Welcome dear Kitcheners. Make yourselves comfortable. There is a tasty, virtually calorie-free buffet ready and waiting.

Dull drecht day in central Scotland today such a change from yesterday. Made leek and potato soup today help yourselves to a bowl as you sit by the fire. Had sea bass for dinner it was delicious. Not too much else happening today just a bit of tidying drawers. Hope everyone has the best night possible.

DS isn’t doing too well on his chemo treatment. I’m not in a frame of mind to write much else, but I wish everyone in the Kitchen a peaceful evening. Xxx

Hello everyone. I’ve had a good day. Church in the morning. A beautiful Georgian building but freezing! I don’t usually keep gloves on indoors. Then OH, younger son and I had a delicious lunch at our favourite Sunday lunch venue. OH is now driving son back to Oxford to get the train to London. I am looking forward to watching the Pottery programme. I record it and start watching halfway through so I can skip the adverts! Have a good evening.

‘Evening All’

I’m cosy and full of delicious food. We had beef in ale. I’ve got Happy Valley to watch at 9pm, yay! Himself has been watching football this afternoon.

I rang 3 dear friends for goodly catch up sessions and was on the phone for 2 hours all told. Emails & texts have their place - but you can’t beat a good old natter!

My stepfather was in fine fettle when we saw him at lunchtime. He plans to start collecting his newspaper from the newsagent round the corner next week, which was heartening to hear as he’s not been out on his own since Christmas and I was getting slightly anxious in case he was losing confidence. However all is well.

Pleased you enjoyed your Sunday roast with good company soop a really good way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Good to hear you’re comfy in your pjs now
A long wait for your appointment hellogirl you’ve been very patient, hope all is ok
Hoping Mr J is back to normal soon Jax and good that your DGD has made up with her mum
DH was working this morning but phoned to say the car had a puncture and he was stuck in the car park. We then found out that this fairly new car doesn’t have a spare tyre, just a tyre inflation kit that he’d never used before. He’s not the best with anything new or different but after much muttering and grumbling on the phone to me, managed to use it to inflate the tyre and get home. So he’ll be spending tomorrow getting it fixed
Fingers crossed for a successful outcome nannytopsy, sounds like it’s not been thought through properly

I feel like the white rabbit at the moment, never quite catching up with myself. Since SiL arrived on Friday, I’ve twice written a long screed and been interrupted before I could post it and therefore lost it. I’ve still not caught up properly but I wanted to thank Urmstongran for telling me all about her Orlisat. It made me laugh but I don’t underestimate the effort involved.

I’ve managed to wean myself off a lot of things over the years including chocolate but as I seem to have mysteriously gained a few pounds over the winter I’m going to have to go back to eating very carefully again if I still want to have a glass of wine with my dinner.

I was worried about SiL climbing up to clean the skylight in our bedroom which got mould round it through the winter. He managed that before I’d even made a coffee this morning but it was more hair raising watching him and DH turn the dining table over to tighten a screw holding the plate glass top steady. I had visions of the glass slipping from DH’s grip and shattering around them both. Annsixty will know how solid that glass is.

It’s a treat not to have to think about what to eat tonight but it is difficult to find a favourite restaurant that is open at the moment. Son in Law’s favourites seem to have all decided to have their annual holiday now and aren’t reopening until after he has gone home. Tonight the choice is Peri Peri Chicken 🍗.

Jaxjacky Sun 29-Jan-23 18:11:24

Funny you should say that Hellogirl, MrJ is still not right and instead of the planned roastg chicken, his favourite, he’s requested sausage and mash, so it shall be.
I had a call last night to go and get our granddaughter, having had a big spat with her Mum, she’d said she wanted to come here, 15 year old girls! But it’s good she wanted to stay with us, they made up this morning.
A quiet day, we’ll watch some TV, including Happy Valley later.
Enjoy your evening all. x

Hellogirl1 Sun 29-Jan-23 17:44:19

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your Sunday roast Soop. Were you at The Royal? We had bangers and mash for a Sunday change, very tasty as well.
Round about this time last year, my GP informed me that I had Atrial Fibrillation, put me on medication and told me to expect an appointment in the post for the cardiology clinic. It`s just arrived, my appointment is on the 20th March!
Nannytopsy, that sounds horrendous, I hope your planning objection is successful.

Nannytopsy Sun 29-Jan-23 17:01:22

Well done SweetiePie!
DD and the lovely Fergus have gone home, leaving the granddog with us until Friday. Fergus lay on our bed sucking his toes and blowing raspberries this morning - such a lovely age!
Now to fight with a planning objection to submit in the next couple of days. A large car auction site (ie wrecks) in a Suffolk village, creating 1000 vehicle journeys per day.

soop Sun 29-Jan-23 16:42:02

As a treat, we've had a full Sunday roast in a wonderful hotel in Campbeltown. Our friends invited us to join them. No special occasion. Just a lovely outing in happy-making company. Have only just returned home. I'm slipping into my pj's and cuddly dressing gown. Won't be doing anything remotely energetic for the remains of the day.

Sweetie Pie was waiting on the door mat. He's now reclining on his tartan rug (in the utility room) with a bowl of delicious feline food. All's well with the world.

I shall return tomorrow. Wishing you all a very pleasant Sunday evening. smile moon

Grandmabatty Many thanks for updating us. Gallstones are very painful. A ruptured eardrum must be awfully distressing. It's Grandmas like you that are worth their weight in gold.

