Keeping up appearances - or not!

I personally don’t think it’s anyone else’s business what you wear in your own house, if you want to wear pjs all day then do it. But I like to get dressed after my shower and put my nightwear on around 8pm. The only time I wear pjs in the day is if I was poorly. I’ve always done it and that’s how I am I’m not going to change now.

I am a morning person, generally up and dressed by 7. But how I wish I wasn’t. I have tried. Turned over, snuggled down but still irritatingly wide awake, and if I stay in bed too long I get a headache. On the other hand I’m a relatively early bedder so it balances out. Basically we should all do what makes us happy and we shouldn’t judge how others dress in their own homes.

I getup and dressed straight away. I can’t bear not to, but each to their own.
I recall that my mum started not getting dressed when she was in her seventies, but ten years later, she suddenly said, What on earth was I thinking? And thereafter, no matter how long it took her, she always got dressed properly each morning.

Glad to have that recommendation Riverwalk as they are quite expensive but I need to stock up as most of mine are falling apart. I usually have bought plain ones but the inevitable tea and coffee stains...patterns would be better.

I've been wearing Cyberjammies nighties for a few years - they're very good quality with interesting fun patterns!

They seem to be an ethical company, in as much as one can ascertain these things - British but goods made in India and paying their workers higher than the legal minimum.

I'm usually asleep by around 22:00; up and dressed in yesterday's clothes at 05:30 to take the dogs to a lamppost (I live within lovely but ungated communal gardens, can't just chuck them out the back like I used to); strong coffee, shower, clean clothes, make up and out with them for a walk at 07:00.

It genuinely makes me joyful.

Each to their own, and in retirement, all the more so! Absolutely, do what makes You happy!!

After all the years of dressing before dawn and the rush to get everything essential achieved before work, I too tend to stay in my comfortable PJs with a warm baggy hoody first thing in the morning to do the morning chores. To this end my PJs are carefully chosen - plain tracksuit style cotton jersey bottoms, to look similar to casual day wear- so i look dressed if the postman calls. Once the chores are done the PJs wash quickly and easily and I can shower and dress properly.

It's a double edged sword. In the past, being very depressed, one of my basic Rules is that I MUST get up, dressed and going (no laying in bed all day) even though it was an effort to climb into day clothes. However, I felt triumphant at having done so. For that sole reason lounging around in nightclothes all day is for me a 'warning signal'...

No problem, your business, my 4 grown up daughters go into their pj's when they get home from work, they look more like lounge wear really, brilliant idea,

More than once my Swedish friend has phoned (from Stockholm) during the late morning and I’ve said, ‘I’m not dressed yet and it’s (e.g.) ten to eleven.’

And she’s said, ‘Nor am I - and it’s ten to twelve here!’ 😂

I do feel very slightly embarrassed if I have to answer the door to the postman at 10.30 in my dressing gown, but I’m well able to summon the aplomb to act as if I give not a monkey’s.

Entirely up to you Foxygloves I sleep in nothing, so am up, washed/showered and dressed quite early. Habit I suppose, but I’ve always been the same, when working, I was just up earlier and sometimes different clothes from now,

When I went to the bottle bank midday on Sunday I saw a young couple in pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers coming out of the local shop with cereal, bread etc, so you have a long way to go

It's perfectly all right to wear whatever you are comfortable in and to hell with what other people think.

For myself I prefer to be up and dressed before mid-morning. I recall once being very late indeed as a teenager still in nightwear and my parents thoroughly disapproved - anyone would think I'd kicked a puppy or strangled a kitten. I never forgot that and can still feel their disapproval even now if I'm a bit tardy.

I have to get dressed as soon as I have done my breakfast .

I’m up had breakfast showered dressed and out with dogs no later than 8.15am every day. I used to love to lie in pre children pre dogs.

I also have a dog , so I’m up about 7 , put him in the garden , have a cup of tea in bed . I put on leggings and hoodie and walk him about 8 for an hour and shower when I get home . If I’m pottering around the house and garden I’ll stay in my leggings . However I’m normally out and about doing stuff , so I do get dressed . I’m not a fan of staying in my pjs , it reminds me of being ill . But each to their own

Same here Blondiescot don't want to scare the neighbours by dog walking in my nightie.

You do you! I'm usually up and dressed fairly early, as I've got to walk the dog, but I'm usually in my jammies fairly early.

Isn't doing your own thing sheer joy?!! Never fancied retirement but when I eventually succumbed at 74 I gave freedom laldy and still do. Absolutely love it. I'm lazy or active as suits my whim. Wonderful......

No sounds great to me!. Its one of my pleasures in life now, not having to get up dressed, make up etc and leave the house at 7. Pj, s or joggies bottoms and t shirt unless I'm going out nowadays.

I would be a bit embarrassed if someone called and found me undressed, but tbh, I think that unannounced 'dropping in' is rude, so the fault would be with the caller, who should be the one who feels bad.

I'll answer the trades entrance, but my husband's workers actually only come over for biscuits, sandwiches. They like food and I doubt care how a woman older than their Nan looks at wakeup or break time.

I like to spend time in bed on my laptop in the morning unless I have a builder coming or an appointment outside the house. It's one of the perks of living alone.. the freedom to do exactly what we want to do.. there are of course disadvantages too
