I think its the exaggeration I can't stand

I think that's why I feel I have to reply to some posts in a way that's seen as negative, by some. Why do people exaggerate so?

All Met officers are corrupt.

All politicians are in it for themselves.

All SNP voters hate the English.

All the strikers are trying to bring down the government.

(I don't believe any of these, let me make that clear.)

Why do people take these attitudes? Is it just an attempt to make life simple in their minds, when it's anything but?

^volver does annoy me.^

I am right here, you know. 😼

So would you rather me not tell the truth? It means nothing, we don’t know each other. Chris Packham annoys me too but neither of us are caused to loose any sleep.
Is it not in the nature of forums to have opposing/different views?

I don't mind the exaggerations, its the put down comments
that are rude and unnecessary

How is that an answer to the OP ?

Or is it all a thread about having a go at Volver ? Her op was not a criticism of anyone It was a general question.

Thank you ❤
But I'm worn out, JaneJudge, I spent most of last night dancing with Paul McCartney!
I really fancied him in my dream although I don't in real life. (Well, I did when I was 17.)

Well, most of last night could be a rather an exaggeration 😀

No think sometimes some people get excited and passionate about things that they find intolerable. My daughter has an acute case of politics and she can get quite shouty 'All Tory's are corrupt' she is often heard to say much to my exasperation with her exageration.

I don't know nanna8, why don't you tell us?

That is probably why; they are passionate and fiery about something - at one time they may say it to friends or family or in the pub but now it's on the internet for ever.

I don’t think volver exaggerates nanna8 but she does have very firm views and expresses them clearly. She frequently uses facts and graphs to counter opinions which she considers wrong. I don’t always agree with her opinions but I find her facts helpful, I’m thinking about the reporting and interpretation of Covid in particular here. The press appear to enjoy exaggerating Covid stats presumably to sell more papers.

Some people exaggerate for emphasis, which when done with a light touch may work. When the exaggeration becomes too extreme they lose all credibility and subsequent accurate reflections are discounted. It's all a bit 'the boy who cried wolf'.

Thank you for all those who took the time to respond to the concept in the OP, it has been interesting reading all the ideas.

But what an unpleasant place GN can sometimes be, sprinkled with people who are intent on personal animosity and nothing else.

Thanks to those who stuck up for me, much appreciated.

volver as we both know we are miles apart on so many things politically and ideologically however, I do respect you as a poster and more than willing to acknowledge when I agree with you and any other poster who I usually disagree with come to that.

I agree with maddyone

Volver was very informative regarding the figures quoted during the pandemic

It’s a well know saying in the media -
“Never let the facts get in the way of a good story”
