Tonight’s the night, I’ve persuaded my lovely husband and he said YES!

We’re going to have supper watch an episode of “Rough Diamonds” then set off to try and see the Northern Lights.
Anyone else doing the same?
I will let you know if it was a success.

I hope I’m not the only one whose first thought on seeing the OP’s title, was Victoria Wood’s ‘Let’s Do It!’ song. 😂

We hear reports sit up late looking towards Shap and see nothing. Last August we did see for about two hours lots of shooting stars. The next morning DD inflated the bubble by saying we had all had too much pop. Enjoy your stay I hope you are getting good weather now and the sleet has cleared.

Thanks. I saw a photo of the lights over Shap, and they looked amazing. I don't know if you need to look in a particular direction to see them, as the friend who saw them over my house said they were vivid, but other friends who live nearby didn't see a thing, despite having seemingly perfect vantage points.

The journey's not a letdown, though. I'm having a few days of peace on my own, then my husband will join me at the weekend.

I will if we get anything, but I think we'll be very lucky! It's turned to hail now.

Don't believe everything you hear about the lakes. I live only miles from Shap and have never seen them!!!
I hope your journey was not too much of a letdown.

Sago

Sitting in a lay-by on the Yorkshire Wilds, a little concerned someone thinks we’re lonely doggers😬.
No lights yet

A likely story Sago 😄

They were seen in Norfolk recently.

It is a fantastic experience to see the Aurora Borealis, hope you saw it.

Cossy Wed 26-Apr-23 11:23:23

Sounds fabulous !! We live in the South East in a very built up area, sometimes cannot even see stars 😢😢 Let us know how it all goes and good luck 😊😊

Aveline

'Lonely doggers'! grin What a thought

We did see a number of cars in a lay by on the coast road and for a few moments thought they must be in the know.
Then the penny dropped it’s a well known dogging site😬

Has your husband forgiven you yet Sago?
How many favours do you owe him?
😉

He was surprisingly good natured, perhaps he’s used to an anti climax😉.

Humph! As I said, we travelled to the Lakes to see them, as they were vivid over Shap last night, apparently, but nothing. To top that, I've just had a text from a friend who is delighted because she drove through them past my house! I could have seen them from the kitchen window if we'd stayed at home 😢

Aveline Mon 24-Apr-23 20:20:08

It's very strange weather here. Cold and dull then sudden heavy rain showers then sudden sunny outbreaks. Now pretty cloudy. Goodness knows what's coming next.

paddyann54 Mon 24-Apr-23 20:18:45

The Aurora is frequently seen over Ben Lomond so going just 2 miles to the foot of the loch gives a great view .Only problem is since lockdown its hard to get any space as people flock from miles away as soon as Aurora watch hints there'll be a show

Lovely idea, hope you get clear skies!

crazyH Mon 24-Apr-23 19:08:05

Can all you lucky people , who see it, please post pictures - no hope here in Wales

Doodledog Mon 24-Apr-23 19:04:15

We've come up to the Lakes in the hope of seeing them, but it is snowing grin. I won't be going far, but will leave the curtains open all night, and at the first sight of them we'll be out with cameras.

Aveline Mon 24-Apr-23 18:52:30

Seen last month in Tromsø. Try to see them if you can.
