'Queen Camilla'?

Hmmmm. I gather she's to be called Queen Camilla despite the late Queen stating that she should be Queen Consort. Albert was only the Prince Consort. Poor old Prince Philip wasnt even that. What's so special about Camilla? I was warming to her but I'm not so sure now. They're taking a risk with the public support.

I agree with icanhandthemback. It's all worked out very nicely for them. I don't know anyone who thinks she should be queen.

Queen consort was just a stepping stone title. The late queen had a very canny way of dealing with tricky issues and would have known that the consort part would eventually be dropped.

It’s Charles who makes the rules now. Camilla had earned her official place at his side.

I agree.

She is a steady presence and it must be a comfort to have Camilla supporting him in what must be a lonely job, even more so taking it on in his 70s.

"The remark that was made by him years ago wishing he was Camillas tampon is pretty disgusting"

So a private conversation between 2 consenting adults, that should never have been made public, is "disgusting"? But you have no qualms calling a woman you've never met, never spoken to and never likely to meet, a trollope? Oh the irony! grin

DaisyAnne Wed 05-Apr-23 22:50:52

You couldn't have two Queens using "Queen" while Queen Elizabeth was still alive, but it makes sense to shorten it and use it now. She is still the consort of Prince Charles, as was Prince Albert, who remained a prince but was still the consort of Queen Victoria.

The Royal family are quite good at following the rules just enough to make things work and move forward.

icanhandthemback Wed 05-Apr-23 22:49:47

I think it is more likely to be a PR mistake. She won't ever be my Queen as far as I am concerned. I think she is as conniving as made out by her stepson.

merlotgran Wed 05-Apr-23 22:49:32

The remark that was made by him years ago wishing he was Camillas tampon is pretty disgusting.

Well, you’re right about one thing. It was years ago! 🤔

BlueBelle Wed 05-Apr-23 22:44:09

No problem with that a Queen and a King sounds alright to me

The tampon comment was a comment between lovers it wasn’t meant for others ears Don’t tell me you never said anything fruity when with a lover

Why such a grudge Nicegranny she seems a pretty nice person and she obviously makes Charles very happy and that’s it really They’re all damaged by the ridiculous stuff that goes on around this rich dysfunctional family I think you ve got a distorted image of Diane she was going from man to man after things went wrong with Charles she didn’t exactly cry in a nunnery did she ? ….not that I blame her

Nicegranny Wed 05-Apr-23 22:24:38

I couldn’t agree more Gagajo.
The remark that was made by him years ago wishing he was Camillas tampon is pretty disgusting.

Very true Nicegranny. But then, he's no gentleman. A weak, spoiled and sadly damaged by his childhood, man.

Nicegranny Wed 05-Apr-23 22:16:52

I’m glad that made you laugh Hermother the last time I gave my true opinion on Camilla a few disapproved of me calling her a Trollope and had my post removed.
I dislike the fact that she gets to drop the consort bit.

Hermother Wed 05-Apr-23 22:10:47

"She’s no queen, she’s just the mistress that got very lucky."

That made me laugh out loud! grin Funniest thing I've read in a long time! grin

lemsip Wed 05-Apr-23 22:09:21

even the queen had to do as she was told by the Monarchs advisors to make a smooth accession for charles. Does not mean she was in agreement with camilla being queen

Casdon Wed 05-Apr-23 22:08:52

GagaJo

Charles is determined and it will damage him.

I'm glad he's pushing it. The sooner they're gone the better and he's just hastening it with his blind insistence.

That’s not what the polls are saying, her popularity is rising, and more people think she should be Queen than don’t. I’m ambivalent, but I don’t think it will damage Charles, he seems to be gaining ground at the moment.

Nicegranny Wed 05-Apr-23 22:03:42

I cannot forgive her or forget that Camilla was Princess Diana’s tormentor.
She’s no queen, she’s just the mistress that got very lucky.

She'll never be 'the Queen' to me the way the late Queen was

Of course she won’t. The late Queen was the monarch for seventy years. Camilla will always be the support act.

sodapop Wed 05-Apr-23 21:37:20

I agree merlotgran Queen Elizabeth knew exactly how things would pan out and gave Camilla her blessing.
I think the two of them will support each other very well as did Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth

Calendargirl Wed 05-Apr-23 21:27:31

I always said Charles would not stand for his beloved wife to be sidelined.

‘Queen Camilla’ doesn’t trip off the tongue as easily as ‘Queen Elizabeth’, but times change.

We’ll get used to it.

Granmarderby10 Wed 05-Apr-23 21:24:36

LadyHonoriaDedlock what was ghastly about the prospect of Diana being a Queen?
Bearing in mind that if she had lived she would be about 62 now.

merlotgran Wed 05-Apr-23 21:23:01

Calendargirl Wed 05-Apr-23 21:21:07

She’s not ‘Princess Catherine’ either, to be pedantic, any more than Diana was ‘Princess Diana’, aristocratic or not.

They are both Princess of Wales, that is their title, not with their own Christian names tagged on.

SueDonim Wed 05-Apr-23 21:12:04

I read that the Queen had wanted Camilla to be known as Queen Consort in preference to Princess Consort, which had been mooted.

True to tell, it doesn’t bother me what she’s called, though I have to say I miss QE2 much more than I expected! I put some stamps on letters today and thought had odd it will be to have a different head on our stamps in future.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Wed 05-Apr-23 20:53:29

Grandma70s

The other queens-by-marriage, Alexandra, Mary, and the Queen Mother, were all aristocrats in their own right, Camilla isn’t. Just a point. Of course, Princess Catherine isn’t either, but she seems more queen-like than Camilla to me.

That does come across to me as very snobbish, Grandma70s. I'm sure you didn't intend it that way.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Wed 05-Apr-23 20:51:47

It's how its done.

Just be glad that the king has an intelligent, hard-working and personable woman who isn't perpetually trying to steal the show at his side to support him, and we aren't being faced with the ghastly prospect of Queen Diana!
