Thank you Aldom, he is such a lovely man and I just feel so sad for the whole family. I dropped the card off, but didn't call in as I didn't really want to intrude.

dustyangel Fri 10-Feb-23 10:50:21

Good morning everyone from a grey, cloudy Algarve. It’s 11° but I had to use a weather app to tell me as Alexa is on strike. She keeps telling me to go the other site.🤷‍♀️

We had a computer chap in yesterday and since then although my iPad has been working it is working differently. It’s obviously been talking to DH’s Mac which is what the young man was actually working on. We’ll try a couple of things before calling them out again.

My blood test has had to be postponed until Monday as we won’t have the car back until later. I might as well have another cuppa!

Aldom Fri 10-Feb-23 10:03:18

BlueSapphire I'm so deeply sorry to hear about the family who has lost their wife /mother. My heart goes out to them. flowers

Taichinan Fri 10-Feb-23 09:56:25

A belated good morning Mick and all from a grey damp Angus coast. It's not overly cold and the sun is forecast to return tomorrow, so I'll not complain.
After a long series of "bad nights" and a busy day yesterday I had an excellent, and long, night's sleep last night. My friend yesterday just wanted to talk about her problems - and I do sympathise, but ....- and reminisce about her younger days, so it was a bit of a trial. I think she just wanted to speak her thoughts out loud. I find it a bit frightening as she's not all that much older than I am ...... Anyway, I took her to a lovely little cafe in a village near the glens where it is all homely good cooking, and not a chip in sight. My late partner and I used to go there often. It's owned by a co-operative of farmers' wives, and all the produce and ingredients for the meals comes in fresh each morning - definitely healthy eating. My friend loved it, so hopefully she felt a bit better about everything when we got home.
Sorry so many on here are having hard times, one way or another. I've been called for jury service twice. The first time I went but my hearing was beginning to fail even then, so at the next call I just replied that I was deaf and that was that! I didn't have to prove it - or not that I heard anyway 😁
Grandmattie just sit back now, and rest. This is the universe's way of allowing your body to prepare for another very busy and difficult time ahead when you move to Bristol. For such a busy lady, I know that's difficult, but .....
I hope the bad backs gradually get back to normal, the chicken poxed dgc's can be soothed, pharmacists come up with the goods and all else goes smoothly.
Enjoy your days x

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 10-Feb-23 09:50:01

Good Morning all from cloudy but dry Harrogate
For you GrandMattie I prescribe sitting in a comfy armchair, listening to your favourite uplifting music and closing your eyes! It's what your body is crying out for and you have to obey!
Love the letter for your DGD, a very clever teacher. My DD came home from school one day (when she was 10) and complained the teacher was always picking on her. I knew her teacher so asked him about it. He agreed he picked on her, she always gave what was asked of her in school, but he knew she could do much more. I told DD, the look she gave me told me she'd been sussed!
I'm sorry things are difficult for you Marydoll hope they are sorted soon.
Hopefully going out for a run in the car after a cup of coffee, I've a feeling we will end up a Lidl - DH likes to go there!
Have the best day possible folks!

mamaa Fri 10-Feb-23 09:30:19

Morning, I read this thread often but don't post much. Today however, just wanted to add my two penn'orth regarding jury duty.

Marydoll I too wrote a letter to be excused jury service, and I hope you get your's sorted soon, you can do without all this unnecessary bureaucracy causing extra stress .
In it I explained that I couldn't attend as I was the sole carer for my first child as his father was away with the Forces. I was a stay at home Mum then and as our child was not yet at school and my parents/in laws were all working during the day, there was no caregiver available. I too was excused.

Hope all have a good day as is possible, I'm off to the hairdressers shortly- I am slowly morphing into my Mum-she went once a week and it was the highlight around which all other events were planned-its getting a bit like that here! grin

Liberty Fri 10-Feb-23 09:26:44

Lulusugust….DH often says he wishes our GP surgery was as efficient as the vets in answering the phone, giving appts when you want them and dispensing medication. But then they don’t get an automatic payment for having you on their list. They have to provide a very good service or you’ll go elsewhere( and I say this with DD and SiLs’ involved in the medical world but not in our part of the UK.

harrigran Fri 10-Feb-23 09:08:41

Good morning from a dry NE where it is 8 degrees and forecast to reach 11.
Bad night, was in bed by 10.45 but didn't fall asleep until about 4am.
Must try and do some housework today as tomorrow the family will be here and the kitchen ends up like a cafeteria.
Hope you get sorted at the GP Marydoll, luckily I was never called for jury service.
Have a good day everybody.

cornergran Fri 10-Feb-23 09:00:04

Fish and chip lunch for us urms I’ll be baking sausage rolls to freeze ready for a birthday at the end of the month. One or two may escape the freezer for this evening. Healthy eating plan tomorrow, maybe. grin.

