This lovely (in my opinion) would have been 80 today. The Beatles, and George especially, were such a big part of my life. They gave me something lovely and exciting in a troubled life.

All the girls in my class were mad about the Beatles and living near Heathrow airport we went up there to see them. On the old news reels it is our "Welcome Home Beatles" banner on the Queen's building.

We then proceeded to chase their car down the tunnel banging on the windows like mad things.

I also went to Lennon's house in Weybridge and I seem to remember he also had a property in Chelsea, but I may have that wrong.

How fabulous to be part of the newsreel footage and your banner too! Every time they have a programme about the Beatles they show the same bits of footage and I often wonder if any of those fans see themselves 50 years later.

This is George and Ringo being interviewed by Michael Aspel. Ringo is a natural comedian but George is also very funny too. They both play off each other and it's very entertaining.

Yes Chestnut I always look for myself on newsreels. I might have mentioned this before (several times) grin but some years ago, a friend was showing me a book she had bought for her husband about the '60s and there was a picture of me and a few others sitting behind The Beatles on stage. I have a copy blown up and framed by the front door. It's called attention seeking!

That's great! I'd love a picture like that. They did a show called Around the Beatles and I was (somewhere) there on the scaffolding! The first part is a lot of nonsense, but the show starts at 1 minute 46 seconds and there are some good shots of fans on the scaffolding further on. Most of it is in black and white unfortunately but it was 1964. There were several others performing including P J Proby and Cilla Black.

Here are details of the show from The Beatles Bible (which you must have studied Kate!) 😁

As a schoolgirl I went on a coach trip with the Youth Club to see The Beatles at Tooting (London) Granada. Roy Orbison was actually top of the bill and The Beatles were 2nd. I think it was 1963.

The girls all screamed like mad when The Beatles came on, but when Roy Orbison appeared, he just sat on a high stool and sang, and everyone was silent and listening.

That's a lovely clip * Chestnut*.
Sparklefizz. I saw the Beatles and Roy on that tour. We sneaked in but that's another story. By the time the show came here to Birmingham, poor Roy had been 'demoted' because of The Beatles rising popularity. When we saw them, Roy was second on the bill. I bet he was annoyed.

What amazing memories! I've visited this former home of George, (about 10 years ago now).

This was George Harrison's home. It's magnificent.

George was always my favourite Beatle. I lived fairly nearly to Friars Court. One day I drove over and parked outside. I stood on the roof of my car and took photos. ‘While my guitar gently weeps’ is probably my favourite song that George did.

The touring they did in 1963-1964 was just incredible. They went everywhere, all over the UK and the world!

I just stumbled across this, George and Olivia being interviewed by Wogan. You Tube is amazing.

Oh no! Poor Roy! That wasn't very diplomatic, was it?

Kate1949 Wed 01-Mar-23 11:57:56

Ahem GrammerGrandma, he is always (still) referred to here as 'your (my) George'.

I too loved the Beatles but Paul was my favourite - I hated Jane Asher as she was his girlfriend (and actually I'm still not very keen on her!)
Back in the 60's I lived near Teddington tv studios and when I heard that they were going to be on a tv programme coming from there my friend and I waited outside to, hopefully, see them. And we did! Well 3 of them .... and to this day I can't remember which 3!!

I was at Teddington studios that day too. My friend Pauline had been in the habit of going down there on Sunday evenings to see if we could get any spare seats going for Big Night Out which was filmed there and often had pop bands on. The security man used to let us in if there was room. On Beatles day, we were there almost all day and towards the end, 'our' security man came out, called Pauline and I over and took us in to watch the show. We were SO excited and thrilled!

Teddington Studios have been turned into riverside flats and houses [boo hoo!} another well known landmark gone. sad I lived nearby until recently.

He was always my favourite too

labradorlinda33 Wed 01-Mar-23 13:15:11

I am a Liverpool girl and loved The Beatles but George was always my favourite.
I went to see them twice at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool but didn't really listen to them. We just screamed the whole time grin....

missdeke Wed 01-Mar-23 13:37:49

John was my favourite, but George came a close second. Didn't like Paul and still don't, I think he is overrated musically.

Davida1968 Wed 01-Mar-23 14:10:34

Always my favourite Beatle, as well.
So sad that he died way too soon.
