maddyone good luck to your son! My DS ran some years ago and it was such a wonderful atmosphere. One of the runners seemed to melt towards the end; his legs wobbled and he almost collapsed, but the crowd shrieked encouragement and he managed to recover his balance and run on to the finish line. A lovely day - I hope he enjoys it.

I'm tracking one of my sons-in-law and my daughter's friend who has MND, is on a ventilator and being pushed by a team of his friends.

My 59 year old Chum and Boss is doing her first one today.
So proud of her for supporting a small Charity which will benefit.

I spoke to someone the other day whose daughter is running.
A friend used to run every year but I think he's given up now; he raised a lot of money over the years for a local charity.

My friends have been running for a hospice for years now, and they must have raised thousands. This year the wife can’t run as her asthma is bad, but her husband is running - he ran the Brighton marathon two weeks ago.

Whitewave he’s running for the Royal Parks. Not really his choice or ours but his place was awarded through his Chambers, who have put up several of their barristers/staff to run, but agreed to raise the money for the charity of the Royal Parks. I would prefer he was running for a hospital or whatever but he isn’t. Can’t help that, still enormously proud of him.
He did point out to me that I loved visiting Richmond Park when he actually lived in London, but they moved out of London about four years ago.

Brilliant! Everyone is doing good of some sort. I get overwhelmed when watching the time and effort put in. Have you seen him yet? I keep watching avidly - no luck with my friend.

No Whitewave, haven’t seen him despite looking hard. But also preparing lunch for our other son (also a runner) and his wife, so in and out of different rooms. Getting updates from the other two, all keen runners, our daughter is tracking him from New Zealand.
You’re right though, the Royal Parks is a good charity because enormous numbers of people enjoy them every day. He’s raised over one and a half thousand at the moment.

My son is running in the London Marathon today. I’m really proud of him. My other son and daughter track him, in fact they all track one another on their runs, and apparently he’s three miles in. He’s done a number of half marathons but this is his first full marathon. I’ve got the television on but haven’t spotted him. Don’t suppose I will. Watching Mo Farrah at the moment though. Anyway, well done to my boy.

Last year I managed (with my grandsons help) to record my daughter going through the finishing line. Can’t remember how I did it though ( or know what time she was likely to finish!).

Wow, that’s impressive Maybee. We’re all watching together now, son and daughter in law just arrived. He’s done eighteen miles now. I’m ridiculously proud of him. How silly, my daughter has run marathons and half marathons, both boys done half’s before, but this is the London marathon, makes it special. I’ve just donated more money to his cause because I feel so proud of him.
So number one son who is here has just entered the ballot to run next year!

I don’t think people realise how difficult it is to get to run in the marathon. Or that you have to register before a certain time (maybe even the night before?) which was a worry last year because of the rail strikes. She didn’t raise money for charity as she’d had an injury and wasn’t sure if she would make the race. My son did a half marathon to raise money for a commemorative park bench for a little friend of his sons. I was more worried about him because my daughter has always ran but he only took it up to raise money for the bench. I can’t remember how I managed to find the end of the London race.
