Hi 3yrs avoided covid and yesterday we tested positive for covid. Feeling not well at all.

CrazyGrandma2 Fri 31-Mar-23 12:07:23

We also had it recently for the first time. That put paid to our theory that we were somehow immune!

Husband badly and scarily affected which resulted in an ambulance trip to A&E. Fortunately they sorted him so no need for admission. He was very poorly; I think I had the lite version.

A&E doc said they were seeing many cases now but none of them as bad as at the beginning of the pandemic. We isolated until returned a negative test. All good now.

Newgran59 I have had all my vaccines still not well.

Nanderin Fri 31-Mar-23 11:44:08

Problem is Frogs it's not just a cold for everyone I've had colds this is totally different wiped me out. Strange symptoms too.

Newgran59 Fri 31-Mar-23 11:43:05

I believe that generally those who are vaccinated are likely to have a milder dose of covid and so recover well. That's why hospital admissions are now the main indicator being monitored.
I worry though that in our current political and economic climate, not enough attention is being paid and research may have been reduced.
Also I fear we're not prepared for the next deadly virus.

My daughter got mine from boots for me.

Nanderin Fri 31-Mar-23 11:37:54

Oh no sorry Yammy hope he's not too bad. I was just talking to my daughter who lives in a different town. She said it's so odd how symptoms are different for some. My daughter and I are slightly different we haven't lost taste or smell other than a very weird thing happening. If we use vinegar or anything like salad cream vinegar in it and it happens with toast nothing else and this has only just happened yesterday all we smell is ammonia and get stinging.

TanaMa Fri 31-Mar-23 11:36:51

I have been clear all this time and am still very careful. Only shop every 6 weeks so I don't have to go to town. Really feel sorry for my friend who stayed clear until he had to go into hospital, promptly went down with covid!! Unfortunately it seems to be in the increase again.

Pippa22 Fri 31-Mar-23 11:35:33

My daughter tested positive for COVID this week. She is very careful but being a solicitor she was in very crowded poorly ventilated court rooms last week and thinks that’s wher she caught it. Two negative tests before the third positive one. No test kits available in local chemists ( her husband was sent out to get some ) but Marks and Spencer had them at £1.50 each by the tills. Nothing upmarket about them though !

Frogs Fri 31-Mar-23 11:34:06

One of my friend’s sons works on the shop floor in a supermarket . When he had Covid recently they told him it’s treated like a cold these days and he should go into work if he was well enough but should wear a mask. Now every time I see someone in a mask I think they must have Covid.

Yammy Fri 31-Mar-23 11:30:26

My DH tested positive this morning I'm keeping my fingers crossed we think he possibly caught it at the Dentist.
He has all the symptoms and can still taste though I noticed the other day he was over-seasoning his food.
As others have said all these years and not caught it and now when we have a family get-together at Easter one of us and possibly both have. As DH said "Sods Law".

Nanderin Fri 31-Mar-23 11:24:00

Also my husband who isn't 75 till August misses out. I too am in my 60s won't be getting one

Nanderin Fri 31-Mar-23 11:21:24

Just been informed my Aunt who is 95 will be getting hers soon.

Grannmarie Fri 31-Mar-23 11:14:12

Grantanow

When is the next booster due for oldies?

Hi, Grantanow, I was at our church coffee morning yesterday, all the over 70s at our table have received their appointment letters for the next dose of the vaccine.

Thinking of Shel69's DH and all who are suffering from Covid. 💕🙏

Caleo Fri 31-Mar-23 11:09:19

I am more than more than surprised, Shel69. I am angry. I began my nursing career as a fever('acute infectious fevers')nurse, and rules against cross-infection were understood and absolutely obeyed by the newest probationer nurse . In 1948 professionals knew about infection by droplets in the air.

During a pandemic of an acute viral fever, hospitals that allow people to walk around enclosed areas scattering dangerous droplets , are not keeping patients and visitors safe .

^With immaculate timing the government is no longer doing the random public sampling that let them estimate the number of cases, so the only way to judge is by hospital admissions.^

I'm not sure that's true Caramme. Why do you think that?

See this link: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-65127635
Also see DM article yesterday which repeated report from earlier this week that hospital admissions were being used to assess Covid levels.

I read you don't have to inform of you positive test unless you get free nhs kits. I don't know why because they are the same manufacturer I had to pay nearly £10 for 5. I really don't understand when it's rising again.

You really don't understand why it's rising again, Nanderin?.

Really? 😨

You don't understand why a highly infectious airborne disease is rising in a population where absolutely no mitigations are in place to reduce its incidence?

Not only highly infectious but also able to cause long term, life changing harm to some of the people who get it.

It is no surprise to me that infections are rising, and are probably far more than those reported.

You really don't understand why it's rising again, Nanderin?

It's not what Nanderin said, she said she didn't understand why we didn't have to report now, when cases seem to be on the rise.

I don't think people will buy kits and, if reporting is not encouraged, we won't know the extent of infection now.
It does seem to be on the rise and if that information is only from those who have tested, then it could be far more widespread than we realise.

Someone we know caught Covid in hospital very recently and died. The reason he was in was because of ongoing problems caused by Long Covid, sadly.

Shel69 Fri 31-Mar-23 10:20:04

I am truly surprised that a hospital allow you to walk around without masks, I must say both hospitals my husband has been in masks were totally mandatory, security guards checking as you enter, I myself haven't had covid ,despite lifting my husbands head while he was struggling to breathe, his breathe directly in my face as we didn't know it was covid, and also one of my daughters that I took care of and her children, I have had every vaccine offered to me, as had my husband, it's a strange virus, and we also have a child in our care that has immunity problems who hasn't caught it, Praise God, but its not just the physical condition my dh has depression from this, over 5 months in hospital, we don't know the outcome of this rare cyst he has lost sight in one eye and blurry in the other, and much more what makes me very angry is folk making light of this strange virus, the I'm all right jack attitude, its incredibly hurtful to those who do suffer,

Nanderin Fri 31-Mar-23 07:34:15

Nanna8 Thank you I hope everyone starts feeling well soon too.

Nanderin Fri 31-Mar-23 06:37:27

Hi a Farview how are you feeling today

nanna8 Thu 30-Mar-23 22:10:33

Hope those of you with Covid get well soon. We still have to wear masks here for visits to doctors, dentists etc. which I think is a good idea.

Nanderin Thu 30-Mar-23 21:59:54

farview Thu 30-Mar-23 21:54:59

farview Thu 30-Mar-23 21:17:25
