House No. 13 - would it bother you?

Ours is no. 13, and I hardly ever give it a thought, but a guest remarked on it the other day.

When we bought it, in 1977, neither dh nor I even gave it a thought, and it’s been a happy house for us.

Would it put you off, or do you know anyone who wouldn’t touch it? We’re not thinking of selling (I hope that’ll only happen after we’re gone) but I’ve been wondering whether it’ll eventually reduce the price a bit, or make it harder to sell.

I used to live on the 13th floor, never bothered me

It would not bother me. I was born on 13th, so no, it would not be an issue......

My husband was born on Friday the 13th so 13 is a lucky number for me

Our house should be 13 but the house builders (it was a new build) labelled it as no 15. I'm not bothered about it one way or the other!

When the row of houses where I live was built they left out no.13 . So it goes 9,11,15,17 on my side of the road

I never used to be particularly superstitious but years ago, when I was a registered childminder, I had just started looking after two little children. Only had them a week, when their father literally dropped down dead at work - he just died there and then, not at the hospital. He was only 29 years old and it was Friday 13th - so now I am wary of that date.

I'm not sure about house no 13. It has never cropped up in my life so I don't know what I'd think.

Doesn’t that superstition come from the Last Supper when Jesus was betrayed by Judas, the 13th apostle at the table? What that has to do with house numbers I’m not sure.

There is no No 13 in my road. The architect/builder decided against it presumably, so maybe one of them was superstitious.

Wouldn’t bother me either.

Our first house, after two years in a tiny flat, was number 13. We were very happy there and our children were born in the nearby maternity hospital. We didn't even think about it possibly being unlucky.

My parents, two brothers and me all born 13th and my two daughters born 26th (double 13!) We've not had particularly happy lives.

I am not in the least superstitious. I was born and lived in a number 13 for 25 years, lived in a number 13, a number 12 and a number 1 now I'm in a number 14. It was not a choice it was how it was. Why would a house number make any difference to anything apart from a address.

My OH 's birthday was Friday 13th. I have had him nearly 60 years ,so can't be all that bad.
Some relations whose father built the street had their house numbered with an A to be able to miss out 13.

grandMattie Sat 11-Feb-23 11:49:16

Not in the least, but late DH wouldn't contemplate it even if it was perfect.

Serendipity22 Sat 11-Feb-23 11:45:27

Wouldn't bother me whatsoever. To me its just a number... 😃

StoneofDestiny Sat 11-Feb-23 11:45:25

Wouldn’t bother me at all - silly superstition. Think how many people who are born on the 13th !

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 11-Feb-23 11:37:54

When we moved to this house 7 years ago, next door lived a very active 92 year old lady - at number 13. She moved to be nearer her son. A lovely family of 4 moved in, extended the house and seem very happy there. No concerns there!

Kandinsky Sat 11-Feb-23 11:24:43

It would bother me yes.
I wouldn’t buy a number 13 house.

yogitree Sat 11-Feb-23 11:23:20

It would not bother me at all. I was married on Friday 13th, flew on my 13th flight and many good things followed on 13th of months over the years!

Patsytaylor Sat 11-Feb-23 11:14:58

We live at number 13 (bungalow) and have had nothing but bad luck. The latest being burst pipes just before Christmas while we were away. Thousands of pounds of damage. We are waiting for lounge and kitchen ceilings to be replaced, the latter found to contain asbestos.

Ffion63 Sat 11-Feb-23 11:11:20

It wouldn’t bother me at all. I’m not really superstitious that way. We were allocated room 911 when we went to Washington. The only thing I felt was sad thinking about what we think of when 911 is mentioned. I can understand Americans not wanting to stay in it though.
My stepmother would never have 13 sat at the table. She always set an extra place.

argymargy Fri 10-Feb-23 15:02:58

Without the Last Supper there would have been no resurrection. I think of Friday 13th as a lucky day.

Blencathra Fri 10-Feb-23 15:02:51

No.

pascal30 Fri 10-Feb-23 15:02:49

definitely not

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 10-Feb-23 14:59:52

It wouldn’t worry me. Younger son’s birthday is the 13th
