Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but looks dry out here in brackley this morning.
Today , unsure ether to stay in or go out as the air is still chilly over a long period with my condition .
Mind you I have a bag of butter mints with me to suck on just to take things of my mind .
Take Care,
Mick

Scapal I used to stay overnight up the road in the QM union.
Three of us shared a single room for less than £1.
Money was tight! As was the single bed!

Just popped back to wish a very Happy Anniversary to Mr and Mrs Sar! 🥂💐❤️

Mardoll when you mentioned the Pond hotel it took me right back to being a student. Stayed in Gibson Hall just of Great Western Road when at the ”Dough school” and then Jordanhill. We all went to the Pond for our last night before leaving teacher training in 1973. Where did these 50 years go!!!!

Surely that is good news isn't it kitty as you lost so much when you were ill?

kittylester Sat 28-Jan-23 11:07:15

Beat you gg, I've put on 4lbs! I'm now 2lb over my target weight.

Marydoll Sat 28-Jan-23 10:42:02

dragonfly, we are not talking about £20 a day here. Hundreds of pounds a day!
BG agreed the readings were excessively high.

They had been trying for years to install a gas smart meter, but there were always problems, and they never worked, so they gave up. That's what we cannot understand, how in the last few months are there are suddenly smart meter readings. readings.

Good morning everyone. It’s dull and drizzly here, 5°C at the moment. Yesterday’s hospital visit went well, today I am off to the hairdresser then clearing and re-arranging the kitchen worktops later. I have ordered a new Panasonic combi microwave with grill and oven. The current microwave is a very basic one and very old.

Have a good day all 🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from East London , I’m really bad at this each morning. I get up and fiddle around, before I know it it 10.00 and there are so many posts to read I forget who is who ! GM I hope you get a firm buyer today 🤞. Maw beautiful drawings , I may well head up there next week . I was going to a gallery tomorrow but I’ve got an invite for dinner at DS . Usually they have DiL’s father also widowed and struggling, every Sunday but he came last night to watch Arsenal ( oh dear!) with them . It will be nice to spend a bit of time with them instead of the usual brief pop in -not complaining though , I know how lucky I am . My SiL has just had surgery for breast cancer and both her children are “too busy” to help out . Today a group of us are having a girls lunch to celebrate my longtime friend’s birthday. She has had a very stressful year which is still ongoing bless her.

Happy Anniversary Sar I cannot remember our 4th Anniversary!

I cannot understand how they could have installed a smart meter without you knowing Marydoll. When they fitted ours they had to have access to the house to turn the electricity off. We have a little meter on the side in the kitchen and it is horrendous what our readings are. Some of them are £20 a day! I am hoping it balances out when the heating goes off.

Urmstongran Sat 28-Jan-23 10:21:34

Ah but you’ve not been well this week “GG13* so cut yourself some slack. Migraines are horrid things.

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 28-Jan-23 10:14:10

Good morning all from sunny and frosty Harrogate
Fingers crossed for your 2nd viewing GrandMattie
Happy Anniversary Sar.
All the talk of exhibitions makes me thirsty for one - which one shall I go to? We do have a nice little gallery in Harrogate
Glad you are taking it easy Marydoll
Welcome Nonnadiana I can’t advise on cats - never had one.
Yesterday had a lovely meal with DH, DDs, DGD and DGS. Think DGD has ADHD, she never keeps still.
Have the best day possible folks

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Wyllow is spot on with our South Yorkshire weather, and I am very late this morning. I am coming down with a cold so not in a hurry to get up. DD came over yesterday and we had lunch and went shopping. My nephew called in on a break from work to tell us about the latest additions to the family tree. It was a very pleasant way to spend an hour. He told us that he and his wife were having their new grandson for an overnight stay and he was very nervous (fortunately his wife isn’t!). Maw that lovely drawing reminded me of how tiny and vulnerable the baby was just four short months ago. I too would have loved to see that exhibition. The last major exhibition I went to was Francis Bacon.
My son rang to say he and DiL were coming down on Sunday to take me out to lunch. The way I feel at the moment, I’m not sure I want to go, but I have some documents I want him to look over so I need him to come down anyway.
Have the best day you can, folks.

It was indeed 4 German women artists, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Käthe Kollwitz, Gabriele Münter and Marianne Werefkin but for me the highlight was the wonderful Käthe Kollwitz and her tender but often tragic images of mothers and their children.
I was moved beyond belief by her Pietà in the Neue Wache in Berlin when I first saw it years ago and felt secretly yesterday that she should have had a whole exhibition to herself.
This is one beautiful depiction of a mother and her very tiny baby

Oh my goodness that is so evocative of a new mothers feelings I think.

