A "nice" thread

Lovely idea, thanks.

Today is was my first go at chairing our writing group. I was quite nervous as I am the new girl. As it turned out it went well. I even read my own short story out at the end and it was ok.

Low on confidence at the moment so these events boosted my morale.

It has just dawned on me I cant reply to everyone.
I havent even managed the first page fully.

The posts are wonderful.
Lots of important and lovely things happening or happened.

I am going to take my time reading them carefully.

I tend to skim read a bit, in general.
But there are things I wouldnt see properly on here, if I did that.

The posts really are heartwarming. So thank you to everyone.

And do carry on posting if you want to.
I think most people can do with more cheer in their lives.

Thank you Ziplok and Aveline. Yes it is a relief to see our little girl obviously feeling more cheerful, she even bought her teddy to show to me this morning! Tomorrow a final visit to our lovely Vet then hopefully we can look forward to a happy summer. I like the sound of your puppy netflixfan, and I hope you have many happy years together.

A nice thing-I took my 12 week old puppy for his second (very short) walk today and he enjoyed it so much! So enthusiastic, and so lovely for me to observe his joy of life.

Yesterday I went to a little village hall where they had books for sale to raise money to keep the hall going. I play whist there once a week, with some good players and it is a happy couple of hours and using the brain with a bit of banter too. So I arrived when it was quiet and had the place to myself before several more people came in. I am definitely a bookworm and enjoy many different things . I bought 20 books for £10, some of beloved authors and other new to me . I also enjoyed making suggestions to a couple of people and included the great No 1 Ladies Detection Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, set in Botswana and much more about sorting out problems rather than specific detectors. for some reason dont care for his Scottish books and then saw Crampton Hodnet by Barbara Pym. A lady was looking at it and so of course recommended it and other Pym books. Another couple of people joined in and we had quite a chat about her. I have lived abroad quite a bit and if you ever see quite old books by Ann Bridge, they are stories but set in cities where she lived as a diplomats wife. So when I read of a particular cafe or square , I recognise that she has actually been there . So the book buying is very ecologically sound too, as the lady who runs this , does this every so often and you can then give the books you have read back to be sold again to the pleasure of everyone. Finding a new author is definitely a bonus for me, and once I have found them I usually read every book they have written. Happy days everyone and you cant beat a good book!

Oh poor wee dog! Hope the recovery goes really well. I tried to find a nice dog biscuit emoji but no luck. Please accept a verbal one!

Oh, that’s good news Jaberwock. I’m pleased that your little dog is feeling better and stronger. It always amazes me how our four legged friends soon seem to adapt after the loss of one of their limbs. 😊

Our little dog had a bad twisty fall two weeks ago, and had to have her right leg amputated . Having been very poorly, today is the first day that she has been for a decent walk on her three legs, and that we have seen that her life will be enjoyable again. Hooray 😊🐕

My start to the day the sound of a starlings nest above my bedroom window. I noticed it while planting my beans out this week.
I am going to see our twins today they live not far away from us. They so resemble our son and me it is remarkable. Just like their lovely mum they are really good little bakers. Now they go to school and their parents both work it’s a busy life. My ears will be ringing later as they both talk at once!

There are a few posters mentioning birds.
I was going to put them together, but cant really.
Posts like yours have other things in them as well.

I would have thought starlings above your bedroom window must be noisy. Nice! But noisy.

This thread has reminded me of our English teacher at the Academy who banned the use of the word NICE in our written work. She insisted that NICE was the most overused adjective in the English language and that we must always think of a more suitable, precise word. She also lectured that any gift, day out, event, meal,etc, described as Nice, was 'damned with faint praise'

I know what you mean!
Pretty sure my teacher had a word with me when I was 10 about that too.
I did understand her point of view. But I did find it annoying even then, searching for a different word!

When I started this thread, it was 7am in the morning. And I couldnt think of a more suitable thread title back then.

My young cat, Tigger, scared the life out of me by wandering out into our busy road and into gardens on the other side, this morning.

I know I cannot prevent this, unless I never let the cats out, which I regard as cruel, but I had to force myself to be calm about it.

Quarter of an hour later, he came home safe and sound.

Yikes!

Glad he returned home safely.

I was hoping to reply to each and every poster. Can still do if people want me to. Perhaps I will carry on.

I had coffee with a dear friend this morning. We met at our local museum. Excellent coffee and lovely long talk. We put ourselves and the world to rights. Good friends are worth their weight in gold.

Something very simple. I get great pleasure from listening to music in my car, played from my Spotify list.
For months, Bluetooth wasn't working, even after trying every tip on the internet, consequently, no music. It looked like an expensive repair.
On my way to drop off some Mars Bar cake to my daughter, which I forgot to give her, when we went as a family to see our new granddaughter this morning, my music started playing spontaneously. I have no idea why.🤷‍♀️

The best part of this morning was that my two boys, who hadn't really been speaking for the last two years, were talking again.

My heart was singing along with the music!

I had the exciting news from my cousin that her son's chemo has had the satisfactory result of reducing his problem by 34%. Excellent start inspiring joy. Got down and dirty in the garden yesterday. Put in some exciting new plants and got rid of loads of recyclable to our local tip. Good feeling. Off to London this weekend for the strangest but potentially exciting fun time in a group of twenty (seventeen of whom I've never met before). So far activities include casino visit, Peter Kay at O2 and a bit of personal theatre. Can't wait. I so love having specific things to look forward to no matter how large or small

Went out to do some weeding and found this little chap having a snooze in the sun. We don't see many sparrows so he was a bit of a surprise. He didn't seem inclined to get up so we weeded somewhere else so he could have a bit of a lie-in

What a lovely post and I love the attitude of gratitude idea.
I celebrated a friends 60th on Friday with very good friends. Spent Saturday in the garden tackling the weeds and enjoying the sunshine. And had a lovely walk on Sunday with my puppy who’s finally got the recall thing .
I love being out in nature and love walking in woods or forests. I find I breathe more easily walking in woods rather than open heathland.

I've been thinking recently about Inheritance Tax, which is a thorny problem to work out. Today the firm of solicitors I usually use gave me thirty minutes of clear advice for free which was enough to explain what I needed to know. Definitely worth doing.

I had spinal surgery 3 weeks ago so halfway through my time off work/not driving and I’ve woken up feeling like I’ve turned a corner today! Looking forward to being able to do jobs around my house again!

I walked in the sun to our coffee morning which was well attended and am now getting ready for a friend's 90th birthday tea this afternoon.