EkwaNimitee Fri 10-Feb-23 08:58:20

Good morning Mick and everyone from cloudy grey Carlisle where it is currently trying to brighten up.
I woke early with a bit of a migraine and was awake for ages. That and news of the ambulance strike persuaded me to postpone my trip out again so I will just potter about with various little jobs that need doing. And hope my head and the weather allow a bit of gardening later on.

Love that teacher, Ashcombe ! A sense of humour and a talent with words...

Have the best possible day all

hollysteers Fri 10-Feb-23 08:58:14

Good morning Mick and all from a damp northwest coast.
Such an inspiring concert last night at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Rachmaninov Piano concerto 2,(which moves me so much) Mussorgsky Pictures from an Exhibition etc.
I tapped, or rather poked, the girl directly in front of me who was waving her camera about, recording it
“Well you needn’t look at me!” she retorted🙄
Pricey meal beforehand but the restaurant was handsome.
Off to art now then two bin bags to charity shop.
DS might come over later to carry on with a few jobs.
Hope you buck up soon grandMattie you have been through so much.

luluaugust Fri 10-Feb-23 08:57:13

Good morning all from a sunny W Kent. I have joined the bad back club, I reckon its the Winer and too much sitting around. I need to get the shopping done today, not sure if that will help or hinder. GS5 duty this afternoon, I am sure we will get some good stories.
Liberty I had a moment there when I read your DH had an appointment with the vet! although I think it probably isn't a bad idea.
gM take it gently.
Marydoll a friend's daughter got her out of Jury service by writing a letter saying her mother took frequent visits to the loo! I am sure you will be let off.
Best wishes to all

Marydoll Fri 10-Feb-23 08:56:54

Thanks Dragonfly, that makes me feel a bit better. I'm not my usual coping self at the moment.

dragonfly46 Fri 10-Feb-23 08:50:13

Marydoll when I was called up for Jury service I just enclosed one of the myriad of letters I had from my consultants. I have a large box full. I rang the Jury service first to check it was okay. They deferred it for a year but as I was having radiotherapy the following year they cancelled it altogether.

Liberty Fri 10-Feb-23 08:41:37

Good morning from a sunny north Suffolk. DH has an appointment with the vet soon and we are hoping our dog will be finally discharged. She ruptured her cruciate ligament in August and her exercise, which has had to be on the lead, has been very limited. She is now so anxious to run free and go where she wants to do and at her speed and not ours. Fingers crossed!

I’m meeting a friend for lunch in a very old pub in our nearest market town. I’m going to resist ‘loaded chips’ which I discovered recently when I had lunch there with another friend recently. She makes them for her GDs…..chips covered in cheese and veg chilli….delicious but probably very calorific. As we are having fish and chips this evening,I’ll limit myself to a sandwich and a glass of red wine.

Hope today is a good day for all.

Urmstongran Fri 10-Feb-23 08:36:54

No Matt he must be on leave.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester. It looks quite chilly out. No sunshine. Alexa tells me to expect a day of high cloud with a high of 9°C.

I have a routine NHS dental appointment at noon but no other plans.

What are we having for dinner tonight cornergran? Ha! 🤣
I was greedy last night as the liver and bacon with onion gravy was delicious. Small meals today for me.

Greyduster Fri 10-Feb-23 08:34:15

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. I don’t think we will see much of the South Yorkshire sun today, and it feels cold. I spent yesterday afternoon decorating a cake for GS’s 16th birthday, and will finish it off today. I ordered something to go on the top, but it doesn’t look as if it is going to come in time, so I shall have to improvise! We are eating out this evening so I will be staying at DDs overnight unless I can pluck up the courage to drive home in the dark on mostly country roads. I doubt she’ll let me though. We’ll see.
Have the best day you can folks.

