perhaps the OP wants a short, flexible and un-official arrangement, rather than a formal contract.

Thats a big area to cover and so different when it comes to types of property and rents.

Hetty58 Sat 14-Jan-23 21:54:15

Fleurpepper, a friend moved from London to Glasgow for work, involving buying and selling homes. She rented a garage to store furniture and managed to get two adjoining rooms, using the rent-a-room scheme. One had a bed settee, so was her sitting room.

It was a relatively cheap arrangement, so she ate out or had takeaways mostly, avoiding the busy shared kitchen.

Fleurpepper, nobody with one iota of common sense would risk letting property on a short, flexible, unofficial basis unless it was a holiday let.

I’m not sure what the OP expects from this thread unless she is fishing for a GN member to rent her a property!

Many people ask for advice on moving to certain areas - I expect the OP is just looking for suggestions.

And a common refrain is to 'rent before you buy' in a new area.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 15-Jan-23 09:29:39

Quite, but surely OP’s daughter is well placed to advise on the sort of area that might suit her parents?

Sago Sun 15-Jan-23 10:00:47

Beatrice56 Are you looking for recommendations of a place to choose in the given area or are you wanting us to come up with properties for you?

Oreo Sun 15-Jan-23 11:22:00

I guess the OP hoped that there are GN members living in those areas that could advise a nice village or town to live in.
Can’t help with that, but surely there will be a few GNers who can.

HeavenLeigh Sun 15-Jan-23 11:29:59

I agree with Germanshepherdsmum, surely her daughter would have a idea of the areas,

Fleurpepper Sun 15-Jan-23 11:36:50

We have rented our place informally a few times- short-term- but only for friends we knew we could trust.

BlueBelle Sun 15-Jan-23 11:38:20

I m guessing you are a new poster Beatrice so welcome but as others have said not much anyone can do on here
Best your daughter sorts some estate agents out and some information on towns villages Google is wonderful for maps places etc a lot of people round here seem to go into mobile homes as a temporary thing while searching
Good luck in your move if that’s what s right for you it’s never occurred to me to move and follow my adult families around although I ve done lots of baby sitting by going to them or when the children were older them coming to me etc
Hope it works out

Hi I lived in Mossley for 25 years ( which borders onto Saddleworth ) try Ryder & Dutton estate agents .there are some nice masionette apartments in Greenfield . My sister rented one before she bought somewhere in Uppermill .Saddleworth isn’t that close to Cheadle . Have you thought about Marple in Stockport or Bramhall which will be closer to Cheadle ? Good luck I hope you find somewhere you like

glammanana Sun 15-Jan-23 11:44:23

My first stop would be Rightmove or the local Property papers.
