Gloomy Day!

Honestly, for the first time in a long time the day has been so gloomy, grey, dark, cold, bone chilling, damp and just YUK! I have been 'inert' and actually had to set up an action chart with smiley faces to get through the day! What do other Gnetters do on days like this to invigorate themselves?

I love days like this.
The Summer is an anathema to me.
The brightness, the heat, the sensory overload.
For me , this is great

I agree it was horrible dark damp freezing, I tried to take a walk but I cut it short there was no joy in it. I watched a film ‘Bank of Dave’ it cheered me up a feel good film.

My aunt always tidied her cupboards and drawers on a rota.
I try to do something in the house in the morning then either read a book or my family tree. It's a good excuse to give myself the time.
I agree it can change your mood if you look out constantly at clouds and rain.

Awful day here as well . I sorted out the toy boxes - 2 bin liners full of (1) outgrown toys for charity shop and (2) for the dustman. Felt good

Good for you. My daughter loves dark winter days.

Hate these days I had to go to hospital today coming home every window on the bus was opened as we sped along the fast roads it was like sitting in a freezer it’s dark it’s dank it’s bloody cold and it’s raining
Bring on spring and summer I wish we had summer 9 months if the year it’s so awfully depressing

Damp and grey here but indoors warm and busy. Love it, but looking forward to warmer, even hotter weather. It is all fine by me. But I don’t like snow.

This winter has really got to me too. Very unusual for me to feel this way but I am lethargic, and basically feeling a bit frd up. Lit the fire , enjoyed the warmth and hoping I feel more positive tomorrow!!

Today has been quite bright and sunny. Yesterday was gloomy. I sorted out some of my kitchen cupboards in the morning then read my book and watched TV.

Yes bit gloomy herer in North west lancs, sat for a while this morning lolling about. Then give myself a kick up the aris and took off to Clitheroe, had a wander round booths, bought a big bag of crisp so I could park on the car park for 2 hours, then had a look round the charity shops.

As I posted on the GM thread, a pink dawn was replaced by a damp grey morning here in Durham. However, when I emerged from a cafe early afternoon, it was quite pleasant, relatively mild and bright - I needed my sunglasses to drive and pottered in the garden for half an hour when I got home.
I’ve also noticed that it’s staying lighter later, but still very dark mornings.

Grey and bone-chilly today here on the South coast.
I walked myself along the seafront; everyone was muffled up. And then I saw three women in the sea with just their swimming costumes on - hardy souls indeed!

While I was out I found a garden full of yellow pansies in pots and that was a very cheering sight.

I use January as my spring clean time. Though I would never put myself on a par with anyone who is a good cleaner.
Spring time is when I want to be outdoors not in.

I have been calling myself Cinders! I will go to the Ball! But not for a couple more weeks yet.

Yesterday was cold, dark and dismal so I cleaned the oven. It looks brand new now (apart from the shelves that I haven't got around to doing yet) and Mr A got a very dirty look this evening when he cooked the Haggis in the oven instead of the air fryer. Today was even damper so I cleaned out the wardrobe. Found a tenner in a handbag and a glove I thought I had lost. Tomorrow I'll be going out for coffee to spend the tenner 😀

really horrible gloomy and cold day here too

I baked a bit, I cleaned the kitchen sink area so that the sink was very shiny and uncluttered

I sorted some wool and some sewing patterns. In fact I was on my feet from 8 to 12, busy doing positive stuff

Then I sat and knitted all afternoon and it ended up being a nice day, even though the weather was poor

Witzend Wed 25-Jan-23 21:45:54

I’ll go for a brisk walk, come home thinking hooray, I don’t have to go out in that grey drizzle again, put plenty of lights on, and do whatever I feel like. Which will not usually be housework. Read a book, knit, do some prep for dinner, etc.

It is going to be sunny today, so outside for a while I hope .

Usually we would try a get a few holes if golf but the course has been closed so much this year due to so much rain and therefore mid or we go for a walk. Yesterday I had my hair and nails done and the a Trustees Zoom meeting. Golf today with the ladies section...lovely fun game no pressure.

Another gloomy day in store - no rain I hope as am off to the hairdresser for some much needed maintenance smile

I hate gloomy days. Yesterday started so well with sunshine but later developed into grizzling rain.
We did, however, go to the garden centre.

Yesterday was a bleak grey day in Somerset. However it was a fantastic day - very excited to hear the line-up for Rewind South 80s (ish) festival in August.

Already had the tickets (early bird) and nearby accommodation, so was just waiting to hear who's on... really nice surprise!

Depending on my mood, I either curl up with a good book, or more likely attack some task I have been putting off for ages.

Today our weather is as you describe, so I washed floors this morning, and have some mundane sewing - new tapes in wash-flannels etc. to attend to now.

I also have the end-of -the -year bank statements to go through and if I think for a while I can possibly find various other tasks of similar interest to pass the time attending to.