Grandmabatty Sun 29-Jan-23 16:13:42

Thank you all for your kind words. Dd is feeling better although her ear is still sore and she can't hear out of it. It will improve. That's nothing to what I was worried about though. Dgs1 is away home. He was an absolute sweetheart. I have a chicken curry in the slow cooker and I'm chilling on the couch. The weather here is horrible. Rain and wind. Have a good evening Kitcheners

Nannytopsy Sat 28-Jan-23 23:19:29

Good news GrandmaBatty and I hope progress continues.
I’m in bed very early for me - it’s nowhere near bedtime yet!
Sleep well everyone 💤

dragonfly46 Sat 28-Jan-23 22:42:24

So pleased your DD is home and pain free Grandmabatty.

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Jan-23 19:22:36

I’m pleased your daughter was assessed and some treatment given Grandmabatty, hopefully the gallstones will pass and the antibiotics kick in.
Tough times cornergran 💐 it doesn’t help when our brains work overtime.
We’re having a quiet evening, enjoy your fizz Urms.

Good news, grandmabatty! Phew! flowers

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 28-Jan-23 19:02:47

Hello everyone. Good that some of you have had good news about loved ones. I had a lovely time with my friend who sometimes has scenes in restaurants. She was fine today! We had a delicious lunch in a village in the middle of nowhere. I am now home resting with the cats. Younger son is currently making lasagne from scratch. Yum.

Urmstongran Sat 28-Jan-23 18:38:32

Cheers!

Urmstongran Sat 28-Jan-23 18:30:47

‘Evening All’

I’m very much enjoying sipping my Moët treat! Himself is watching Preston -v- Spurs and will watch Man. Utd -v- Reading at 8pm.
💤

I’ve prepped our meal. I tend to ‘assemble’ good quality food rather than do a recipe these days. We’re having salmon fillets, with fried mushrooms to which I add some chopped spring onions, and broccoli. ‘Privet leaves’ according to Himself - his least favourite vegetable. I tell him that anything dark green is a super food ...
😁

Grandmabatty so glad to hear your daughter has been seen & diagnosed so promptly. You are good having your grandson over to sleep tonight to give her chance to rest up. What a worry today will have been! You and your boy (love ‘wee scone’) will sleep well now you’ve seen her and both been reassured.

dustyangel thank you! My weight loss programme started last September. It seems to work out at about 1lb a week. I’m on a low-fat diet. As the months have gone by I’ve winged it occasionally by having a handful of chips or one slice of a pizza if Himself is having one! Orlistat then breaks down any fat in the stomach & gets rid of 30% of it (by the usual route!). If too much fat is consumed it gives you ‘tango knicker stains’ if you break wind and need to hot-foot it to the loo. Too much information! But especially in the early days it really made me pay attention to fat content of foods. I’m advised no more than 45g of fat per day, 15g per meal with one Orlistat capsule.

As the nurse says it’s a long haul - to educate you going forward to making sensible food choices. It’s to educate you its ‘not a diet’ but healthier eating.

Sorry, I’ve probably bored you with too much detail.
I’m just delighted to have been offered support by the nurse (who can prescribe it) and it actually works.
I’ll shut up now!

Have a good evening kitcheners. x

Grannmarie Sat 28-Jan-23 17:49:28

Thanks for updating us, Grandmabatty, hope the antibiotics kick in soon and your DD is free from the gallstones pain. A good night's rest and a long lie will work wonders, she can rest assured that the wee boys are well cared for. I hope your wee DGS1 enjoys his sleepover in his dinosaur bed, now that he has seen his Mummy and Daddy. I hope you get a good sleep too!

Cornergran, blessed are the peacemakers! I hope you and Mr C enjoy your restful Saturday evening after all the peace brokering.

Well done, Jaxjacky, we can't all be nurses, I realised that when DH came home from hospital in a wheelchair last summer, needing assistance that I had never given before...thankfully he is much more independent now. Hope MrJ is doing OK, I'm sure your dressing is fine!

Good evening to all in the Kitchen, I hope you have a good weekend.
TOYA.

brook2704 Sat 28-Jan-23 17:38:38

Sounds like you’ve had a very busy but useful day corner, especially as the peace negotiator! Good to take your mind off things a bit too, I’m the same, if I’m busy then I spend less time worrying about things I can’t change
I’ve been out and about with DD1 this morning, shes lucky as she lives within walking distance of town so we walked DGD to her dance class and then a quick look around the shops with DGS in tow - he wasn’t impressed!
This afternoon I wrapped up warm and pottered in the garden for an hour or so, mainly just cleaning out some pots and a bit of weeding. It was good to be outside though
Looking forward to fish, chips and peas tonight - a Saturday favourite!

brook2704 Sat 28-Jan-23 17:22:24

So sorry to hear your DD is poorly grandmabatty, what a worry for you all. Sounds like she got some prompt treatment though, thank goodness. I hope she’s much better soon and your DGS settles well for you this evening. 💐

cornergran Sat 28-Jan-23 17:18:51

Thank you for updating us grandmabatty. Hope your daughter can rest easily this evening and sleep well tonight. Gallstones hurt!

Been ferrying our elder son around today, it felt like the clock had been turned back 30 years to teenage taxi. Also had a good chat with our former daughter in law. She has many stressors just now, it was good to catch up face to face. I do think we’re incredibly fortunate to have maintained a reasonable relationship with her. As a result we’ve been out most of the day. After a disturbed night, head like a washing machine, it was good to be out and about. Less time for pondering current granddaughter issues which I can do nothing about or dwelling on uncertainties about Mr C’s health. I do like certainty, if I know what is then I can and do deal with it. Not knowing just eats away at me. Daft woman. I’ve also spent a few days brokering peace between a worried friend and her equally worried daughter. The tension got to them both and there was something of an eruption. A truce has now been declared. Hope it holds.

Time for some catch-up tv now. We try to have a quiet Saturday evening just relaxing as much as we can.

Take care everyone. Hope you enjoy your weekend.
