I think its the exaggeration I can't stand

It’s concerning though that so many Met police officers are misogynistic, violent men and that so many Tory politicians are corrupt.

I should have added bullying too, exaggeration also leads to bullying and it seems to me that those prone to exaggeration are prone to downplay their own negative behaviour

I think it's a shame that a position that attracts good people who want to make a difference also attracts people who see it as being... idk, either above the law or the maker of their own

When some posters state A is true and you say you know that B could also be true as well, or that there may be variables and then they are adamant that they are absolutely correct and are completely intransigent it can be rather annoying.

What I find annoying perverse is when I've been very careful to say 'some' or 'many, so as to avoid generalisation, some poster invariably jumps down my throat to indignantly tell me that they aren't like that. ☹️

I think particularly when talking about a culture of misogyny, the whole 'but not my Nigel' is used to try to avoid the discussion. It makes it almost impossible to talk about cultures within organisations such as the Met.

Getting back to volver’s original question,

I think that is what it is. Some people are interested/involved, and are open minded to learning from what they read and from others, so have a lot of knowledge That can make them come across as pedantic or confrontational, when often it’s frustration because others don’t/can’t take their valid points on board.
Other people are more focussed on other things, less interested in the wider world and the detail of what makes it tick, and they are more likely to take information on face value and (sometimes, not always) exaggerate it.
I think, it’s really about people’s different interest in/attitudes to the world outside their own sphere of knowledge and influence. Their politics actually has very little to do with it, it’s just a convenient hanger.

volver does annoy me. But so do some of the other longer standing members - it’s a misplaced sense of ‘ownership’ I feel.
I can fight my own battles where it’s worth it though.
As regards the original post, I do wonder whether people live in a very small world and have lost some ability to place things into wider context. There’s too much looking back, too much remembering a better past (it’s always better!) and too much political-based sniping based on a resentment of a long past Brexit or a desire to discard the present government with little discussion of the wider offer from both main parties.

However, picking up on this point in the OP:

It's possible that this belief could, whilst not be true, be thought to be true because the misogyny, sexism, racism, corruption, abuse is endemic in the Force as a recent report uncovered.

Officers who wanted to speak out were put in fear of reprisals.

People do get upset and angry, especially if things affect them which may then confirm their beliefs. Posting on here may help them to relieve their anxieties and annoyance.

I am a bit cautious on here with some people, I wouldnt get in a row with them as I worry about how robust they are. If I am fighting with someone it probably means I think they are a strong character. I am in a roundabout way almost saying sorry to volver if she is still watching 👀 as I am being a bit of a mardy cow on another thread.
