Does it hit the sweet spot. Are you over or under? Does it matter to what you want to do in the future? I am restricting my alcohol intake. The person I would like to be goes running at dawn. The person I am chills out and carries a glass of wine round my garden in the evening. Where do you fit in?

A cocktail with a lunch out does it for me.

I had to look at UK measurements and recommendations, and yes I would be under the max amount per week.

On vacation, no. On sunny summer weeks, borderline!

I think I might just have to grow old disgracefully. However I am still contemplating the options. Hours in the gym or lunches out with friends and where is the happy medium?

I haven’t drunk alcohol for nearly 20 years

Me neither. Glad I'm not the only one.

On a normal week I would be under but if I had a party, bbq , night out , I would be over. I don’t drink during the week.

Only have a very occasional glass of wine if it’s a birthday or Christmas love a can of cider now and then but quite minimal so in an average week well well under many weeks would be zero

Never been much of a drinker, never much liked it. A glass of good red wine when we go out to dinner, a glass of cider or shandy when lunching in a pub, and that is about it.

Haven't had an alcoholic drink since Easter Monday. Mind you, go to our house in France and I may consume alcohol every day. Cider, mainly, as it is the traditional Normandy drink, but nowhere near 14 units a week.

I’m usually under 14 units as I have never liked drinking in the daytime and only drink at weekends when with family or friends.

I still enjoy my Friday night G&T though. Old habits die hard. 😂

Oldbat1 Wed 26-Apr-23 19:47:39

Only drink alcohol free lager or wine. I’ve never enjoyed drinking. Much easier nowadays as no pressure to consume.

I haven't had alcohol for over five years, due to the amount of meds I take. My cardiologist told me she saw no harm in having the odd glass of wine. I had one last weekend and felt awful!

Primrose53 Wed 26-Apr-23 20:12:12

I barely drink alcohol. Very occasionally I share a can of fruit cider with my husband so that’s about half a unit each!

I have been known to go on an All Inclusive holiday and not touch alcohol all week. 🤣

tanith Wed 26-Apr-23 20:39:05

I've not had an alcoholic drink for over 40yrs. I agree its easier to be tee-total nowadays.

Sago Wed 26-Apr-23 20:49:47

I was enjoying a couple of glasses of wine every evening with dinner, not any more😬.

I did sober October and it broke the habit.

We are away this weekend at a wedding, we will be joined by out two sons, I will probably exceed the recommended amount.

MiniMoon Wed 26-Apr-23 20:52:35

I do like a gin and tonic. I have one perhaps twice a week. I make it to my liking which is a little gin and a lot of tonic. I don't drink wine except when dining out.

Norah Wed 26-Apr-23 21:00:40

We're under. But we drink beer, shandy, radler, wine, G&T, Pims.

Sparklefizz Wed 26-Apr-23 21:19:49

I've never had much of a tolerance for alcohol and after I collapsed with M.E. even half a glass of wine made me very ill, so I haven't had alcohol for 34 years.

I have never missed it for the alcohol, but sometimes would have liked a glass of chilled white wine in the garden with friends on a summer's evening.

FranA Wed 26-Apr-23 21:27:26

It seems I am definitely in the minority as I struggle to keep to below the recommended 14 units.

I am often very surprised at how much booze older people have in their supermarket trolleys. Hundreds of pounds worth!

Smileless2012 Wed 26-Apr-23 21:52:17

I'm with you Fran with the glass of wine in the garden, not going for a run at dawngrin.

Maybe they’re generous hosts.

We purchase a lot, however we have a larger family. When they're round, without any children, we all drink.

Supermarket trolley contents don't reveal everything in a family.

Alcohol doesn't feature in my life at all. A couple of drinks at Christmas, and on my birthday, but that's it. Over-rated, IMHO, but each to their own.

paddyann54 Wed 26-Apr-23 22:02:06

I dont drink but our wine racks are always full and we have a booze cupboard that many a pub would be happy with. Before Covid we'd have people drop in without warning and we like to be able to be hospitable .On top of that we have around 4 GALLONS of home made Marsala ,that we made in our last house ,we moved here in 1989 .I've given some away and use it for cooking but it hardly seems to go down .It was 5 gallons originally .Most people we know have really cut back on alcohol
