Cold at night, any recommendations?

How about an electric radiator on a low setting? Should be cheaper than central heating on in whole house.

Octopus energy were giving out free electric blankets a while ago, you didn't have to be a with that company to get one but there was a limited amount but might be worth a look. I am trying to post a link but it isn't working but just Google "Octopus energy free electric blanket " it takes you to it.

I can’t do without bedsocks until I kick them off during the night. I’m prone to chilblains and always suffer with feeling cold too.
I agree with sleeping between two duvets and an electric blanket.

These are both great ideas and I like the sustainability of an 18 degree eco heater - that means that the heat only comes on when it is cold enough which makes sense. Plus I have some wool blankets from my mum which I haven't known what to do with, so that's a great idea. Thanks!

I think I must be odd. I’m sleeping under a 4.5 tog duvet that I have to kick off during the night, in a t shirt nightdress with an open window. No heating though.

I miss DH! He was permanently hot and I warmed my feet on him.
I now have hot water bottles, bed socks and I've just bought a body heat reflecting mattress topper and. I sometimes have to throw one of my duvets off in the night.
I own an electric blanket but either there's something wrong with it or it takes ages to get warm.
But bed is still the warmest place in the house.
Can't wait for warmer weather.

The down side is that I really suffer during hot weather and all rooms have fans etc to help me keep cool. I rarely go out in July & August since we have been having heatwaves.

I luuurve hot weather even tuck down under my duvet in the summer never get hot funny isn’t it how different we all are

I have a heated throw over my 10.5 tog duck feather duvet, with a fleece throw over the top. It costs a few pence to run, I switch it on an hour before I go to bed and whilst I have left it on all night, I’ll wake at 03.00 feeling too hot. I prefer to set the timer so it switches off an hour after I’ve gone to bed, if I wake up for the bathroom and get cold it can go on again for another hour.

I sleep in a t-shirt, with a flannelette duvet cover and two wool blankets underneath a cotton bottom sheet. Never have heating on in the bedroom, I like a warm bed in a cool room.

Before getting the heated throw I used two hot water bottles.

Electric blanket on the mattress under the sheet, it’s dual control, so only my side goes on as MrJ doesn’t like it. Heating goes off at 10, small window open.

I have noticed that thin people feel the cold more and those with more padding feel the heat more
Not that my observation helps anyone, sorry.

My husband has lost six stones in weight since July 2021.
For the first time ever he has felt the cold this winter and has bought himself some cosy pyjamas 😊

Someone below mentions ‘padding’ and yes, I am rather. But my theory is the warmer you keep yourself, the more heat you need. We never have the upstairs radiators on, and sleep with a casement window wide open (unless it’s howling a gale). I’m not in our bed presently as I have a surgical boot on, but my husband said he woke up at 4 last night as he was too hot - with just a sheet and thinnish quilted cover on. I would say though that if our feet get cold, we do feel chilled.

Buy an oodie they are super warm. I also have an electric water bottle you heat it up and it stays hot for about 9 hours.

I have an under electric blanket, two outside walls, and I am elderly and disabled, yet, I put my blanket on, quite a low setting, when my arthritis starts.. I am also in and out of bed every couple of hours or so... so really feel for anyone who is cold in bed.

Bought myself a Brentford's Teddy Fleece duvet cover and pillowcases earlier this year - best thing ever!
I've bought another one since then, so that I can always have one on my bed in the winter. I've slept really well, as I haven't been woken by cold draughts around my neck. They're on special offer on Amazon at the moment - so nip over and order one asap... 😃

Electric blanket. Higher setting to warm up the bed half an hour in advance; turn it down to lower/lowest setting overnight. They cost very little to run and aren't expensive when available at Lidl or Aldi, or online (about £25 for a single). They are really safe these days, as well as machine washable. Well worth investing if you can.

I find brushed cotton bedding is considerably warmer. I put the electric blanket on for an hour before I go to bed. I have a lightweight duvet but layer up thin cotton throws on top of the bed and add or take away as necessary.
