My daughter sent the book to me during lockdown 2020...and even though have watched it on tv before...just watched it again....am in bits...cant stop crying....feel like I want to be 'found ' like the boy...
Not good at sharing my sadness...but feeling the effects of it ...its frightening isn't it...anyway...watching it made me cry.....that's a 'relief ' in itself isnt it.

farview flowers It's lovely isn't it?

It was first shown over Christmas and I watched it then- I loved it and I will never forget it.

Wyllow3 Mon 10-Apr-23 22:40:33

I watched it..and ordered the book, and the book is so simple, and true, and all about acceptance, and the most lovely illustrations you could frame them. I felt found, not lost.

Watching Charlie Mackesy(sp?) and the story unfold on TV, made me understand the book a lot better.
I found it very emotional.

I have the book and am struggling with it tbh.
Not seen the film.

I’ve had the book a while and often dip into it. Have bought it for DGD too.
I watched the film at Christmas and yesterday watched the making of it with Charlie Mackesy. I too had very teary eyes.
It’s beautiful and simple and so very kind.❤️

Absolutely loved it.

NotSpaghetti try and watch the film on catch up. I found all the background story helps with the book.

I watched it yesterday, liked what it was trying to say and think it will become a classic.

DH bought it for me for Easter. This lovely book will join ‘Wind in the Willows’ as my favourites of all time.

They all lose the mask of pretence and become who they are, and are loved for it. That's a blessing of the book. Yes, one needs a hankie.

I plan to buy the Scottish version which is The laddie the Mowdie the Tod and the Cuddie.

Charlie Mackesy's drawings are formed with spare and sinuous lines and are anatomically true as should be expected from a trained artist.

The Horse is the model for Lloyds Bank's sympathetic and supportive horses in their advert.

I’ve had this book for a while and bought it for Mackesy’s wonderful ‘spare’ illustrations. When I saw the film over Christmas I was amazed at how faithfully and well it had transcribed for television. It could have been awful. It certainly wasn’t. I pick up the book whenever I need to be soothed.

Gabriel Byrne’s lovely voice! ❤️

Yammy Tue 11-Apr-23 12:06:53

I bought the GC it for Christmas and asked if they wanted to watch it. The answer was" No", they wanted the" Sound of Music", which drives me mad after seeing it umpteen times.
Is it perhaps more for adults and we empathise with the message more? Youngsters just take it at face value.

Jackiest Tue 11-Apr-23 12:07:46

Saw it for the first time at Easter. My granddaughter wanted to watch it.

Always whatever you are doing think, is it being kind.

DamaskRose Tue 11-Apr-23 12:11:51

I’ve had the book for a while but resisted the film in case it wasn’t true to it. But it was, simply delightful and very moving. Agree with NanKate about The Wind in the Willows and also Anne of Green Gables for me.

I plan to buy the Scottish version which is The laddie the Mowdie the Tod and the Cuddie.

Those words are used for animals in Cumberland as well. A farmer friend's car reg. is TOD. My father caught mowdies in traps and we have a saying "Did y ever see a cuddie jump awore a five barred yat. The laddie would be a Lal lad.
We share so many words with the Scots.smile

Yammy Yes I now live in Northumberland and lots of words are shared and accents intermingle.

It's because we have the Reiver blood in us, The accents slides from one country to the other in Northumberland in Cumberland it slides until it reaches Annan and then we have trouble understanding them unless we talk what we call "broad". My forebears are Armstrongs and Elliots from up on the Cheviots the worst of the worst. Its embarrassing in Carlisle all their names are in the pavement and so many family names are there. Our chimneys reek and we have sneaks on the door I bet you say the same.
