Welcome dear Kitcheners. Make yourselves comfortable. There is a tasty, virtually calorie-free buffet ready and waiting.

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!

Snap, Grandmabatty, mince and tatties, with carrots , onions, mushrooms and turnip for dinner here tonight. Having a wee rest now before Eton mess... and CTM! Glad the wee boy's party went so well, and you had a chance to catch up with extended family. The cake is amazing, you've taught your DD well!

Blossoming, you look amazing! Lovely photo and perfect glasses.

Dusty, i hope your DH is OK, what a fright for you. Well done to your girls for organising such a special occasion, you'll be looking forward to seeing all the family.

Sounds like you had a great wee break, BladeAnnie, it'll do you both a power of good

I had a wee fright on Friday, another ' chest pain ' episode, well all of my upper body from my elbows up to my jaw... so I used my spray for the first time, it helped, without causing the headache I had been warned about. Just left me exhausted, dozing for the rest of the day. My postponed appointment is now on Friday, 2 hours in the Cardiology department for treadmill, ECG, ultrasound etc. I'm hoping for some reassurance, or hopefully a diagnosis treatment plan.

Happy days to all celebrating, meeting up with family and friends, or dining out/ gallivanting!
Thinking of all with sorrow, worries or pain.
TOYA, NNGB. 💕🙏

Blossoming

LadyLFL I’m looking forward to seeing a pic of your new room, you seem to have a real flair for design judging from your previous projects.

Thank you Blossoming! The curtains should be delivered next week and I’ll take a picture.

What thoughtful ‘girls’ dusty, that will be very special, sorry to hear about your husband, hopefully a simple answer will be found.
And a special party for your grandson Grandmabatty I’ll bet his face was a picture.
We took the family out for a delicious lunch, a local pub we’ve used before, never disappoints, 7 clean plates and full tums, not expensive either, I had a lamb shank, a real treat.
Have a pleasant evening all

Good evening dear Kitcheners. I have been very lazy today and have done little other than read, listen to the radio, drink tea and eat a bacon roll! MrB is cooking pasta with chicken in a creamy sauce. That party sounds wonderful Grandmabatty and I love the cake. I have looked at some of these paid for channels Brook but never find enough to interest me. So glad your husband is OK DustyAngel, the planned celebrations are well deserved! What a lovely day you’ve had BA, haven’t visited Spurn for many years.

Grandmabatty Sun 19-Feb-23 18:22:56

Dusty how lovely of your daughters.

Urmstongran Sun 19-Feb-23 18:03:11

Oh how utterly fantastic dustyangel regards the joint 80th birthday party! Such a lovely thought by ‘your girls’ to organise this. 😊

I sincerely hope your husband gets reassurance too from a thorough check up soon. x
Then you really will be ready to PARTY next month 🍾🥂 🎉🎁 with so many people who are special to you both and whom you haven’t seen for such a long time. x

Hello everyone. I’m relaxing with the newspapers and a cup of tea. OH has driven daughter to the station to get a train back to London. It was a lovely visit. She doesn’t like the new room! I had to have help at lunchtime peeling various vegetables because of my arthritic thumb. I managed pretty well though, but had to ask OH to turn out the steamed marmalade pudding.
I’m sorry a body has been found, possibly the young woman who went missing. I hope the family will not be harassed unduly.
Have a good evening.

I’ve not caught up with you all but I can see there were a few photos among the posts that I’m looking forward to reading, as soon as I have time!

The last few days have been a bit fraught to say the least. On Friday morning both daughters and their cousin were due to arrive, the girls (all in their fifties) flight due about 9.30 am with the plan being that they’d phone as soon as they’d landed and DH would go and pick them up to avoid unnecessary parking fees. The best laid plans as they say….

DH collapsed in the bathroom again, fortunately not hurting himself but needing an ambulance call out to get him upright. The paramedics decided to take him for a fuller check up to our local health centre which is also a mini hospital. Meanwhile I was trying to contact DD’s to tell them to get a taxi.

Fortunately there seems to be nothing seriously wrong but I think our doctor will insist on even more hospital tests this time. The girls, who laugh at their nickname but what else am I going to call them, have gone into full time organising mode and not let either of us do a thing. We’ve been out to eat with them, had an evening in without them and all things being well will go out with them tonight.
Not only that but DD1 has been in secret contact with one of our favourite local restaurants where they’ve arranged for 17 members of the family to join us to celebrate our 80th birthdays in March.

I feel honoured, not so much that they have done this but also that so many people, including DH’s older sister are making such an effort for us. Some we haven’t seen since well before the pandemic. All this and there will also be an open day at our house the next day. I quote “ You won’t have to do a thing Mum, we’ve got it covered.” shockshockshock.

‘Evening All’.

