Good morning Mick and everyone from a freezing -3 south Hants. Our roads have been frozen over with black ice - so much so that our small town was impassable by car as all roads to it were closed! They are gradually opening now though I haven’t checked today. We need to do a food shop for in-laws today so am hoping it’ll all be fine.
Not dressed yet - had a horrid nights sleep and then was woken by the snoring of both DH and the cat!
Just about to read your posts. Am very envious of Urms 😂 the thought of warmth is lovely. I need to look at kennels and try out DDog out for a trial to see whether he likes it - then we can consider a sunny holiday!
Have the best day you can - thinking of those that are unwell or struggling 🦩🦩
A hug 🤗 and 🌻🌻 for you all x

Good morning all from a freezing Glasgow, its -5°C.

Alygran, what a stunning photo! That's good that things are moving quickly with the hospital, Mick, it's not like that here.

I am in upbeat mode today. Not sure if it is my imagination, but I think my breathing is easier today, after starting the new meds.
I managed the hairdresser's, yesterday, but promptly fell asleep for two hours on my return! Trying to get my independence back, I went on my own, it's only ten minutes away, beside my former school. Baby steps is the plan!
I was shocked to see the old infant buildings at the bottom of the hill had been demolished, giving a clear view of the school at the top. In all the years I taught there, I had never noticed how large it was.

Last night, sitting in the conservatory, taking yet another hem up, (I am so small), I heard the door bell ring. DH shouted that it was just an Amazon delivery.
So engrossed in what I was doing, I never noticed the bundle of love, throwing herself at me.
It was my beloved Dollie! I wept tears of joy, she was the last person I had expected to see.
DS1, a very busy man, who is usually home late, had decided to visit his old mum and bring my wee darling.
DIL also decided to come, despite being anxious about her parents. They favour her sister and her children (poor wee Dollie) and make DIL her feel so unloved.
To keep the peace, they parked their car at the top of the hill, to avoid being seen.
DH and I go out of our way to be pleasant to the parents (involve them in social events, cutting their grass, taking the bins round etc), to avoid any trouble. Non of which is reciprocated, unfortunately.

I am swithering whether to go to Sainsbury's or not today, today. DH has offered to go to Morrisons, but I have cabin fever.
He has been doing the shopping, but he always puts his own interpretation on what I have asked for, despite resorting to showing pictures of the item online. I know I am ungrateful, but I crave a piece of raspberry cheesecake!!

I will go back now and see what you are all up to.
Hoping that your eye is better, Susan.
Have a good day folks.

Good morning all, my corner of South Lanarkshire is still frozen and rather treacherous underfoot.

I’m just having my first coffee made by DH, often the sound of beans being ground is the first thing I hear in the morning. I really ought to learn to do it too.

Our yarn group last evening was interesting as one of the volunteers from our local community radio station had set up his equipment to make a mini studio and was interviewing our leader for one of his shows which will be broadcast soon. There enough were microphones for us all but as most of the questions were about the origins of the group and past projects I was spared having to speak.

I’m hoping Edinburgh is a bit milder as we’re off on our usual Thursday childminding day. I say childminding but as DDoutL is still on maternity leave we don’t have sole charge all day.

Have the best day possible everyone.

harrigran Thu 19-Jan-23 08:28:08

Good morning from a frosty NE where it is -1.
Shopping didn't take long yesterday as I didn't need a lot.
Visited sister for coffee and cake and a chat, it was interesting as my dad's cousin's daughter was there too so we caught up on some shared history.
While making dinner the oven light failed, bit of a problem trying to remove the cover and replace the bulb, going to have to wait until SIL returns on Sunday.
Going to have a quiet day today.

Liberty Thu 19-Jan-23 08:27:49

Good morning from a frosty Suffolk where I hope the sun will shine later as this together with a blue sky gives such a lift to my spirits.

I’m not venturing to my body conditioning class as it involves a journey along quite a few lanes initially but I’m hoping they will be melting when I’m due to meet a friend for coffee and a long catch up later this morning. Because of other things going on we haven’t been able to get together since mid December so lots to catch up on and yet again put the world to rights.

Just wish the world would listen to our collective wisdom of over 150 years!

Hope all have a peaceful day with fewer worries for those troubled.

Grandmabatty Thu 19-Jan-23 08:24:06

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -3° with clear blue skies. It's just turning light and it's very cold! Mick that's good that your operation date is planned. Grandmattie it sounds like you are moving things along. WW you sound very calm in the face of a huge job! Ash safe journey whenever you get started. Susan it sounds as if the eye problem isn't as bad as you feared. I think it's you that has an existing eye issue?
Yesterday I visited my friend who managed to get up for a while. Her and her partner always urge me to stay longer but I was there an hour and a half and she was having another visitor in the afternoon so I left when she looked more tired. I then did nothing for the rest of the day except watch black and white films.
Today I'll tidy round and clean windows and floors. I can see wee handprints on both. It's a surprise dinner tonight. I don't know what I'm having until I open the freezer. Have a good day all.

