Am I alone thinking this about King Charles today?

He & Camilla arrived in Colchester. As the limousine drew up, Charles got out of the car and walked straight off to be saluted at and greeted. But my gaze strayed to Camilla who struggled on what looked like a springy soft mattress on the car floor, to get her balance and get herself out of the vehicle.

Look, I know her husband is the King but the optics just looked bad. What happened to common courtesy? Could he not have waited one minute to assist his 75y old wife by offering an arm? Or does his status mean he is above all this?

Poor lady I really felt for her!

When it comes to nit-picking, paddyann54, you admit you did it to keep a client. Nothing wrong with that, but it was done for commercial reasons, i.e. with a view to making money.

How extremely uncouth, even by Paddyann's low standards.

Thankful they don’t hand clutch like M&H.

Or rub backs with said hand!

Parsley3 Thu 16-Mar-23 09:58:51

Camilla does take his arm if that is allowed.

Oh, let the poor man put his swollen arthritic hands into his jacket pockets for a warm-up without micro-criticism. They are not in his trousers playing pocket billiards! He is 73, and how many posters in their 70s or beyond have reached that age without aches and pains? Doctors have suggested arthritis or oedema has caused the swelling. The cold will make his hands painful, and he is probably painfully aware of how like sausages they look. A butcher in New Zealand is already cashing in by selling "King Charles 111 sausages.

Exactly grumppa.

What are the Royal males supposed to do with their hands? I bet one reason you never saw the late Queen without her handbag is because it solved that problem, likewise Camilla and Catherine with their clutch bags.

The males tend to have one hand in pocket, or both hands behind their back.

The rule at my school back round about 1960 was that boys were only allowed to put their hands in their pockets after three years (when they were in the sixth form). There is also a difference between lounging around with one's hands in one's trouser pockets, and walking along with one's hand in a jacket pocket, as King Charles tends to do.

Parasites? What a horrible, disgusting word to use,but why am I not surprised?

Perhaps because that is what they are

Anniebach Mon 13-Mar-23 17:08:45

Paddyann you made money photographing the people you
regard as parasites,

What do you call those who feed off parasites ?

paddyann54 Mon 13-Mar-23 11:37:15

I just hope all the parents complaining about teacher strikes complain loudly about children being taken out of school and given flags to wave when these parasites visits
.Mine were always kept away from royal visits
I hope Edinburgh council doesn't allow their kids to be used as part of the D of Edinburgh propaganda on Thursday ....if I lived nearer I might go and BOO at them ....lol

Charles keeping inheritance money all went to him. Andrew annoyed. Charles should pay 40%;tax instead very unequal should pay £620,000,000

Charles and Camilla bowed at Milton Keynes and Colchester now today at Westminster for commonwealth

Did you know 90% of commonwealth countries are republics so don’t need a royal.

Wonder if this is what she had in mind all those years ago when she was making Diana's life a misery?

Pittcity Fri 10-Mar-23 08:23:24

Here's footage. Looks like a mattress on the floor. Is it in case they have to lie down if they're attacked?

it's not just about minions, security personnel have a big input in how things are done, and it's important that the principals keep to arrangements.

Eloethan Fri 10-Mar-23 00:19:46

If it's royal protocol, then it's another reason I don't like the monarchical system.

I remember there was a big media fuss when Meghan Markle closed the car door after her - a terrible faux pas apparently - she should have left it for some minion to close!

I still cannot find the film footage

It changed!

Originally you saw C&C arriving, alighting from the car and greeting the officials,

Then, for some unknown reason, the footage changed to protestors at the event, and no sign of the King and Queen.

Very odd!

I found it a few minutes ago on YouTube.

Poor them, they can't do right for doing wrong. The late Duke of Windsor when P of W was sometimes known to shake hands with his left-hand as his right got so sore from being continually used. Often he had his hands in his pockets too, shockingly! If these two didn't go out and about, they would be heavily criticised, if they do, they are often picked to pieces. Because of security the King, like the late Queen has to move on smartly, Camilla, like Philip, unfortunately has to 'manage'. Being booed must be horrid and a bit nerve wracking, and the people who do it should be ashamed at being so nasty and rude, but of course they're not. Having to smile and greet on a nasty cold day when you haven't been well and getting on a bit? I'm jolly glad its not me. "I wouldn't be king for a hundred pounds" said Alice!

LRavenscroft Thu 09-Mar-23 17:31:12

OK. So saw the footage. The cushioned floor looked a bit bulky in the limousine and I think Camilla was thrown off course because of the protestors. She just looked as if she had lost her footing both physically and metaphorically clutching her quite chunky clutch bag and then she seemed to regain it. Poor lady just looked totally out of sorts. Perhaps the Royals are used to filtering out the noise and just focussing on the people at hand. Not so sure if she is that well practised yet.
