Today's Grauniad has an interview with Jane Goodall, who is definite one of mine.

Who are yours?

Family first, but then thinking of famous people -

the three John/Jons- Snow, Simpson and Humphreys
Ranulph Fiennes
Robin Knox Johnson

I heard Ranulph Fiennes speak a few years ago - what an inspiration.
The programme John Simpson, Ranulph Fiennes and Robin Knox Johnson made where each took the others on an adventure in their specialist area is one of my favourite ever pieces of TV.

Many years ago my late Mum wrote to Ranulf Fiennes, he wrote back the most lovely hand written letter and she treasured it for the rest of my life. I always thought it was so nice of him.

Everyone I've ever looked up to or loved has let me down and I do it to myself. Favourite? The person I've yet to come across who doesn't discard me

Apart from family, my three good friends.

I always liked Desmond Tutu - he seemed such a jolly and kind character. Richard Osman. Yasmin Alibhai Brown. Of course I have never met them so they might not live up to expectations in real life. But, from what I have seen, I like them.

My son and brother, much loved but also liked!
Famous, I'd opt for Billy Connolly, I think he's dealing with his health condition with tremendous dignity, he's also the funniest person I've ever heard.

Simon Weston, who, despite his obvious difficulties, retains a leprechaun’s sense of humour. He does a huge amount of charity work, and will stop and talk to anybody who approaches him. When I worked in Cardiff I used to see him regularly.

My favourites are, all of my family especially my 9, yes 9 of my grandchildren whose ages range from 12 to 4 months and I love every inch of all of them. They are the most lovely and affectionate human beings ❤️ my pride and joy. Then the King & Queen, closely followed by William and Kate. Then my 2 favourite celebrities, Gok Wan and Rylan Clark. They are 2 of the loveliest people I have ever met.

Another vote for Billy Connelly. And Paul McCartney.

Family, friends.

Some people who have quietly in their own way helped me in life's journey.

Today it is footballer. There’s a sentence I never thought I’d use. What a truly wonderful person.

My favourite people my parents who did their best for all eight of us in hard times.
I loved my mum in law she loved and adored my little children when I married her son my lovely husband.
My son and daughter their partners and our beautiful granddaughters.
My few close friends who I have known for years since very young.
My beloved best friend who died was a work colleague. When I left that job to have my son we kept in touch for over thirty years. He reminded me of Billy Connelly who also had endured such terrible abuse from his father.
There are lots of well known people I admire for different reasons but I don’t know them personally.

Ranulph Fiennes. He has led an amazing life, his books are incredibly interesting and I for one think he definitely should have played James Bond!