ShazzaKanazza Thu 19-Jan-23 08:23:39

Good Morning Mick and everyone from a freezing cold Hull but thankfully no snow.

Your pictures are gorgeous Alygran.
Safe journey Ashcombe.

I am meeting the yoga ladies today at lunchtime. Because it’s a zoom yoga since covid she organises a meet up so it’s nice to chat to everyone in person.
Tonight we are going out to our local Italian with vouchers we got as a gift from our son for Christmas. No cooking today yippee. I need to run the hoover round first before I go anywhere especially our bedroom.

Have a lovely day everyone. Virtual hugs to those suffering illness and stress🌻🌻

BlueBalou Thu 19-Jan-23 08:23:36

Good morning from the top of a very frosty hill in northwest Wiltshire , there’s a sprinkling of snow too!
Yesterday I spent some time sorting out and filing all my crochet blanket and knitting patterns, so for once I know what I have!
I had a Zoom art class in the afternoon; I made a right pig’s ear of my attempt 😄 but it was good fun. I tend to’overdo’ and ruin a reasonably good painting all too often 🙄
Today is sorting out wool stash, I’ve been putting it off for weeks….. again I have enough to last me for years (I must stop accepting donations, it’s ridiculous!) That’ll take a few hours.

Stay warm and safe everyone x

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 19-Jan-23 08:23:15

Good morning from a -4 degree Oxfordshire, hopefully it will be another sunny day, but too cold to do anything outside except walk the dog, who stayed over last night.
Good that you have a date Mick, stay indoors and keep warm.
When I hear that Asbestos has been found in a home it makes me shudder, both of my parents died from Asbestosis
so it has to be treated with great care, I’m surprised that you are able to stay in the house WWM.
Granmattie such an eventful day for you yesterday, you accomplished so much.
Urms you are in the best place, enjoy the warmth, although I hate the wind, so I would be indoors with a book as well.

MissOops will have her hearing aids in 6-8 weeks, but is being referred to ENT for an MRI to see why she is having problems at her age. Yet another Consultant who says she is too young to have all of these so called ‘old age’ ailments.

So have a good day everyone, hugs for those who are still unwell.

Pittcity Thu 19-Jan-23 08:23:02

Good morning from sunny Colchester where everything is white with frost. Dry, sunny and getting up to 4 degrees later.
I have only just woken up. This cold has made me very sleepy. Pottering today and perhaps a walk once the frost has gone.
Love to all 🦩 x

Gingster Thu 19-Jan-23 08:17:06

Good morning all and it is bitterly cold with frost here in Essex.
Dd is moving today and I am awaiting my instructions. When the house is empty, Dh and I will go and clean, take down curtains and have a general check around.

Poor girl is coping so well with everything - I just hope all goes well today 🤞🙏.

Safe onward journey Ash.

Take care everyone.🥶❄️

karmalady Thu 19-Jan-23 08:14:23

good morning, s somerset is at-1 according to my trusty weather statio, outside it will be dangerous underfoot for hours

I am not lighting my stove for a few days. The sun can do its work through the windows, if it comes out as forecast

I suspect that I will be knitting socks and more socks, I am doing my best to stash bust my sock yarn leftovers. Stash of yarn needs busting and is forefront right now, so a couple of swatches to be made later with potential for summer tops

I don`t know what I would do without the cosy crafts, last year it was throes of whole house painting inside and all the mess that entailed. The years before was a settling-in time with lots of drilling and so on. I think being satisfyingly occupied in the coldest winter months is key for me

Have a safe day everyone

Gala Thu 19-Jan-23 08:09:25

Good morning from a cold & gloomy Sefton. Can't actually see any 'weather' going on out there, no wind or rain, no obvious frost but I can hear some frantic car scraping. That does not bode well.
Busy day yesterday. Exercise dance class on Zoom first thing, followed by Pilates class in 'real life' in a nearby town. It's a bit of a rush but I don't want to give up either class. Dental check up in the afternoon was my first since 2019 & Covid! A couple of small problems was a case of leave well alone for the time being & monitor 6 monthly. As we are now having to go private that was ok by me. NHS dentists taking on new patients are not even thin on the ground, they just don't exist.
Zumba in real life this morning then a pottering day. Takeaway for tea.
Positive thoughts for those with worries & struggles. Take care & look after yourselves whatever you are up to today.

Susan56 Thu 19-Jan-23 08:06:48

Good morning from chilly Shropshire🥶Another powdering of snow and ice on the road this morning.

