Keeping warm

This morning I read Cari Rosen on Twitter saying
“I’ve gone backpacking for a month with fewer clothes than I’m currently wearing in bed”

I know the feeling- even with my new warm duvet and a living canine hottie called Rosie I seem to put on as many garments when I go to bed as I put on in the morning!
Not the most glamorous, but needs must!
Go on, how many layers are you wearing in bed - and don’t be like Marilyn Monroe and say only Chanel No. 5 because I won’t believe you!

So funny some of the comments. I’ve got a very sexy nightie NOT fleece nighty bed socks my husbands face says it all . I feel the cold and if he takes the duvet I’m warm

13.5 tog duvet, 2 hot water bottles, woollen socks, long pyjam pants, long sleeved pyjam top and leisure jumper with hood.

Norah

Depends on why I go to bed.

lol

Warm up bed for half an hour with an electric under blanket before getting in and then switch it off. I have a 13.5 tog feather duvet, panties and a long sleeved nightie, which seems to move up to my waist by itself, infuriating. Never any heating on and never cold in bed.

I can't bear wearing anything in bed as it always gets twisted and chokes me. I am however a cold mortal and can't bear to be cold, but my Night Owl 10.5 tog coverless duvet keeps me perfectly warm enough and this is the first winter that I haven't needed a hot water bottle.

And by the way I never have the heating on at night.

I like long sleeved tops and long pyjama bottoms, sometimes bed socks if it's really cold. An electric blanket warms the bed before I get in but it's not an 'all nighter' - I'm reasonably warm.

Can’t wear anything in bed as it wakes me up (except when grandchildren are staying!!!) however 13.5 duvet, think fluffy blanket on top heated foot pad (easy to put on for an extra hour after going to loo in the night … & 4 (yes) hot water bottles for various bits of me that are achy. It’s a bit of a palaver getting to bed!!!

NanaPlenty Fri 20-Jan-23 15:20:54

13.5 tog duvet, t shirt nightdress - if it’s really cold or I’ve got aches and pains a water bottle and sometimes a fleecy blanket over the top. Even at 63 still get occasional hot flush in the night and then I have to put a leg out to cool down before re covering 🤣

I feel the cold terribly, particularly hands and feet. Sleep in long-sleeve full-length nightie (thank you Damart). No heating in bedroom. 9 tog down duvet. Have two hot water bottles which I keep to myself as DH hates them and goes beserk if one of them gets near him. Manage to keep warm and snug all night apart from chilly trips to the loo. Wake up in the morning to damp windows/condensation which DH says is because I keep breathing...mmm

I’ve had night-sweats for 22!years so I sleep.naked apart from pants …can’t tolerate wearing anything else in bed .my duvet is only 3 tog…I do finially wake up cold about 3am then pull over the throw that’s sits on bottom of bed!

V3ra

I like to wrap up warm in bed, always have.
When my Dad was visiting one winter many years ago, he saw me in my thick pyjamas, socks etc and said, "Blimey, it's no wonder your kids were conceived in the summer" 🤣

Ha ha grin Very funny!

Our bedroom is unheated, and currently 14C. An all season duvet + a blanket on top, and a nighty with short sleeves. I do put on fluffy socks when I go to bed when it is so cold, but they come off as soon as I am cosy.

Jjanl Fri 20-Jan-23 13:34:50

Pj’s and a long sleeved thermal top plus socks. I heat an electric blanket for an hour before I go to bed.

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 20-Jan-23 13:33:46

Gosh, I'm a cold fish compare with you hardy ladies. In mitigation, I do not have heat on in the bedroom or share a bed with anyone.
I wear PJs
Use an electric blanket
a 13.5 tog duvet, 2 fleecy throws and an added blanket just now while it's exceptionally cold

Jjanl Fri 20-Jan-23 13:31:05

Pj’s, a thermal long sleeved top and socks. Plus an electric blanket heated for an hour before I go to bed.

GrauntyHelen Fri 20-Jan-23 13:21:44

Naked not even Chanel no5 a 4.5 tog duvet and a cellular throw on top I live in Scotland but have a well insulated home

Daddima Fri 20-Jan-23 13:10:35

I started to wear pyjamas when the Bodach died, for fear I would have a non-fatal stroke during the night and traumatise whoever found me! There is also the chance that a child or grandchild would need a bed for the night and come in after I am asleep and have kicked off covers.
Hot water bottle and 7tog quilt for me, in an unheated room.

Ailidh Fri 20-Jan-23 12:58:17

No bedroom heating, ever. I'd have thought window open if I weren't on the ground floor.
Short-sleeved T-shirt and knickers.
Lightweight, wool-filled duvet.
Small dog.

HannahLoisLuke Fri 20-Jan-23 12:39:08

Long sleeved pyjama top, no bottoms. 10.5 tog down and feather duvet with a light fleece throw on top when it’s really cold. I have an electric blanket but it’s in the loft as I haven’t needed it for years. Would have enjoyed it during this cold snap but can’t be bothered to go up and get it, I’d probably need to have it safety checked first as well.

Juicylucy Fri 20-Jan-23 12:37:55

Sleep with no cloths can’t bear to be restricted in bed when I turn over. Only think that gets cold are my feet

grandtanteJE65 Fri 20-Jan-23 12:36:42

My husband, who is the chilliest mortal in the entire Northern Hemisphere, persuaded me to sleep naked when we were newly married. (Snigger if you must!)

He maintained, quite rightly, as it turned out, that you are much warmer in bed wearing nothing than wrapped up in night-clothes.

It does help if you can afford to warm the bed, either with an electric blanket or with hotties.

Admittedly, we can still afford to have some heating on, but DH, me and two cats in bed - humans under the duvet, felines above it, manage to stay warm all night. Although I do sometimes find my wee black bogle under the quilt that goes over the duvet in the morning.

hilz Fri 20-Jan-23 12:35:33

Only recently have I thought about the cold overnight. If I wake I can't get back to sleep. I don't have heating on overnight and prefer a cool room often sleeping with an open window. But have noticed if I pop a heavy blanket on the bed I do sleep. Its not the same if I put a fleecy blanket on.

Alioop Fri 20-Jan-23 12:14:18

Flo122 I love that about the tortoise 🥰
I sleep alone, the dog is in her own bed outside my door because she snores her head off and keeps me awake. I use a 7.5 tog duvet and just wear and a vest top and knickers, although I do put a hottie in to take the chill off and then it gets kicked out when I warm up.
