I was also a massive Beatles fan, and still am. I grew up in California so was a little late to the game, but I was lucky enough to see them playing in Chicago in 1966 and when I've been to see Paul in concert (many times, and Ringo and his All Starr Band), it's always my claim to fame (speaking to people in the seats nearby) that I actually got to see a real Beatles concert. I loved the Michael Aspel clip Chestnut, thank you so much for that, and I was amazed to hear George say that he only did one real tour after the Beatles in 1974, and I was lucky enough to be at one of those shows! (I actually still have that ticket stub!) Thanks to all for sharing those memories. I've always had a sneaking suspicion that my move to England in 1999 was in part, influenced by the Beatles.

Sparklefizz. I saw the Beatles and Roy on that tour. We sneaked in but that's another story. By the time the show came here to Birmingham, poor Roy had been 'demoted' because of The Beatles rising popularity. When we saw them, Roy was second on the bill. I bet he was annoyed.

I recently watched a programme about Orbison and he referred to that tour. He said that the Beatles complained about the amount/length of the applause that he received and that it made them late going on.

I went to the Christmas Show that they performed at the Hammersmith Odeon (as was). It was very annoying because of all the screaming and I couldn't hear them sing at all.

They are one of the best bands, along with the Beach Boys.

Some great documentaries recently celebrating his life and work. It's often difficult to assess the true personality of the rich and famous, as it can be a case of "public face vs private face", but I think in George's case everyone who met him and got to know him seemed to think he was a genuinely "nice guy". Certainly my favourite Beatle, and although in the early days he was certainly in Lennon and McCartney's shadow, in latter years his true talent really shone through. His songs "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" remain amongst my firm favourites of all time.

Paperbackwriter One of my Beatles stories us similar to yours. A few of us skipped school when they were appearing at Birmingham Town Hall. Paul appeared on a coach. He was mobbed but took it in good part. We figured out we were standing underneath their dressing room window. A fan broke one of the panes of glass and we took it in turns to peer in at them. George came to the broken window to chat to us. I was in heaven.
We got talking to a roadie who left a door open for us and we sneaked in following the sound of Roy Orbison 's voice and saw The Beatles. I've been on local radio a couple of times talking about my Beatles escapades.

Oh the lovely memories. Never did see them. My Granny. Mother and all the family females liked the Beatles. It was the Best of Times and when George and John died, the Worst of Times.
I thought I saw him in Henley and convinced myself it was only someone who looked like him. I then heard he lived in Henley. So perhaps I did see him. RIP George x

The 2002 tribute Concert for George at the Royal Albert Hall was just wonderful. So many big stars giving it their all, the performances were incredible. Paul and Ringo were there, along with Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and of course Dani Harrison, looking like a young George. I have it all on DVD but they show it regularly now on Sky Arts (available to all on Freeview). There's a nice little clip here for anyone who hasn't seen it, although I don't think any George fans would have missed it.

I can understand that, it was like watching George reincarnated. It was great to see Ringo singing Photograph and then watch him banging away on the drums for the rest of the concert.

And of course Jeff Lynne is my great hero too. He is the fifth Beatle unless you count George Martin as the fifth, in which case he is the sixth. He worked on so many things with George, including his solo albums and also with the Traveling Wilburys. He also worked on the Beatles single Free as a Bird released 1995.

Just wondered what everyone's favourite George solo album is. Mine is definitely Cloud Nine from 1987. I used to listen to that endlessly in the car.

Oh yes Jeff Lynne. I loved that George was good friends with Joe Brown too.

John was my favourite. I preferred the Stones but still loved the Beatles. No band has ever lived up to them.

This is to Kate 49, if you have Amazon Prime Video, there is a recently loaded film on there called "Midas Man" which is a biopic of Brian Epstein, aka the 5th Beatle. Quite a good likeness in the actors playing the four members, it captures that era quite well.

Thank you. It was very thoughtful. If anyone really loves George's music, there is a wonderful band that regularly tours the country called The George Harrison Project. We (me and my long suffering not a Beatles fan) husband booked to see them last year, not knowing if they were a band, and exhibition, stage show etc. They are a band of superb musicians singing and playing George's music.