Yesterdays opticians appointment went reasonably well.New glasses ordered and an urgent referral to the eye clinic at the hospital.I say urgent, he said if you don’t hear from them in a couple of weeks give them a ring🤷‍♀️

Childcare today so off to playgroup this morning then school pick up this afternoon.

Whitewave I really hope the work can be done quickly. What a nightmare😩

Glad things are moving ahead with your medical appointments Mick and hope you get a definite date for surgery soon.

Safe travels Ash and olddudders.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

Taichinan Thu 19-Jan-23 08:05:06

Best wishes for a smooth crossing today Ash.

Urmstongran Thu 19-Jan-23 08:05:05

Wow Grandmadinosaur! Seems we certainly are. 😊
kitty I hope your husband got some reassurance yesterday from his GP? And WW that sounds one helluva job. Expensive too I bet. Hope it’s soon done.

annsixty Thu 19-Jan-23 08:03:25

Good morning all from a very snowy Stockport.
Living just a few miles from Manchester airport I can verify that fact Grandmadinosaur
Yet another day in for me.
It was bitterly cold last night.
So little to report, I, who likes my own company, am getting cabin fever.
Have the best day you can everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 19-Jan-23 08:03:22

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I peeked through the window and there is either an extremely heavy frost or a light dusting of snow! The cleaning ladies are due today so it will be nice to have a sparkling house. I am seeing friends this evening so have defrosted a cake - white chocolate and raspberries. I just need to whip up some cream for the filling. I still haven’t sorted out my iPad battery but it’s too cold to venture far! Have a good day.

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 19-Jan-23 08:02:06

Good morning all from frosty Harrogate it’s —2 degrees.
That sounds like a living hell what you are going through Whitewatermark, especially this time of year!
Hope Ash and DH are safely in France.
Today I have a Sainsburies delivery after which I hope to go into town. This evening I have a zoom chat to my sisters
Have the best day possible folks

Taichinan Thu 19-Jan-23 08:01:36

Good morning from the Angus coast where sun-up will be arriving in 40 mins. A long time behind you, Alygran, lovely photos. I've just read that Manchester airport is closed because of snow Urms - stay where you are! We had a prolonged squall of sleety rain yesterday morning, but it was bright sunshine in the afternoon when I took my friend out for coffee, and sunglasses were required against the glare!
Tai chi, followed by shopping and another raid on the new fish shop, for me today - which means an afternoon falling asleep in front of 'Escape to the Country' and 'The Repair Shop'
Have a good day everyone and may all your troubles be little ones x

GrannySomerset Thu 19-Jan-23 08:00:04

Early start as am taking car to have its computer interrogated to find out what is wrong with the lights. Hope I am not sitting around for too long, but first will have to defrost it, a task I hate. No other plans but something domestic will doubtless present itself. Have a good day everyone.

Ashcombe Thu 19-Jan-23 07:55:00

Good morning, all, from a very chilly Portsmouth Harbour where we’ve just boarded Normandie.

We had a good journey yesterday with DH choosing to drive the whole way. Last night we enjoyed two very decent meals and a bottle of wine for under £20 in the pub next door to Travelodge!

I am grateful to the thoughtful gransnetter who contacted me regarding the general strike in France today! The ferry is running but an ambulance with blue lights has just raced on board so we may be delayed.

We are hoping to have a full English breakfast on board before catching up on some sleep. (We always book a cabin).

Wishing you all a good day! Wrap up well if you’re venturing out! 🦩❄️🥰❄️🦩

Grandmadinosaur Thu 19-Jan-23 07:53:09

I heard that Manchester airport is closed due to the snow Urms you are in the best place.

cornergran Thu 19-Jan-23 07:43:51

Morning Mick, morning All from a far too cold and frosty corner of Somerset.

Decent day yesterday, chores done, a cuppa out was followed by an unplanned walk on the seafront just before dusk, the light was wonderful with a very low and beautiful sun over the sea.

No idea of the shape of today, a quiet, wait and see day, fine by me. Mr C has a hospital procedure tomorrow which will have us on the road before 7, excitement enough for one week. Medical issues are moving forward for you too mick.

Take care everyone. Hope Thursday is kind to us all.

Urmstongran Thu 19-Jan-23 07:41:49

Here’s Matt.

Good morning everyone from Málaga. It’s sunny but there’s a cold wind. Brr! We won’t be going far today. Can’t complain though as when my stepfather rang yesterday he told me they’d got snow! We have a high of ‘only’ 14°C. When it’s windy like this it seems to affect the internet here with ‘buffering’. I couldn’t log on for soops last night.

I’ve finished the Maggie O’Farrell novel. I didn’t enjoy it as much as ‘Hamnett’. I thought it too fanciful and overly descriptive to the point of irritation at times. Never mind, I have a new Kristen Hannah ‘The Garden’ to start today.
😁
No wonder this is my happy place!
