Today's Grauniad has an interview with Jane Goodall, who is definite one of mine.

Who are yours?

I think it’s quite difficult these days for someone in the public eye to hide their true personality (there are exceptions that seem to fool people but I’d better not name names). Which is why I like to think that I do actually know the people I admire more so than I would have done pre social media. Eg I really liked ( actually had a crush on)an author whose books I used to read). But, because of tweeting etc I’ve realised he’s not a very nice person by my ( political) standards. But maybe I’m fooling myself and being fooled.

She’s passed now, but my favourite person (and heroine) apart from family, is Sister Wendy, humble and inspiring.

I love and admire all my family, definitely some of my favourite humans. (do not always like them though🤣)

I have lots of acquaintances who I like and get on with along with a handful of close friends who I love and admire and it’s these that definitely come under my favourite human beings umbrella along with my family.

The personalities we see/hear of in the media only show their public persona, what they are like behind closed doors when not working we shall never truly know unless we know them personally.

Welbeck, I honestly can't remember what JG spoke about. I think we all switched off. But I do remember everyone being very disappointed as we had expected her to be so interesting.

Paul O'Grady, Tom Hardy and others who use their celebrity status to shout out about animal rescues centres and the importance of adopting.

BeneathTheHowlingStars Tue 21-Feb-23 14:28:09

Professor David Wilson. I could listen to him talk for hours and hours.

Yammy Tue 21-Feb-23 14:49:51

At the moment family and then Joe Biden for showing Putin what he thinks of him and is not to be intimidated.

semperfidelis Tue 21-Feb-23 14:50:25

Jeremy Paxman. Once a formidable journalist and interviewer, now fighting against Parkinsons Disease.

My favourite humans are definitely the everyday humans that I see going out of their way to be kind and considerate. I don’t tend to hold up famous people as favourites.

Amalegra Tue 21-Feb-23 15:08:37

My family of course (most of the time…!)
Sir Michael Palin-loved him since his Python days and his travel shows are now a delight!
Stephen Fry-not everyone’s cup of tea, I know, but his intellect amazes me (and he can be very funny!).
Professor Noel Fitzpatrick aka the Supervet. In his books as well as on TV he comes over as a hugely compassionate man who has dedicated his life to our animal friends.
Simon Seborg Montefiore- fantastic historian. His book are amazing as are his TV shows. His latest book ‘The World’ is a towering achievement.
Delia Smith and Mary Berry- thank heavens for their good advice and fool proof recipes over the years! Lovely ladies too.

desmond tutu was a favourite because he was a very good person with a sense of humour. Lovely to listen to. Zelenski for the chance to see a genuine honest leader who does his best for his people and puts a positive to go against the many appalling cheating untrustworthy selfserving negatives including Trump Putin, Johnston et all. Chris Packham in particular for the programmes he is doing on autism as well as the wild life work

President Zelensky for me too, the man has really stepped up to the plate and is to be admired for his leadership and bravery.
The Queen Consort for her support of domestic abuse survivors also her support for animal rescue.

In addition to David Attenborough, still with us (against all the odds) Michael Rosen. His book about his experience of Covid ‘Many different kinds of love’ is just so moving. I have lent my copy to someone and can’t remember who, unfortunately. His poem for the 60th anniversary of the NHS ‘These are the hands ‘ is superb. His voice seems the same as ever when he’s on the radio but the physical effects have been life-changing.
No longer with us I would name Sue Townsend.

Susieq62 Tue 21-Feb-23 17:03:13

Michael Palin was an excellent speaker
Nelson Mandela
Obama
My mum for her strength and fortitude which I need today !
My ex head of faculty who took no prisoners ! She was a lady “ with altitude” despite being small
The chair of our town council who is formidable but works her socks off
All my various friends and my feisty daughter who is a social worker to be proud of

Jodieb Tue 21-Feb-23 17:08:59
