Keeping warm

This morning I read Cari Rosen on Twitter saying
“I’ve gone backpacking for a month with fewer clothes than I’m currently wearing in bed”

I know the feeling- even with my new warm duvet and a living canine hottie called Rosie I seem to put on as many garments when I go to bed as I put on in the morning!
Not the most glamorous, but needs must!
Go on, how many layers are you wearing in bed - and don’t be like Marilyn Monroe and say only Chanel No. 5 because I won’t believe you!

I wear nothing and have a 1tog quilt. I do use a lovely heat pad for my back though which I sometimes switch on again during the night as it lasts three hours. I’ve always been hot stuff!

I wear a loose short sleeved pj top, big knickers and fluffy socks. I struggle to turn over in bed if I have pj trousers on, but they’re by the bed to pop on when I go downstairs. My duvet is 10.5 tog feather and down, with a fleece throw and a heated throw too, but instead of sleeping under a warm cloud it gets squashed by the dog snuggled against my back and a cat in the crook of my knees!

I have a 15tog duvet but I wear nothing in bed it’s easier for me to turn or move as I have Arthritis I take my PJs off once I’m ready to settle down as with them on I tend to ‘stick’to the sheet.

I wear nothing, electric blanket is put on my side about half an hour before we go up.

Grandmabatty Wed 18-Jan-23 13:25:36

I rarely wear anything to bed as I don't like the feeling of clothes wrapped round me. I have an electric blanket which warms me enough when I first go to bed. I don't like clothes with buttons, high necks or long sleeves either. It's obviously a sensory thing

Auntieflo Wed 18-Jan-23 13:27:42

Short sleeved pyjamas, and a lightly quilted cotton blanket/ bedspread, topped with a lightweight fleece throw.
My pyjama trousers do make it difficult to turn in bed, but I often sleep through the night without moving. 😴

Callistemon21 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:30:56

Just one layer (cotton nightie), a 10.5 tog duvet but I put a cotton cellular blanket on top of the duvet the other night to feel a bit more snuggly.

Don't like the radiator on in the bedroom so it's set on 1 or frost - but it came on this morning!

HowVeryDareYou Wed 18-Jan-23 13:31:09

I wear knickers and a ty-shirt type pyjama top. My duvet is 4.5 all year round. If it gets much colder than it is at the moment, I'll put a fleece blanket on top

HowVeryDareYou Wed 18-Jan-23 13:31:27

t-shirt top

Farzanah Wed 18-Jan-23 13:32:04

Summer goose down, 4.1 tog duvet with fine merino blanket on top if super cold…….plus a furry hot water bottle. Never cold. Window usually open, no heating at night.

Georgesgran Wed 18-Jan-23 13:33:13

I wore nothing for years, although I always took a nightdress on holiday in case of emergency. In later years, when I shared a room with a friend or my sister-in-law or DD’s, I ended up wearing the nightdress. On holiday over Christmas, I’d packed some ridiculous fleecy Christmas pyjamas, but was really grateful for them and continue to wear them now. Usually I am quite hardy, but I’ve just changed to a 10.5 tog duvet this morning.

Norah Wed 18-Jan-23 13:35:48

Depends on why I go to bed.

growstuff Wed 18-Jan-23 13:40:17

10.5 tog duvet, cotton PJs and long fleecy bed socks because I get cramps if my feet get cold. I don't like the weight of an extra cover. If I'm sleeping on my own, I wrap my duvet round me, so I look like a badly wrapped parcel.

kittylester Wed 18-Jan-23 13:41:13

10.5 tog duvet, t shirt and pj bottoms.

If it gets really cold, there is always dh to snuggle up to.

Callistemon21 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:42:37

I used to get cold feet but they don't seem as bad lately.

But bedsocks or those socks you get free on a plane journey help.

NotAGran55 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:47:26

10.5 tog quilt, weighted blanket, pyjamas. No electric blanket, hot water bottle or animal .
No heating, small window open.

Lexisgranny Wed 18-Jan-23 13:47:53

What a lot of hot blooded Grans we have. I’m just the opposite, I can’t sleep unless I’m warm as toast, but the for first time I have started wearing bed socks. The rest of my nightwear consists of cosy pjs, and a M&S thermal vest (looks like a fine long sleeved t-shirt). By the bed is a very warm cuddly dressing gown, ready to put on when I wake up, I’m afraid my days of nightdresses cut on the bias with spaghetti straps are well over!

LucyLocket55 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:49:10

Always got cold feet. Wear long sleeved nightdress, 15 tog duvet and electric blanket which is on when I get into bed and I turn it off after about 15/20 mins.

Lexisgranny Wed 18-Jan-23 13:52:22

Oh, forgot to add we are thinking of upgrading our 15 tog electric blanket to a 16.5 one and always warm the bed with an electric blanket. Dh has thyroid problem and feels the cold as much as I do.

cornergran Wed 18-Jan-23 13:53:44

10.5 tog duvet, fleecy pyjamas and my trusty hot water bottle. A fleece blanket doubled up on my side of the bed helps me stay cozy, Mr C is never cold.

JaneJudge Wed 18-Jan-23 13:54:42

I just wear a vest and pants in bed. I suppose it might be a good time for going through the menopause

AreWeThereYet Wed 18-Jan-23 13:54:44

10.5 tog duvet and a T-shirt and shorts. Window is always open, and when it's been down in the minus figures recently I've added a fleecy cover to the bottom of the bed to keep my feet warm.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:55:21

Medium weight duvet and moisturiser, no matter how cold it is outside I have to have the window open.

Ginny42 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:59:20

My goodness, I'm such a wimp by comparison! I get into a warmed bed in a thermal vest, a cotton nightdress, and lightweight dressing gown, under a duvet and quilted throw. I tuck a spare pillow at my back which keeps me cosy.

I don't have a DH or a dog!