GrannySomerset Fri 10-Feb-23 08:32:58

Yesterday included a haircut and getting laptop sorted out so satisfactory. I have to collect prescriptions and shop in the village, so nothing much today. We have a heavy frost and sunshine at the moment so it looks like another beautiful winter day.

Hope our poorly posters have a better day. It does feel like a long winter with spring still distant.

Grandmabatty Fri 10-Feb-23 08:32:23

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and yet again wet and windy. Ash a good teacher can make such a difference. Marydoll I'm sure your doctor will write the letter. What would happen if you were in hospital and didn't get the citation? Kalu I don't mind snakes but definitely the non poisonous kind.
Yesterday I talked myself out of going to art class. I did a spot of cleaning instead and ordered my garden rubbish permit. This is a new thing for our council. Although I don't have masses of weeds etc, I can fill the bin over a month or so.
Today I have a chiropodist appointment later but nothing else planned. I will need to go to Aldi at some point as I'm out of the basics. Have a good day all.

Gingster Fri 10-Feb-23 08:28:45

Good morning all 🥶. Oh when will it get warmer? They say the weekend 🤞.

I met my old school pal for coffee yesterday which was lovely. She has a few things wrong (heart, pernicious anaemia) but what a trooper. She doesn’t let anything hold her back. They’ve just bought a new camper van and hope to make good use of it this year. The loveliest person you could wish to meet.❤️

Today we’ll meet up with our Friday gang, sit round the fire and relate our news of the last week.

We must get up to our cottage by the sea. Haven’t been since before Christmas due to appointments and ‘doings’ this end.
We hoped to go next week but eldest DGD is coming back from Uni and we really want to see her, so we’ll hopefully go up the following week.

Take it easy GM you’ll need all your strength for the move, so rest while you can.

How annoying MD that you need to see the GP. They just have to look at your notes. Everything is so complicated these days. I just wrote a letter telling the reason I couldn’t do jury service and that was that!

Have a good day all .

Marydoll Fri 10-Feb-23 08:28:25

Grammaretto, I must speak personally with a GP and DH hates that kind of thing.

Grammaretto Fri 10-Feb-23 08:22:44

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
The wind, which blew the wheelie bin over yesterday, has somewhat subsided.

I am working this morning at the community store but I am very tired so may fall asleep on the job
I was dancing last night.

Marydoll can't DH phone the surgery on your behalf?

The teacher's letter made me smile Ash

The Australian snake did not Kalu
shock

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Feb-23 08:18:52

Morning all

We have a blue sky with wispy clouds, still rather chilly I think.

I had a disturbed night, with troubling dreams and thoughts due in part to finally getting round to watching Happy Valley. We are only on the first series, more violent than I imagined and the valley is definitely not happy!

I am off to the gym first thing (two classes, one 30minute PiYo followed by an hour of general exercise/circuits). We pick up The Imp from pre-school at 12 noon, he will be starving and tired so the afternoon is rather led by him.

This evening we are going to our favourite Indian Restaurant with five other couples for a good old matter and catch up (the females see each other at the gym several times a week, we thought it was about time the men caught up as it’s been ages since they’ve all been together)

grandMattie I think your body is telling you to rest, you have had so much to deal with and much sadness in the last few years, p,ease be kind to yourself, rest, rest and rest.

(((Hugs))) to all in need

Keep lit of mischief folks 🙋‍♀️🦩

Beechnut Fri 10-Feb-23 08:14:04

Good morning everyone from Severnside. Another frosty start.

I have the weekly shop to do today. I won’t go out until it’s warmer and I know that the postman has been in the street as I am hoping my parcel will come today. If I remember I’ll also do my monthly admin. I did promise myself to get rid of some old paperwork this month and I’ve some other things to gather up to get rid of.

I’ll make another cuppa and go back to read your news 🌼🦩

Georgesgran Fri 10-Feb-23 08:09:58

Good morning from Durham. It’s very still, but supposed to be windy later.
I am mobile again, as I collected my new car yesterday - a little bittersweet, being my first ‘expensive decision’ without DH’s input. I did feel a little sad as I bid my old car goodbye - the end of an era, but the beginning of another.
Meeting a friend at a local garden centre this morning - she’s troubled by a long phone call from her almost estranged sister. Afterwards, I’m taking DD2’s dog home, then picking up DGS1 from school. He’s coming for a sleepover.
Best wishes to all. X
