'Queen Camilla'?

Hmmmm. I gather she's to be called Queen Camilla despite the late Queen stating that she should be Queen Consort. Albert was only the Prince Consort. Poor old Prince Philip wasnt even that. What's so special about Camilla? I was warming to her but I'm not so sure now. They're taking a risk with the public support.

Perhaps we should be told what actually is their role? Pose for photos, wave, smile, meet and greet, give the plebs something to gossip about, open a few buildings - anything else?

The monarch is head of state

The King reigns, but he does not rule. Ruling is done by his government, and as head of state in the UK the King is constitutionally obliged to follow the government’s advice. His main functions as head of state are to appoint the Prime Minister, and all the other ministers; to open new sessions of parliament; and to give royal assent to bills passed by parliament, signifying that they have become law.

The King also chairs monthly meetings of the Privy Council, to approve Orders in Council; he receives incoming and outgoing ambassadors; he makes a host of other appointments, such as the senior judges, but in all this he acts on the advice of the government. He has a weekly audience with the Prime Minister, and receives daily boxes of state papers for his signature, and for information. He also has regular meetings with senior officials of all kinds.

The monarch is also head of the nation

There is more

The same as any other a-political Head of State in fact, but with the addition of supporting many worthy organisations and charities which a President would not do in all probability.

I seem to remember that Queen Mary initially held the title of Queen Mother when her sons Edward V11 and subsequently George V1 came to the throne, but on the latter’s death was known as the Queen Dowager, a title she held until her own death a short time before the coronation of Elizabeth 11

Anniebach Wed 12-Apr-23 16:42:57

Queen Mary was a kings mother and a queen’s grandmother

Why do we have a queen mother but not a kings mother

Because she’s dead?

NanKate Wed 12-Apr-23 15:47:03

I’ve just heard Harry is coming to the Coronation. I think he owes Camilla an apology imo, but she won’t get it.

Bridgeit Wed 12-Apr-23 15:35:37

Because The Queen Mother was the mother of the Queen .

Hosting foreign dignitaries, on behalf of the government.

^Yet another round of boring electioneering every 4 years^

But we can have 3 (is it 3?) events in 12 months where London is taken over and we have to put up with some posh folk in a carriage waving at us. And pay for the privilege.

Give me an election any day.

Posh folk in a carriage- gave me a laugh on this incredibly wet and dull morning! True, but.

Bridgeit Tue 11-Apr-23 20:24:03

Apparently ‘Males’ aren’t given that title .

Queen Consort is enough. I think many people (including me) will find it hard to accept so soon that anyone except Elizabeth II is The Queen. Maybe eventually…

I’m fairly happy to accept Charles as King, but Camilla as Queen? Not for me.

But had William become King instead of Charles would it not have been Queen Catherine?
I suppose she may still be Queen Consort Camilla, but just shortened to Queen so as not to such a mouthful!
How come Philip was not King Consort?

Bridgeit Tue 11-Apr-23 19:59:35

Definition of Consort =Wife,Husband , Spouse or companion of a reigning Monarch.
Surely this is not a big deal . ?

MrsNemo Tue 11-Apr-23 17:46:42

The wife of the King is the Queen. That is how the constitution works. Norman St. John Stevas - he who was wheeled out to give constitutional advice on occasion years ago -made that pronouncement.

Diana was involved with ‘the greatest love I ever had ‘ before
Harry was born.

Nightsky2 Tue 11-Apr-23 16:24:46

Nicegranny

I find the remarks that I have a grudge against Camilla and that Diana had many lovers pathetic considering that Diana was a young virgin when she married Charles. The fact that Diana had to put up with years of humiliation at the hands of C & C I wouldn’t have blamed her at all for having a few lover’s and making it known to Charles.
It was a well known fact AnnieB Charles had said he wanted to be Camilla’s tampon.
I do agree that Camilla does seem nice and she does seem to support Charles , they do seem happy but they are both guilty of manipulating Diana and pulling the wool over her eyes, deceiving her.
Camilla has caused trouble for Harry also if you read his book.

Charles is the only one who knows whether Diana was a virgin or not. I doubt very much that she was a virgin bride.

I’m very glad that he’s finally going to make Camilla his Queen.

I haven’t read the book and have no intention of reading it.

Wouldn't an elected head of state be a job of work?

You mean like a head of state?

I think I might manage to fill in another postal vote if it was for an elected head of state.

It's not the filling in of a form it's the tedious electioneering for months beforehand.

The complaints about the costs wouldn't end if we had an elected President either.
A new palace(s) because the present one leaks? No problem
A country residence for entertaining? Of course
Backhanders to cronies? Ahhh, now you're talking!
You expect me to support organisations and charities? Not on your nellie!!

I've just re-read that post and realised it might be misinterpreted, for which I am sorry.

I was just wondering if Anniebach is able to see the future and make sweeping statements about it.
