Witzend, I'm glad the new hairdresser worked out for you! A good cut makes a huge difference.

I have a very good hairdresser, who has a salon in her house. I've not had any issues, and now that I have stopped colouring my hair, appointments are fairly quick.

I go to a gents hairdresser, no bells and whistles. She does a fabulous cut for me, follows exactly a picture that I take each and every time. I am the only customer in there for the whole time. She only charges £20 and the cut lasts at least 7 weeks

My last three hairdressers were bells and whistles salons, very pricey and after a few sessions they just did a routine cut and blow dry. Last one cost me an arm and leg £60 and took her 20 minutes from start to finish, including a junior hairwash and a customer phone call

The one I have now is a keeper

Rarely get the cut I think I want, though to be truthful the cut I want hasnt always suit me when I get it, take a picture of the cut and if she cuts true to it be happy, and if not find another hairdresser or another cut next time

I used the same hairdresser for over 15 years which were quite few miles away , that is until they moved their premises to a different salon which had no parking places nearby , so , with that I decided to try a local salon which had good reviews .
I took a photo on my phone with me the style that I liked and that made things so much easier as new hairdresser knew exactly what I wanted . It is best move I’ve made as it’s just up the road from me . You don’t know until you try as they say .

I swear bt taking in photographs. That reminds me bought a magazine for DGD last week and I must remember to photocopy one of the hairdos in it as it is exactly what I want.

I went to the same hairdresser for 15 years but she decided not to continue post COVID lockdown. It took me ages to find another but eventually I found an even better one, she was fantastic. One day, I arrived for my appointment only to find that their had been a huge row in the salon that morning and she'd walked out. The owner of the salon did my hair cut instead and she did a terrible job. So I'm still looking for a decent hairdressers and there aren't that many on this island.

I felt so guilty when I found a new hairdresser and bumped into my old hairdresser with my fresh new do.

So glad to hear your update Witzend.

There seem to be a lot of people putting up with unsatisfactory service. It’s your hair, don’t accept second best.

I’m with you both Lucky and Shep
I dye it myself and cut bits off when they look a bit past it.
There isn’t a great deal that you can do with my hair

It was fantastic! A Brazilian chap - best haircut I’ve had for ages. Will def. be going back.
Dh is out - I’m not sure he’ll recognise me when he gets back!

TBH I do sometimes wonder whether my previous hairdresser is a money-laundering wheeze. I know her dh has his own business, and I nearly every time I walk past, which is fairly often, the place is so un-busy I have to wonder how she can even make enough to pay the business rates. And this has been going on for years.

I’m going to feel bad now when walking past - she very often sees me and waves, and it’s going to be obvious that I’ve treacherously gone elsewhere. 🙁

I am with a new hairdresser now. My previous one always seemed to have her granddaughters in the salon wanting this or that done and always at the time of my appointment! Hairdresser would say "you don't mind if I French plait our hair before I see to you do you? I didn't have much choice in the matter actually.

Then lockdown happened and the salon closed down like everywhere else. That was my opportunity to seek out a new stylist post lockdown and she is brilliant. She keeps to the appointment time and the rest of the staff are amazing too.

Me too Lucky. I have never, ever, floated out of the salon feeling fabulous like Blossoming apart from when I used to go just to have it put up in the 60s. Rather, I have dived out hoping not to see anyone I know and rushed home to re-do it.

I have a great hairdresser and I also go to the salon for my nails and sometimes a facial. Do you tip? What is the going rate for tipping?

Greyduster Tue 11-Apr-23 12:04:29

I had the same hairdresser for forty years and then during covid lockdown she decided to retire. I thought she was good, but then I was introduced to my present one and she is amazing. My hair has never been cut so well. Not cheap but worth every penny.

It's a total lottery... but then so is so much else these days. I'm pushing 80, so still go in for the occasional "perm". Took me a while to find a hairdresser who not only still offers them, but who also does a decent job. If you find a good one, hang onto them like grim death! They're few and far between.

Mollygo Tue 11-Apr-23 11:51:53

Good luck with that. I tried it a fortnight ago and I’m still pleased with the result!

Luckygirl3 Tue 11-Apr-23 11:41:24

This is why my hair is long - I got fed up with hairdressers not achieving what I wanted.

Ziplok Tue 11-Apr-23 11:36:22

Good luck 😁🤞

Blossoming Tue 11-Apr-23 11:36:04

Hope you have a good experience this time. After much searching I found a lovely hairdresser about 6 years ago. I float out of the salon feeling fabulous and that’s how a good hairdo should make you feel.

Witzend Tue 11-Apr-23 11:19:30

…about the hairdresser I’ve used for ages who is frankly not very good (but she’s close by and you can always get an appt) and booked another for today. Hair is way overdue for a cut, and I want it a little bit different. Since I’m hopeless at explaining, I’m taking a photo in. So 🤞.
