Repair Shop Emotions.

Did anyone watch the Repair Shop on tv today? That programme can be so emotional - the way that people can be attached to objects which they’ve had for years, hold precious memories and now in a state of disrepair. Today a man took in a miniature boat he used to
sail with his brother on boating lakes in Skegness. His brother died, aged 14. Will, one or the repair shop repairers (along with a few helpers) brought it back to life. The man was so emotional about what a good renovation had been done that Will could barely speak either. Will’s eyes became visibly watery and he tried to contain himself and then he had to stop what he was saying. Does anyone else find it really touching when a man gets a big choked up? I found it very moving. Will is absolutely blooming drop dead gorgeous anyway and I found this little scene very touching. I don’t normally like to see a man cry though so why did I feel like this today? Is it because he’s gorgeous. What a shallow person I must be!

Oh yes I too watch the repair shop, my dad watches it so we have something to chat about when I go over.

The boat was lovely, some people do get really emotional others seem not to.

There have been some lovely sentimental items on.

I would love! to work in that barn repairing much loved items.

I like the programme too (even though they didn’t respond to my request to repair something dear to me).
When I applied they seemed to want the saddest cases and though my back story is very sad but interesting too I clearly should have over emphasised all the historical trauma. I might try again....
As an aside some of the items left in sheds or lofts in terrible state for years cannot be the loved family treasures we are told they are though no one can doubt the pleasure when the repair is complete .

All the items have an emotional and sentimental meanings for the owners, that's what makes the programme.

The people who do the repairs are so skilled and so patient. I watch the Teddy Ladies carefully as I need to restore my old Ted.

Yes, I agree about Will, I had him earmarked for a SIL but then he got married.

Yes my item was a doll with a porcelain face sent by my grandma from behind the iron curtain. She had been a refugee after losing her home and all belongings at the end of the war.
The dolls was amd still is beautifully dressed but her face was badly smashed when it arrived despite being carefully boxed. I actually remember opening it and being so sad. It was the only gift I had from her, we never could meet and she died soon after. I could say more about the story but Was disappointed to have heard nothing from the programme.
Will was my favourite too, I havnt seen him lately so wondered if he had left.

Oh yes, please try again, that sounds like a wonderful story silverlining48.

It would be lovely to see the doll how she was meant to be.

It would indeed callistemon. Will think about it.

It is meant to be emotional because most of the objects are not of significant material value but emotional value to their owners.
If it’s not it won’t get featured, but they do overdo it quite often

Oh yes, you must do Silver
I’m sure that those lovely pink ladies could do wonders with it.

My favourite is Steve 😍

The musical instrument chap is the absolute, total and utter spitting image of MrC’s nephew. It’s uncanny

I like all of them, apart from the insufferable Jay.

silverlining48 They would probably just replace the head, there is a number on the back which will be the style, these are often for sale in auctions, on eBay and on Etsy.

Jay doesn’t seem to do much apart from meeting and greeting but he has done good given his back story.

silverlining48 Tue 31-Jan-23 11:13:57

Will have a look thanks Theexwife

He's mine, FannyC
He used to be a fireman ......... 😍

I quite like Jay, he's a good link despite his clichés, and he gets rather emotional too.

The ceramics repairer, Kirsten, could mend it carefully - that would be interesting.
