Cordless vacuum cleaner

My cordless vacuum has died had it a while but now I need something lightweight as I'm not able to push a big upright or cylinder cleaner. I've two dogs and a cat so has to do lots of cleaning, used everyday on carpet and hard flooring. Which is the best?

I've a a GTech Air Ram which I like very much. All the weight is at floor level so not 'in your hand' as it is in other cordless's I've seen, which have the motor unit at the top pf the handle. They do a ''pet' model for dealing with pet hair.

GTech Air Ram, no question.

I have a Dyson rechargeable upright one which I bought from their eBay outlet. It has a warranty but can’t remember how long for. It’s nice and lightweight and very manoeuvrable.

We had an ordinary GTech Air Ram and until we got the dog, I would have recommended it. But it can’t cope with all the dog hairs. Make sure if you have a pet you buy the one that says it copes with pet hair.

I have a GTech (not the air Ram) and it’s beginning to annoy me! It seems to get clogged up fairly regularly, and the suction generally doesn’t seem great. I can’t afford a Dyson. There’s a very basic Shark hand held for about £200. Any good?

I have a Shark, cannot fault it

Yes, and I inherited a Dyson from mum - the GTech is far better imo.

I tried a few cordless; Dyson, Gtek K9 etc. Didn’t last in different ways so have gone back to corded. Shark Liftaway. Best I’ve ever had for dog and cat hair. Really long cord.

I love my G Tech. It took me a while to learn how to clean the filter on a regular basis, though. And the little hand held one is great fir when I spill something. It’s very rare that I’m 100% happy with something I’ve bought.

Another GTech air ram fan here. I also have their small handheld one for doing the stairs.

I bought a Halo. Reasonable in general but wish I had waited for the one that does the hair free tangle. Such a faff untangling it!

I have a Dyson V10. Love it . Charge lasts much longer than my previous Dyson.

Another GTech Air Ram user here.

It’s the first cordless one I’ve had and I can’t believe how much lighter and easier it is than the one I had before. You do have to wash the filters regularly though.

I love my corded Shark Liftaway too Ohmother and IMO it beats the Dyson and Vax hands down. Brilliant on pet hair - I have a cat and a dog.

Just got a GTech Air Ram, to replace my old GTech basic one, which I’ve had for years, and wasn’t working well. Very pleased with the Air Ram so far. We haven’t now got pets, so didn’t get the K9 one. Seems easy to use, and to empty. Was £230, direct from GTech.

Despite my name I don’t have pets at the moment. Bought a Dyson pet one about six years ago and still going strong. Next time might try something else. Maybe GTech.

What’s the difference between an Air Ram and a basic GTech?

Mollygo Sat 21-Jan-23 01:40:22

I didn’t know there was another AirRam besides the GTech, so I can’t help, sorry. The hand held part of ours still works well but the main cleaner now has such poor pickup, we’ve gone back to using Henry.

I had a Gtech air ram and ditched it, it could not cope at all with the hair of one small dog.

I fancy a Shark or a Vax stick.

I’ve got a cordless Shark pet, it’s excellent. But, like all Sharks it isn’t what I’d call lightweight. The motor is on the handle, so it is relatively heavy to use, although lighter than my ancient Miele cylinder cleaner.. My mum has a G-tech, which is better for her as the motor is on the ground. She has osteoporosis, so she wouldn’t be able to manage the Shark. Why not go to a big store and try them out for weight, it’s an expensive mistake to make the wrong choice for you.

There are several Air Rams, and then GTech stick cleaners

I’ve looked at the Which? reviews, the Samsung pet models score the highest after the more expensive Miele and Dyson. Still not cheap though. The Gtech models get poor reviews. There wasn’t a filter for weight of machines, average seems to be about 3kg though. Hope that helps.

My d.i.l. recently gave me her old Vax stick vacuum.
I absolutely love it. It's much easier for my back than those old heavy vacuums. I've never used one before so I have nothing to compare it with.

I have a cordless Miele. It was expensive but gives excellent results. However I find the batteries really difficult to remove, re-fit and insert into the charger. Usually end up swearing at it until DH takes over!
