So once you've been a GN member for a whilte, been around the block a few times, you'll have witnessed some feeding frenzies on controversial topics.

Some of those I remember from yester year are:

* Baby milk shortage (being bought up and sold overseas)

* Boris Johnson (at one point praised for his intelligence, yes, really!)

* Jeremy Corbyn (a real Marmite character)

*Anything to do with trans issues.

What are some of the topics that have caused metaphorical fisticuffs that you remember?

There was a chap who left soon after I joined.
His posts really amused me.
He was always showing off about something : his wife; his car; his wife’s shoe collection etc; and, at one point, his cruet set (not a euphemism 🤭)

Did anyone mention handbags ?

Those threads certainly kept us busy!

Oh yes the aerodynamic ones!

I still miss poor, misunderstood Frank and his London pension.

Whilst there have been bun fights on certain issues on GN, they pale into insignificance compared to some of those on MN and the language is rather more colourful. Particularly riveting are Parking Wars, Guests who come to stay, especially uninvited, and then may never go shock Anything relating to "cheeky f***ery", Bridezilla, Hen away breaks and the costs involved, and of course, given the younger demographic although it has cropped up on here too "The Mother-i-law" or indeed mother for that matter who demand their time alone with overnight stays with newly arrived baby grandchild, always a shocker imo!

I did find a previous male poster's obsession with misandry a bit weird. which stalked the threads of GN apparently! and which he threatened to expose to the world, and indeed allegedly related much of it back to his colleagues which could be any time of the day and night as he worked around the clock keeping the nation supplied with all manner of essentials during the early days of Brexit.

You missed out loo brushes Terri!

I SO remember the misandry posts. Always having a pop at the lovely late Phoenix

Has anybody mentioned the great Toilet Roll Drought of 2020 yet?

Wearing pajamas outdoors. That seems to stir a bit of passion.

"Scottish independence?" I have long thought that there should be a dedicated topic for all things Scottish, where Scottish Grans could share and debate political and cultural issues to their heart's content without boring or annoying members who have no interest in, or knowledge of, the matters being discussed. I'm bearing in mind that many laws, benefits, educational matters are different in Scotland to those in RUK.
If we can have topics for Pets, pendants, Arts/Crafts, Why not one for the (1 assume around 10% of Gransnetters) who have a particular interest in Scottish matters?

Yes, missing the point entirely when the lovely phoenix related amusing tales about Mr P, whom she obviously loved dearly.

The irony was astonishing.

Why?

Scotland is part of the UK and we are entitled to an opinion.
We will only gain knowledge and insight if we read the threads.

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Mar-23 11:49:47

I think that there are far more than 10% of members who are Scottish.
It’s nothing scientific - just my casual observation

To move to big knickers, or not…usually a question which led to a plethora of knicker styles preferred by posters when replying but not really helping the OP decide🤣

FannyCornforth Wed 01-Mar-23 11:52:27

To move to big knickers?!
I wore big knickers when I was a size 8 (ah, those were the days…🥹)
50’s style ones. Very glam (and comfy!)

Indeed.

Knickers, pants, sloggis.

Where to purchase, what to spend, full bum coverage or not?

What about when someone mentions a sexual practice that most of us have'nt heard of. The brave ones dash off to google it and come back on to give their opinion of such gongs on. Others are a bit fearful of finding out what is involved and there is always someone who makes it their business to explain to all and sundry all about it (whether you want to know or not blush)

I think Phoenix dealt with him very well I do remember her saying to him on one occasion "oh just piss off!" grin sometimes a forthright approach is the only way!

And those that are shocked and outraged that anyone should ever talk about sex, that sacred and sacrosanct act, private to one man and one woman only, never to be discussed or mentioned anywhere else, ever.

Grannybags Wed 01-Mar-23 12:20:53

Please don’t mention pearl necklaces. The ones to be clutched or the other variety… grin

When my DH died, I was asked to tell all my favourite things about him and our long, loving marriage. I had loads to tell but also mentioned that our sex life (or "making love as we deemed it) was fabulous. Shock Horror! that I should mention such a thing, although it was a big, important part of our married life. So - sadly, not even a veiled reference was made during his funeral service.

GagaJo Wed 01-Mar-23 12:56:31

And yet that would have cracked a smile in a terribly sad service, for everyone.
