I don’t know what triggered this but whilst out hiking the Wolds today I got to thinking about my parents going to “Dinner Dances” in the 1970’s.
It was such a big thing, my narcissistic mother would get months of gossip out of these events.
They were the highlight of her year.
She would buy whole new outfits have her hair and nails done and tell me how everyone would be waiting to see her dress.
The following days and weeks she would tell anyone who listened how amazing she looked, how dreadful everyone else looked and then reel out all the compliments she had been given and tear all her “friends” to pieces.
I can remember thinking that if the pinnacle of adulthood was a dinner dance then life wasn’t that great.
It seems such an old fashioned concept.
Is the Dinner Dance dead or is there a corner of the UK where they are alive and kicking?
Labelling cake tins or cutlery you have loaned.
