In the book I’m reading one if the characters says ‘Everyone collects something’ which got me thinking.

I collect costume jewellery such as pendants, necklaces, brooches etc. none of them cost much more than about £10.00. I must have at least a hundred in my hoard.

So what do you collect?

Elephants. Have done for years. I don't want any more now and I'm actively getting rid of some

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Jan-23 22:21:37

Obviously not real ones

I used to collect Italian pottery but after DH died it wasn't the same and I've boxed it all up for DD to inherit.

I've got a collection of Biba make up and memorabilia that I've found on EBay/ I've also got some vintage Julip horses if anyone horsey remembers them.

cd's ,I know they are not fashionable but I still have and buy vinyl too.I much prefer taking an album from the shelf and reading the cover notes to listening to streamed music. The quality is better soundwise too on our system.
I have over 2500 CD's and around a thousand vinyl albums.I still buy new ones regularly
I would challenge you to find them though they are very well hidden as I like the house clutter free but easily to hand for use

I gave my only Julip horse to my horse mad granddaughter along with the stable. It was quite a wrench to part with it. As for collecting it’s more a case of what don’t I collect. Ladybird books, shards of pottery, sea glass. Old costume jewellery which I find more beautiful that any priceless diamonds.

I don't really have a collection, but my go-to purchase if I am travelling is local pottery vases or bowls. I have quite a few, but not so many as to be excessive.

Well, according to me, anyway. If you asked my DH he might roll his eyes.

Rubbish. I collect rubbish. Or maybe it is just that I can't get rid of it. I know I have too much of it. I do so envy tidy people.

Pebbles, small rocks picked up while visiting different places just a little reminder of happy times.

dragonfly46 Sat 28-Jan-23 07:37:47

I can honestly say I don’t collect anything and I love getting rid of things. My DH is a hoarder and cannot get rid of anything.

Nothing - like @dragonfly46 I’m a shedder, not a collector.

I used to collect bow brooches and powder compacts. All bought very cheaply. I sold most of them a couple of years ago and was very surprised at their value.
NanKate are you reading Everything is Beautiful?

TillyTrotter Sat 28-Jan-23 08:35:37

obviously not real ones Grandmabatty 🤣🤣 🐘

Babushka wooden dolls. I loved them from when I was about 7 and a friend was given one. It was beautifully painted and had 7 Russian ladies stacked inside each other.

I have 2 dozen or more now.

Plastic boxes, you know the ones that fill the sleves after christmas, I thunk, ohh that will come in useful. So yes I have lots! of empty plastic boxes in various sizes.

Also empty cardboard boxes, like when you buy a new item and it comes in a box. I think, I best keep the box in case I have to take it back or sell the item hmm (I do flatten the boxes first)

Rubber ducks! I bought a few to use for an Easter Hunt as dgd wasn’t, then, keen on chocolate. Since then people have bought me the odd novelty one when they’ve been away and I’ve bought some as mementos and I now have a collection on the bathroom windowsill.

Fleurpepper Sat 28-Jan-23 08:53:55

Nothing.

I used to collect pens.
When people went abroad and wanted to bring me back something, I would say a pen please.
I figured they were easy to find and cheap and useful.

It's spiders and their webs here. Every time I turn around there's another one, they're so quick!
I tell the children we're a spider sanctuary 🕸️🕷️