My stepfather has not long gone. I sided the table and washed up while Himself drove him home. Our get together was subdued somewhat this afternoon by the news that a body had been found in the River Wyre area - a part of the country not far from us, that the 3 of us know well. We all raised a glass to her.i

RIP Nicola Bulley.
Our heartfelt thoughts are with your family tonight. x

Good afternoon dear kitcheners. We are enjoying our last day away. We went for a drive along the coast to Spurn Point (as far as we could in the car) - sadly there's no way I would be able to walk to the end so we sat in the car and took in the lovely views. We then meandered (really winding little roads!!) back to Withernsea and had lovely fish and chips. Well you have to have fish and chips when at the seaside don't you?? Wishing you all a very pleasant evening. TOYA 🌷🌷

brook2704 Sun 19-Feb-23 16:40:09

So pleased the party went well grandmabatty it sounds like you all had a great time. I bet the cake tastes as good as it looks, well done to your DD

Grandmabatty Sun 19-Feb-23 16:10:12

Good afternoon kitcheners. I'm not long home after dgs1's birthday party which was a huge success. His mum had organised Spiderman to come and dgs1 was so excited. Spiderman played games with the children and stayed for half an hour. Soft play is always a good option and the children loved it. I sat with my aunt and uncle at a nice warm table and we blethered. It was good to be able to say, "Not my problem," when wee ones cried. Dd had made a fabulous Spiderman cake which looks and smells amazing. I expect a bit tomorrow. I'll add a photo for you to salivate over. Mince, mash and dumplings for dinner. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Well done to you Galen I hope the baking is going well, I don’t like bananas but the carrot cake sounds yummy
Brrrrr it’s a very windy and chilly afternoon here in Inverness, I braved the garden for an hour but that was enough so I’m in now with a cuppa. I was trying to do some decluttering this morning but I think I just moved things from one drawer to another .. I really must try to be more ruthless ..
Sounds like you had it all well organised yesterday Urms, well done!
Happy times neine spent with your DGSs and memories made
Salmon, potatoes and veg to cook for dinner and a glass of wine. I’ll have to look on Netflix for something to watch on tv later. I’d cancelled my Netflix after Christmas as couldn’t find anything much to watch that I liked. But when DGD was here the other day she accidentally reactivated it so now we’ve got it for another month - think I’ll bill her mum! 🤣

Urmstongran 20 years ago my hair was a rich dark chestnut brown!

Bellanonna Sun 19-Feb-23 09:50:31

Naughtyneine, I loved your post. A weekend with you sounds like huge fun, (not sure I could manage rolling down the hill nowadays though). No wonder your GSs felt they needed that sleepover!

Urmstongran Sun 19-Feb-23 09:46:43

You can’t fool us Blossoming we know you’ve dug out a photo from 20y ago thinking we wouldn’t notice.
🤣

Seriously, you look wonderful! Your skin is amazing. The glasses really suit you.

Naughtyneine Sun 19-Feb-23 09:44:05

Galen...look up Nadia's carrot bundt cake.. it's very easy..I didn't bother putting the frosting in the middle like she does ( the truth is I didn't have the cream cheese at that point). I made the frosting afterwards and put it on the top and everyone has raved about it. Give it a go.
Urms that made me laugh...my DD3 used to text me on a Friday and say the boys have said they NEED a sleepover with Neine...I used to hand them back to a very relaxed laid back Mum and Dad after Mass on Sunday!!!!. By then I looked like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. 3 different breakfasts ( always with ice cream to follow)...rolling down hills...movie and popcorn nights... Water fights in the bath...and the site of all 3 of them fast asleep in the big bed. What I'd give to do it all again.

Blossoming Sat 18-Feb-23 23:10:26

Galen could you use a perching stool in the kitchen?

NannyTopsy that did make me laught, licking the dog! grin

Nannytopsy Sat 18-Feb-23 22:55:27

Galen You go girl! Mind you, carrot cake isn’t the easiest, with carrots to grate and walnuts to chop, orange rind to zest. Can you choose something a bit easier? It is my favourite though.
Just watching Match of the Day before bed, but Wolves lost 🥲.
I think it’s OK to stop sterilising everything for Fergus - DD caught him licking the dog today! Hope this message sends - internet issues.
Sleep tight everyone 💤

Galen Sat 18-Feb-23 22:27:00

Grr!🤬Im finding cooking on 2;crutches very difficult.
I’m exhausted after making an easy banana cake that would have been done in minutes in the past.
I need to make a carrot cake tomorrow! I’ve never made one before , but I’m determined to have a go!
I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED BY PAIN AND DISABILITY!!!

‘Evening All’.

We’ve had a busy but delightful afternoon with the Boy Wonder and L’il Miss while their mum and dad went looking at new kitchens in a showroom. They had an appointment (sign of the times it seems). I thought they’d be a couple of hours but after four hours I bathed L’il Miss and washed her hair, guided the Boy Wonder into the shower and left him to it ‘then jump into these clean pyjamas’ and made their tea. They were both sat eating at the breakfast island as the key went in the door. “You can come in now” I called “it’s all in hand” ha!

We got home and I just couldn’t be bothered to cook so we thoroughly enjoyed sardines on toast and I had a glass of fizz. I’m yawning already so I think I’ll turn in. Himself is watching a war film. We are so different!

Goodnight kitcheners. I’ll read your posts tomorrow.
By ‘eck, that wind’s got up round these parts this past hour. I’m glad our hatches are battened down.

Blossoming Sat 18-Feb-23 19:05:26

Glad to hear you’re safely home Cornergran and Mr.C has had some food and a sleep. I had to rest my hand and arm after my eye angiogram a few weeks ago. Luckily they did it in my left arm as I have to use the right hand to carry my walking stick!

Hope the itching eases soon Yia

hulahoop Sat 18-Feb-23 18:54:31

You’ll need your energy and patience Yia before entering the housing fray! But, it could go really smoothly, fingers crossed for you both.
A very lazy day with the paper, then a saunter to the local.
Quiche for dinner.
