So many wonderful songs, but my favourite has to be "Any Day Now".

I loved the Walker Brothers Make it Easy on Yourself.

Chardy Thu 09-Feb-23 20:29:09

I love Make it Easy in Yourself, but I had no idea it was Bacharach & David. I was going to say I Say A Little Prayer

Long After Tonight Is All Over...a Northern Soul anthem!

chocolatepudding Fri 10-Feb-23 08:57:02

This evening on bbc4 at 8pm a programme featuring Bacharach and David's songs

Glorianny Fri 10-Feb-23 10:22:00

Oh gosh so many great songs. Dionne Warwick singing "Walk on By" not necessarily his best song but one which so suited a broken teenage heart. RIP Burt

Close to you is my favourite - sung by the fabulous Karen Carpenter.

All the above and more. He was a class act.

"What do you get when you fall in love?
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia and when you do he'll never phone ya....."

Brilliant!

I am enjoying watching BBC TV 4 featuring songs but it sad that a lot of the singers we enjoyed dancing to have also died.

Make it easy on yourself. Oddly it was on the radio last week and I’ve been singing it since.

Yes, what a team, Burt the composer and Hal David the lyricist.

Dusty singinging 24 Hours from Tulsa:
"I hope you'll remember it. I hope I remember it too!"

Of course we do, and I remember her saying that, too.

mokryna Fri 10-Feb-23 20:51:21

I meant in the first half of the program dealing with the 60s.

RIP Burt Bacharach - your music is phenomenal! ♥️

IrishDancing Fri 10-Feb-23 21:29:49

Every song mentioned - I couldn’t pick a favourite, love them all. Thankyou OP for starting this thread.
RIP

Thank you, Mokryna, I'm watching on catch up.
My favourite song is This Guy's in love with you. I'd never heard Sammy Davis Junior's version, only Herb Albert's.
Such wonderful, melodic songs. We know all the words and can sing along. What talented performers, many no longer with us.
Burt Baccarach R.I.P.

Weren’t we lucky to have grown up with this fabulous music compared with what is around these days?

I don’t think there is a single Burt Bacharach composition I don’t love. So hard to pick a favourite but Alfie is certainly up there.
I think Cilla had to have about thirty attempts when she was recording that song, before Burt was satisfied!
He was after perfection.

Ooooooh another programme this evening Saturday bbc2 at 10pm BB his life in music includes an interview with him and more recent singers singing his songs

Too difficult to single out one or a few as my favourite, so I decided to try and think of any I was not particularly keen on, but nope that’s impossible as well.

Grannmarie Sat 11-Feb-23 09:55:29

This morning's Sounds of the Sixties with Tony Blackburn is playing lots of BB songs, I've got it on BBC Sounds just now cos it's on too early for me at 6am.

I've got one! It must be the only one though. I adored them all as much as anyone else, but I never liked the words for Wishin' and Hopin' and they're not very good advice for a young teenage girl which I was at the time.

Show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinkin' and a-prayin', wishin' and a-hopin'
'Cause wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' his kisses will start
That won't get you into his heart
So if you're thinkin' of how great true love is
All you gotta do is hold him, and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it
And after you do, you will be his

"Wives And Lovers" is another one that hasn't aged well:
"Comb your hair, fix your makeup, soon he will open the door,
Don't think because there's a ring on your finger, you needn't try any more...
Wives should always be lovers too,
Run to his arms the moment he come home to you...." !!!

I heard Sammy Davis Jnr slaughtering a song recently, one that I loved, maybe it was that one I'm not sure. Whatever it was, he jazzed it up with a beat and made it very 'catchy' and I hated it. I really don't like his style.
