A couple of hours ago the temp. on the thermometer outside our kitchen window read 7.8 deg. And dh said just now that it’s still only 8. And we’re in outer SW London.

Also, our flowering cherry usually takes about a week from the time the buds begin to open, to full flowering.
This year it’s taken 3 weeks.

Yes same here - on the South Downs nearish Brighton

Franbern Fri 21-Apr-23 12:08:46

I know it is not warm, BUT....have now taken of my winter 4.5 tog duvet and replaced it with my normal summer coverlet. Just keeping a thin thrown handy in case I need it any night

I do find being too warm at night more of a problem for me than being cold, and my flat is quite warm. Have not had any heating on for about three weeks now.

Intend to use this weekend to put away winter jumpers and bring out spring tops, etc.

I can remember having my son's birthday parties in April, in the garden with awnings for protection against the sun.. That was a few years ago and it seems to have become progressively colder since then.. I'm also in Brighton and temperatures are predicted to be even colder next week..

Same here in our bit of Normandy. Overnight 1 or 2°, bitter cold winds (weirdly often from the south). Our heated floor is still on....

It’s cold and raining with a fairly brisk breeze here in S E Essex.

The weather is not helping my grumpy mood 😡

BlueBelle Fri 21-Apr-23 12:44:56

Suns out but the wind is strong and freezing cold and has been for weeks now

HowVeryDareYou2 Fri 21-Apr-23 12:46:18

It's 9 degrees here in Nottingham. I've put the heating on!

Siope Fri 21-Apr-23 12:51:01

Cold and raining in the midlands. Dipped down to zero the night before last and I don’t think it’s been above about 8 degrees actual temperature all month.

I hate it.

6 degrees by the coast in Somerset. Grey and drizzly rain. It feels very cold!

Marydoll Fri 21-Apr-23 13:15:25

I dont find it any different from previous years.
However here in Glasgow we are used to cold wet weather.
It has been sunny her for the last few days. Oh joy!
My birthday is in May, it snowed the day I was born and we have had snow quite a few times in May.

Ditto- and we’re in Australia ( southern states). It has been much colder down here for the last few years.

Eshma Fri 21-Apr-23 13:20:49

We dont seem to get two or more consecutive days of sunshine and warm. I remember at the beginning of lockdown we were outside for days on end.
I'm still in winter coats.

Caramme Fri 21-Apr-23 13:24:10

Definitely feels cooler to me here in Cheshire. I am still using the heating from time to time, and I can’t recall doing that at this time of year before. I am currently still in winter layers. We are off to lovely N Wales for a couple of nights tonight so just hoping there will be some glimpses of the sun.

I did read that later in the year (didn’t specify how late) El Niño is coming into play which will warm the earth. Not that we need it really given last summer in the northern hemisphere.

It was bright and sunny at the Yorkshire Showground yesterday, but the wind was cold. I remember being at the Harrogate spring flower show many years ago and we had to shelter from the snow in the big glasshouse in the Valley Gardens.
When we married in April 1982 we had a lovely warm day.

M0nica Fri 21-Apr-23 14:41:50

Lovely weather yesterday, I managed to get the grass cut. Today it is cold wet and windy.

It has been a miserable winter, long, cold, windy and wet and spring seems to be no better.

Grandmabatty Fri 21-Apr-23 14:49:36

15° here in central Scotland and was 13° the last few days. There's been a sunny spell but it's not warm in the strong wind. I think last year was unseasonably warm at this time. I suppose you're used to warmer weather further south.

Redhead56 Fri 21-Apr-23 14:49:54

I was in Pendle yesterday having lunch with our daughter it was a beautiful day. Today back home we have just put the central heating on its raining and cold no two days are the same.

Franbern Fri 21-Apr-23 15:10:00

It does seem as if we remember lovely sunny and warm Aprils in the past, However my twin daughters birthday is on 22nd of this month and I can well remember the year we purchased them their first ever two wheeled cycles (with stabilisers), and they were unable to use them as there was so much snow on the ground outside for the week after their birthdays in a London suburb..

Shinamae Fri 21-Apr-23 15:21:41

Cold here in North Devon as well, was lovely and sunny yesterday but also cold

Patsy70 Fri 21-Apr-23 15:37:13

I agree, it has been a long, miserable Winter. The sunshine is intermittent, so I’ve only managed one shorts & t-shirt afternoon last week, whilst gardening. We’re in SE London/Kent border. Off to Spain with my daughter on Monday to visit my sister and can’t wait to feel some warm sunshine - it’s in mid 20s, so just about right. 😊

LadyHonoriaDedlock Fri 21-Apr-23 15:40:57

Not too bad here in Glasgow, so long as you stay out of the wind. 16°C but there's a strong breeze from the east that takes the edge off it. Glasgow is quite sheltered though.

We do seem to be stuck with easterly winds for the foreseeable future. I eventually found a proper pressure map with isobars (remember those?) and it seems we have a huge anticyclone stuck off Norway, keeping the winds in that quarter.

Last week when I was in Hull the wind was in the north and it had razor blades in it that all but took your skin off. It was bitterly cold. Of course in the flatlands in that part of the world there's nothing west of the Urals to stop it.

Mollygo Fri 21-Apr-23 17:11:34

It says (BBC) that it’s sunny and 14° here. It was sunny earlier on because of the wind it was not 14° and now the sun has gone behind the clouds, it’s even colder.

Here in east Scotland we have had lots of lovely days . We sit in our unheated conservatory when it is sunny and had to open the door it was so warm . To-day has been lovely .
