So once you've been a GN member for a whilte, been around the block a few times, you'll have witnessed some feeding frenzies on controversial topics.

Some of those I remember from yester year are:

* Baby milk shortage (being bought up and sold overseas)

* Boris Johnson (at one point praised for his intelligence, yes, really!)

* Jeremy Corbyn (a real Marmite character)

*Anything to do with trans issues.

What are some of the topics that have caused metaphorical fisticuffs that you remember?

Some of these are before my time.
I feel I've missed out!

The trolls ain't what they used to be either. How I miss onesies, plimsoles and the like
Oh, me too, Grannybags
I thought that the other day on the thread about school uniforms and short skirts!
Perhaps onesies in school colours should be the compulsory new school uniforms!

Any TV programme that you might mention that you like; several join in and say how enjoyable it is, them along come a couple of posters saying how much they hate it but that they've never watched it. 😁

... or declare that it is "rubbish", whether they've watched or not!

I never understand this. There are programmes I would never willingly watch (Love Island, for one), but TV has to cater for all tastes so obviously we're not all going to be pleased with every production! I'd never insult people by telling them what they are viewing is 'rubbish'... people also watch programmes for different reasons - sometimes they just want something that isn't challenging or 'thought-provoking'... it can be quite cathartic too sometimes to watch a programme you wouldn't normally watch.

Very seldom poster - very long term lurker here.

Yes HRT/no HRT/menopause threads.

Maggiemaybe Tue 28-Feb-23 23:31:18

But before I do, I've just thought of another.

The rise and (mostly) fall of M & S.

Maggiemaybe Tue 28-Feb-23 23:28:46

Is there or is there not a GN clique?

(Retreats swiftly to bed before anyone tries to answer that one).

Maggiemaybe Tue 28-Feb-23 23:27:02

What is the best name for a grandmother?

Guaranteed that four posts in two posters will have declared that a Nan(na)(ny) is a goat, banana or (loftily, with nose firmly in air) a paid employee.

I bloody hate the dog poo threads.😡

HousePlantQueen Tue 28-Feb-23 22:06:14

Oh and cruise experts who tell you how awful they are. But have never been on one.

Reinstating a banned member. The more contentious the better. They're bl**dy saints by the time the fan club have finished their character references.

That made me lol Gagajo so true! 🤣🤣

Dreadful Neighbours. Who either park outside your house, talk to you, don't talk to you, have noisy sex, have awful children, whose gardens are overrun with cats and dog poo.

Oreo Tue 28-Feb-23 21:45:09

All forums have threads that are regular fixtures and pop up time and time again, but I like the sound of leggings, tattoos and sausages, all in one thread?

Irish joke on subject of funerals,
It was Patrick’s funeral and all were gathered in church, the priest said ‘Now as you all know, I’m new in this parish and didn’t even meet Patrick although am sure he was a grand fella, so I’d like you to take turns and call out something nice about the man you remember’.
Dead silence that went on for several minutes. ‘Ah come on now’ says the priest ‘just have a think, then call out’.
Still silence, then a voice at the back pipes up ‘His brother was worse!’ All nod in agreement then more silence.😆

I used to enjoy the Blogs forum which disappeared.

Ooh well.....some favourites which spring to mind....
The magical ability to spot someone on benefits filling their trolley with crap as they tap on their latest iPhone using their recently manicured nails.

The "do you live in the UK?" Comments which drove a few posters away.

Mortgage rates in the 1980s vs today's youngsters who spend all their money on takeaways. Apparently.

I can't think of anymore as my mind is overwhelmed with visions of dog poo, artificial grass and Kaarchers.....as it splashes up your wellies.....

Kate1949 Tue 28-Feb-23 21:30:03

I've never understood the 'bring back so and so' posts. I don't want to speak badly of someone I've never met but there was someone in here once who made some very hurtful, thoughtless comments. I could never understand the calls for her to return.

I’ve been to a couple of funerals where that happened at the meal afterward. My gob hung open listening to it.
