What do you collect?

In the book I’m reading one if the characters says ‘Everyone collects something’ which got me thinking.

I collect costume jewellery such as pendants, necklaces, brooches etc. none of them cost much more than about £10.00. I must have at least a hundred in my hoard.

So what do you collect?

I used to collect pens.
When people went abroad and wanted to bring me back something, I would say a pen please.
I figured they were easy to find and cheap and useful.

I like tea towels. My Mum used to bring me them back and now I buy them myself when we go away.
Lovely colourful reminders every day.

Christmas snow globes, suits my sense of order as they only come out once a year.

I don’t collect anything. I can’t bear clutter.

I have bags and boxes full of crafting paper/card in many many colours and patterns. The problem is I have got fed up with card making and have a huge stash of made ones.
I looked at my 'collection' with the '30 bags in 30 days' decluttering project in mind, but so far can't bring myself to get rid of any.

I used to collect thimbles and displayed them in glass domes.
DH used to give them to celebrate special events, like the birth of my children, birthdays etc.
I have some beautiful Wedgwood and Cairngorm Glass ones.
However, we are about to decorate our lounge and I'm thinking of getting putting them away.

I also collect strings of semi precious stones from markets abroad, which I make into jewellery, when I have the time.
Once I got dressed to go to school and realised my dress looked really plain, so I made a necklace made of jasper, there and then! It would probably have been easier to change clothes. 😁

Jigsaw puzzles. I have about 60 now, stored in the loft. Every time my husband goes up there he swears they are breeding.

Rubbish. I collect rubbish. Or maybe it is just that I can't get rid of it. I know I have too much of it. I do so envy tidy people.

Me too... but obviously it's actually treasures grin

Fridge magnets from places I visit. They were stuck to a fridge once but after getting a new kitchen I have painted a wall with magnetic paint and I can look at them and remember where I have been.

Books especially Children's books. Some of them are quite old and if still in their original dust covers can be quite valuable. Not thinking of selling them because they give me joy and happy memories.

Books

When I was young books were an escape for me, now they are soothing because I can reread them knowing what will happen but still enjoying the story

This is me. Can’t bear surfaces full of “stuff”

Can’t bear surfaces full of stuff
Nor can I but unfortunately our mantra seems to be ‘a place for everything and everything out of place!!’

We collect Welsh art. By Welsh artists or about Wales. We have been collecting for years and have about a dozen paintings and prints. A bit slow .

When I was a kid I collected Wade whimsies, china crinoline ladies and glitzy jewellery. When I became interested in antiques I collected Victorian jewellery and accessories, which I now sell. I used to collect Islamic furniture but I dont have any more room!

Anything with enamel. Quite a few bits of Danish jewellery and salt and pepper pots, plus compacts and other bits and pieces. Best thing is they are all stored away on a cupboard. My niece wore one of the enamelled necklaces on her wedding day.

I collect wool, fountain pens and I have quite a collection of jewellery.

I don't collect anything.

I have collections but have stopped collecting. Porcelain military figures (too expensive now); small silver items like Vesta cases and calling card cases; Georgian silver caddy spoons. And Country Artist bird sculptures. Someone once gave me a china bell; I foolishly bought another to keep it company, and all of a sudden it was “oh! GreyDuster collects bells!” and I was inundated with the things. I’m seriously considering ditching all the above. No-one will want it after me.
