I’ve never known such a cold April! 🥶

A couple of hours ago the temp. on the thermometer outside our kitchen window read 7.8 deg. And dh said just now that it’s still only 8. And we’re in outer SW London.

Also, our flowering cherry usually takes about a week from the time the buds begin to open, to full flowering.
This year it’s taken 3 weeks.

It seems about the same to me. We've only ever put the heating off at the end of April. Put back on again at the end of September/ beginning of October.

Oh it’s warmed up -25C today, lovely sun. I love the Autumn here. Autumn and Spring are the 2 best seasons down in the south of Australia.

Still have winter quilt on and electric blanket! Not using log burner now though, or as much central heating. Does seem to have been a long winter in the uk. Roll on sun and warmth!

I’m sick of being cold, I went online yesterday to look for a last minute holiday abroad, going by the prices I think half the country is doing the same.

Sunshine, the first for several days, tempted us to the beach for a walk. Lovely and bright but goodness the wind was oh so cold. Apparently back to grey and wet tomorrow and for the next week. It does get me down. I’m not looking for hot weather, just bright days.

I’m not envious of anyone going to Spain next week as it’s supposed to be 40 degrees there, which will be an April record.

It's the wind that has been so challenging here on the Welsh border.

North Manchester here and I’ve found this month cold, especially with the fierce cold winds. This afternoon the sun appeared, the wind left and I’ve been a long walk with a dog then 2 hours tidying the garden. Fabulous but I’m on the sofa in the (naff) conservatory as my back is complaining. It’s wonderfully warm, windows open and the roof I had dotted a couple of years ago makes it more of a room extension to the sitting room, happy days

I'm in S/E Kent, and I'm dreading summer as I'm already warm enough!!

TBH I was glad of heavy rain yesterday, since we recently had 2 small areas of turf laid so otherwise I’d have had to water it.

Good for the nature reserves round here.

Durham has a forecast of zero overnight and it’s down to 5 now. At least it’s dry.

I think the problem is not that we have had dramatic cold weather. I too remember snowy Easters, but that the cold has been steady and relentless, no snow, but no sudden summery periods either.

Just cold day after day after day, enlivened only by pouring rain or gale force winds and with sunshine in very short supply. We had 30% less sunshine than average in March, and I expect it to be much the same in April, if not even less.

I'm much more sensitive to the cold (and bad weather of any kind) now that I'm old. Still, I can remember snow in the Easter holidays several times in the past, so don't think it's unusual weather. We'd have a roaring fire at home, back then, though - and having any heating seems like a luxury now.

The tortoise was out early, munching the dandelions. I happily walked the dog coatless this lunchtime, then got some extra exercise running back up the hill as the heavens opened!
It says 13° now, but it doesn’t feel like it.

I got my ‘big jaiket’ out again today. The rain didn’t come to much but the wind cut like a knife. The CH came on mid-afternoon! shock

Just been to my Tai Chi class and got soaked walking there and back. Thankfully I have a truly waterproof anorak and that is hung up, dripping wet in the boot room together with my sodden trainers.

We have had a hailstone shower here in Glasgow. My almost dry washing was soaked! 😡

Siope Mon 24-Apr-23 15:31:36

It’s raining again. I am so sick of this.

Norah Mon 24-Apr-23 15:16:05

It's 11, chilly-pleasant to work in the gardens and walk dogs.

Jaxjacky Mon 24-Apr-23 15:13:52

Stormy with hail in S Hampshire, not nice.

Really quite warm and sunny here today in Brighton

M0nica Mon 24-Apr-23 13:26:51

Frost expected tonight!

Still wearing my lined trousers for golf and usually wet weather over-trousers for extra warmth and probably rain again. Usually in cut offs and short sleeves by now with a light jumper if windy. Still got the heating on here mornings and evenings.
