BlueBelle so far as I can remember the story, he was beheaded by the Romans for secretly marrying Christian couples.
So I suppose thats the connection.

But why Valentine wasn’t he a priest who got sacrificed (killed) beheaded I believe

An interesting fact for St Valentines Day.
The heart shape (cordiform) is one of the 32 oldest symbols known.

Up to 40,000 years ago cave paintings around the world, especially Europe used these symbols, possibly as a proto language to convey information.

75% of the 32 symbols (including the cordiform) were used repeatedly in the cave paintings, and more paintings are being found all the time.

Isn't that lovely, the heart sign has been around for almost as long as us
