I don’t have a favourite word but I know what I hate

“Elevate/elevated” when describing an item of clothing.

Superfluous and utilitarian.

I always wanted to be called Olivia de Havilland! Thought it sounded so glamorous.
On a more down to earth note I also like the word Faceache.

Yammy I'd say yours is all about pleasant associations.

What I would like to know, but will never find out, is whether we are attached to certain sounds as pure sounds, or if we are attached to sounds because of their associated meanings.

Mine is definately because when I hear it in the small pocket it is spoken of I know I am nearly home.
When I was young I loved a poem about words but can only remember a small part of it
"Chimboranzo, Cotopaxi took me by the hand."
Does anyone recognise the poem?
I also like Xanadu again it sets my imagination off. I'm probably on a completely different path from everyone else with their wide knowledge of English words DH is the wordsmith in our house.

For instance Ailidh and Kate seem to me to like their fav words purely because of the sounds, especially 'trollop'.

Oo, new one on me. The Greek for Schadenfreude. 😀

Mine is 'marvellous'. You can use it for anything from a person to a cake.

MrsKen33 Sat 01-Apr-23 17:32:59

Limerence……..I’ve only just come across it.

Pigma Sat 01-Apr-23 17:32:49

Quench and twonk, though cockwomble definitely needs to be in my top 3 favourites. Love it!

I like the word linoleum, it makes the tongue roll around the mouth and closes the lips as it ends.

mummytummy Sat 01-Apr-23 16:50:56

Cockwomble is my favourite at the moment 😊
