Does it hit the sweet spot. Are you over or under? Does it matter to what you want to do in the future? I am restricting my alcohol intake. The person I would like to be goes running at dawn. The person I am chills out and carries a glass of wine round my garden in the evening. Where do you fit in?

harrigran Fri 28-Apr-23 07:40:52

I have a good wine cellar and often bulk buy especially from Waitrose so that it will be delivered. It doesn't mean I am a heavy drinker, I like to offer my guests a decent wine with their meal.

She could have been stocking up for a charity event she was hosting? The booze was on offer?
When Sainsbury's Buy 6 save 25% is on I go specifically for wine.

Though I have to say that I'm fascinated by other people's trolleys - but what they are buying is up to them.

So judgemental.
Everyone’s shopping is their own affair.
Judge not lest ye yourself be judged ( or something similar).

merlotgran Thu 27-Apr-23 22:06:32

I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in other people’s shopping.

Shopping with my son last week and this lady was on the same route as us. Her trolley was full of booze and little bits like bread, milk and a few veg. Her face was bright red like she drinks too much.

Surely that’s her business? 🤔

Most people notice what others buy, especially on the conveyor belt.

Really? I’ve got no interest at all in what other people are buying.

I was thinking the same, merlot. How awful to be judged by the contents of one shopping trolley, and a complexion that could be down to any number of things.

And the whiff of spirits that lingered around her. My son commented that he hoped somebody else would be driving her home.

I haven’t drunk any alcohol for 18 years does nothing for me, much rather a cuppa

Nannylovesshopping Thu 27-Apr-23 21:34:09

Have a g&t and a small glass of red every day😳

sodapop Thu 27-Apr-23 20:47:24

I agree Iam64 I enjoy a G&T or red wine with a meal. I limit myself if I think I am overdoing the alcohol. My secret vice is Baileys though.

merlotgran Thu 27-Apr-23 20:47:10

I’m delighted that Dalgliesh is back on channel 5 at 9 o’clock so a glass of Sauvignon blanc will go down nicely.

annsixty Thu 27-Apr-23 20:45:08

Absolutely Iam
I enjoy a drink with family and friends, I am not harming anyone and am healthy and happy.
Walked regularly until my 60’s , can’t do it now but enjoy life when I can.

kittylester Thu 27-Apr-23 20:42:52

Well said Iam. thanks

I drink as much or as little as i fancy, and as for counting units, forget that, enjoy life.

I have a unit in the evening , sometimes another half glass at the weekend. I’m noticing friends who drink a lot being fit n happy. Others, like my lovely husband who drank little ate well walked etc died far too young. If you don’t enjoy a glass of wine or s g snd t, thsts fine but let those of us who do, enjoy ourselves

Hetty58 Thu 27-Apr-23 20:27:39

Only when I'm out for dinner or there's a special occasion - so hardly ever. I like a cider or glass of wine. There's no alcohol at home, though, as my friends and family all drive so can't indulge.

annsixty Thu 27-Apr-23 20:01:36

I love a cocktail, a G&T and a glass of wine.
At 85 I am not going to change and it really can’t shorten my life by much.

ShazzaKanazza Thu 27-Apr-23 19:07:39

I love a glass or two of red wine. We have a large wine rack full that we get delivered. I’m trying to lose a little weight so have given up alcohol now through the week. I realise it’s just empty calories and I sleep better without a glass of wine. But I do love it.

merlotgran Thu 27-Apr-23 18:57:45

I believe young people are drinking less nowadays

I think that’s correct if my young adult grandchildren are anything to go by.

They don’t drink as often as we did when we were their age but when they do they tend to go for a stronger, more expensive tipple. We would never have been able to afford cocktails or shots even if they’d been available in the local pub.

There will always be drunken youngsters staggering around town centres on a Saturday night but I don’t think it’s any worse than it used to be.

seadragon Thu 27-Apr-23 17:38:23

Just in case you are not aware:
"https://www.gov.uk/drink-drive-limit" ....The limit is significantly lower in Scotland - I like a bottle of 'Muriel' on special occasions. Muriel is a lovely red wine and also happens to be my mum's name!

Mamie Thu 27-Apr-23 17:36:59

I have a small glass of cava and an inch of red most nights. I always remember our first GP here in France saying you could give up wine, cream and cheese and live longer, but it would feel like a very long time. 😂

Fleurpepper Thu 27-Apr-23 17:36:04

so glad you are feeling much better kitty.

Fleurpepper Thu 27-Apr-23 17:35:25

We only drin when in company- so way under recommended amount.

I am really concerned that the next generation are over on a constant basis, and think it is normal - because they all do it.

kittylester Thu 27-Apr-23 17:31:21

I believe young people are drinking less nowadays.

I have a glass or two of rose most evenings while I am cooking. DH has a couple of cans of Fosters in the kitchen with me We catch up on our days, watch the news and chunter!!

I was ill for 3 months and can't express how pleased I am to get this bit of normality back.