Was it done post WW1? I get the feeling that is an influence.

harrigran Sat 28-Jan-23 09:42:41

Good morning from a dry NE where it is 3 degrees.
Had a lovely lunch out with friend yesterday at our favourite restaurant, never seen the place so full which is encouraging.
Sister and BIL coming this afternoon also DS and family except for GD1 who must get on with her art for college deadline.
My elder sister is at Newcastle airport on her way home to Germany, she has been here for six weeks. Just had a message to say she has assisted passage and is through security, sitting in a wheelchair drinking coffee. Didn't get a taxi, her cleaning lady took her to the airport, gosh above and beyond springs to mind.
Have a good day all.

Good morning from Glasgow, currently 4deg. but the sun is shining and the daffodils I specifically placed in our bedroom are a joy to see, opened up this morning. It almost feels like spring…..indoors anyway.

A warm welcome nonnadiana. Re. feeding your cat, I have a dish with some dried cat food, a dish with some wet, in jelly/in gravy depending to your cat’s taste and another with fresh water which is needed for cats, especially if they eat dry food. Have you given your cat a name yet?
What a lovely gift of what sounds like a perfect evening Stilllearning.
A beautiful drawing Maw. It just hit the spot for me.

A chance to do a bit of pottering in the garden and some craft work once I have dealt with a few phone calls to make is a welcome thought. Just a bit of sunshine makes such a difference to my get up and go.

Hoping a good day is ahead for all.

Stilllearning Sat 28-Jan-23 09:35:57

Marydoll, good luck with Scottish Gas. I had a smart meter installed recently but received an email last week asking for meter readings. After waiting for 50 minutes on the phone I gave up and started to ‘chat’ with ‘Donna’
I explained I could no longer access my meter due to ‘infirmity’ (it seemed easier than physical contortions)
Donna asked did I have a friend or relative that could do it for me. I replied ‘no’ that was why I got a smart meter🙃
Long gap when I thought perhaps she was calling the Samaritans for me, then a reply saying an engineer would come and read my meter but she couldn’t say when.
Fine, I checked my account and it was £50 in credit.
This morning I got an email saying I was £250 in debit but I couldn’t make any changes to my direct debit because it was due to be paid within the next couple of days. It isn’t.
The £250 figure may well be correct but I honestly have no idea what to do now and I don’t trust Scottish Gas’ figures at the moment.
They moved onto a new payment system a few months ago and it’s been hopeless ever since.
All of this is the electricity bill, the gas bill has not been mentioned and they have always come at the same time

Taichinan Sat 28-Jan-23 09:35:03

Good morning all. It's dreich and miserable on the Angus coast today, but supposed to brighten up a bit later. I hope so! All that talk of daffodils today is very cheering though. As my garden will resemble Wordsworth's host in a couple of months' time I don't buy them ahead of that, but I do love them.
Stay warm and cosy today Mick.
I hope the second viewing goes well grandmattie - they certainly have all the information!
And hello and welcome to Nonnadiane - enjoy your little kitten.
As usual when I read through the thread before posting I forget who has said what, so I'm sorry for not mentioning everybody by name. That visit to Central London art galleries must have been fascinating and thank you for the photos. What talent!
Happy 4th anniversary to the Sars - enjoy the fizz. And glad the scaffolding is going up for the roofwork. Enjoy the SYO Brook.
It's a nothing day here but as usual I bask in the reflected glory of the achievements of grandchildren - Dancing GD has her unconditional acceptance for next year's Hons degree course and DGD3 ditto to one of the Colleges she applied to after her successful interview there the other day. She wants a career in something sports orientated - but hasn't decided exactly what yet.
So off I shall now go to do I'm not sure what - but I shall endeavour to enjoy it while looking forward to the Tai Chi Chinese New Year Banquet tomorrow evening.
Have a pleasant day everyone x

SunshineSally Sat 28-Jan-23 09:33:13

Urms well done on your continued weight loss 👏👏x

SunshineSally Sat 28-Jan-23 09:31:48

Happy Anniversary Sar53 - enjoy your special day 🥳

SunshineSally Sat 28-Jan-23 09:30:16

Good morning everyone from an as JaxJacky said an overcast south Hants. JaxJacky I hope your DH is okay 🙏. It’s so hard getting a GP appointment these days - they are like gold dust here!
grandMattie I so hope your 2nd viewing goes well.
Our plans for today have changed as DH is still poorly so an easy day today in the hope that he’s better for our meal and catch-up with friends tomorrow.
Problems with my Mini - there’s an SOS system failure on it which meant that it kept calling the Mini emergency services every 30 seconds whilst driving!! You only get 5 seconds to cancel the call! So the drive to the garage was stressful to say the least! And you cannot disable it. Am keeping everything crossed it’s not going to be an expensive fix 🤞🤞. Ended up leaving it there and getting a taxi home.
Have the best day you can - thinking of those that are poorly 🦩🦩.
A hug 🤗 and 🌻 for you all x
