I have not put this under Religion and Spirituality because on the whole I don’t believe in the supernatural.
But here goes.
A little after a year after DH died I was at a streamed performance of an opera (forget which) from Glyndebourne. DH and had been to Glyndebourne a few times, the long dress and Dinner jacket , picnic on the lawns- the works!
This performance was introduced by a short film around the grounds, tables set out for the interval picnics, opera goers in their evening dress etc etc and I clearly saw DH sitting at one of the tables wearing his signature Panama hat . I turned to the friends I was with to point him out but the camera moved on and he was gone.
It clearly wasn’t actually him, this had been filmed years after our last visit, but I saw him.
Then last year I was in that half awake half asleep state first thing in the morning , turned over in bed and clearly heard him say “I love….” (but no more)
I am not hearing voices, the little men in white coats do not need to be sent for and I don’t believe in ghosts.
But…..
Anybody willing to share similar experiences?

My husband was giving me a lift to work at school one morning as he always did.
On the way we passed the chap who I worked with going in the wrong direction to the school.
It was obviously him, and he was in his white old sports car.
I said ‘Look David, there’s Paul’
‘So it is, where is he going, do you think?’
‘He might be going to pick up Irene, her car might have broken down…’
On we went.
Going into school, I was surprised to see Paul already there.
‘Ooh, hello’ I said surprised and confused how he was there before me.
‘Where were you going just now?’
It wasn’t him.
But David and I both had seen him, in his car, clear as anything
I find this very interesting what you have shared here. My personal belief is that when a person dies, their spirit still lives on. My nan died early 1970's. In 1995 I got off a train and glanced at my car in the car park, there sat in the front passenger seat, as clear as can be, was my nan wearing her favourite coat. I think your DH is watching over you and the loving bond is still there.
How did you feel after you’d seen him in the film?
Although I would not go to see a spiritualist, I do think our loved ones watch over us and sometimes give us a little nudge to remind us they are there.
You could probably say even if you DH had still been alive and you had gone to see that live screening would you have turned to him and said "didn't he look like you ?" We all have a twin in this world . but hey who knows it may have been him reminding you of the good times together the same with the voice in your dream. I would take comfort from it .
I have felt as if someone was sitting on the bed and talking to me but when I looked no one was there .
My daughter when she was a child used to have two " imaginary friends" she said they had lived in our house and moved to Australia they were definitely real to her and it was an old house.
The eyes play tricks on us, and the mind. You see something similar (a hat, a white sports car ) and the mind makes a quick connection.A friend had to have her black cat pts a few years ago and she ‘saw’ him a lot, only it wasn’t.Sometimes it was a real cat belonging to a neighbour and sometimes a black bag on a chair and so on. The brain is a curious thing.
Something familiar not similar, tho it could be both.

How did you feel after you’d seen him in the film?
I did feel comforted as we both loved Glyndebourne and it reminded me of the happy experiences there,
The hearing him wasn’t the same. It unsettled me, making me very sad and tearful - perhaps too real?

I felt my mom kiss me shortly after she died, when I was waking up. That made me cry too
What a shame it didn’t make you feel happy Foxygloves☹️
Yes I believe in the after life - that’s the only way I can survive - if not, what’s the purpose of our existence? I have not ‘seen anyone’ but I have certainly felt my mother’s presence, especially when I was going through a divorce. One night, I just could not sleep, and I felt a quiet, soft breeze on my face. She used to fan me to sleep when I was a little girl. No ceiling fans in our house those days.
I used to live in a terrace two up and down in Derby. I often got a strong sense of a man, sitting in an armchair and being very dominating to his family. The strange apparition appeared mostly when I was on the small staircase.
I wasn't scared but the feeling of "him" was unpleasant.
The scary bit is after I moved away by making an exchange out of that city.
A couple of weeks after moving I spoke to the other exchanger on the phone.
She said all was ok except she wished I had warned her of the resident ghost !!!
She went on to describe the man I had seen.
She also said she knew how to get rid of the ghost and had done so.
I had never spoken to anyone about the ghost because I didn't want my teen DD to be afraid.
I have had 2 other spooky experiences though without the validation of another person.
DH died nearly 2 and a half years ago and though I think of him often I don't dream of him
Then a month or so back he was in my dream and it was really vivid. It was Summer and he was wearing a bright checked shirt and was tanned and happy.
Other people were about and it seemed to be on a farm or in the countryside.
He spoke to me and let me kiss him! He didn't kiss me..I woke feeling really happy.
Love doesn't end with death. That's for sure
I’ve never seen or experienced anything, but I know extremely down to earth, formerly sceptical people who have.
A niece and her family moved into a large old property , bits of which dated back at least 200 years. The family never sensed anything creepy or untoward, but their dog - a normally chilled and happy animal - refused absolutely to set a paw over the threshold of a certain part of the house.
Niece mentioned it to neighbours, and someone local - said to have ‘the gift’. - offered to take a look. (I might add, she was unpaid.). What she said was that there had once been a tragic but unintended death, and the person responsible was still there, out of guilt.
At any rate, she asked him to leave, and he evidently left, because after that the dog was perfectly happy to enter that part of the house. (I’m sure the scoffers will now tell me that the dog had imagined it…).
A friend’s sister and her husband bought a house that seemed like a bargain - the former owners were in a hurry to sell. After a fairly short time, after her husband had as usual left very early for work every morning, the woman (still in bed) started to ‘sense’ that someone was sitting on the end of the bed.
Although it didn’t feel at all threatening, the sensation grew stronger, and she ‘knew’ the presence was male. Obviously it was very unsettling though, and eventually a medium was called in.
She said his name was Albert and he was an old soldier. She asked him to leave, and presumably he did, because the sensations ceased. But the couple then knew why the former owners had been in a hurry to sell at a bargain price!
This was in Derby too.
I rented a house with a friend and I hated it there. I’d spend all of my time out of the house if I could, and I’m very ‘indoorsy’. I couldn’t wait to move out, and for a while I even reluctantly lived with an ex boyfriend in order not to live there.
One day, over 20 years later I was walking past the awful house with an older colleague who’d lived in Derby all her life.
She pointed to the house and said that it was there that several rapes had taken place, years ago.
She had no idea that I’d lived there.
The day after my Mum died very suddenly, I had a very vivid dream. I was in a large house in an empty room and through the door I could see into the adjacent room. It was full of people laughing and talking and with her back to me, Mum. She turned round and said”Don’t worry, I’m quite all right,” and went back to her conversation. I took a bit of comfort from that.
I've had several unexplained experiences, going back to childhood, involving the appearance of close relatives who have passed over. I never discuss these in any detail with relatives or friends, as I know that there's a great deal of scepticism about the supernatural. I would never visit a medium, or go to a Spiritualist church, but would never criticise those who choose to do so. Were my experiences waking dreams? I very much doubt it, as I seldom remember any dreams that I have had, yet these visions remain as vivid memories. All I would say is that I have a very open mind about a form of existence which continues after death, and my instinct, or is it wishful thinking, is that our essence, or soul, survives our physical passing.
I have had a ew ''funny'' experiences concerning dead relatives.
The last one was about my husband who died over three years ago.I had a very vivid dream in which I saw him very clearly standing on the platform of a railway station along with other people. They seemed to be meeting a load of people getting off a train. He then turned his head to me and said, ''I am in the group who meets them all coming in and we take them where we all are''. He seemed very happy and content.
The thing about this was that he loved showing people places when he was alive, so I can imagine him carrying on doing it where he is now!
I’ve had a few odd experiences but the one that really stands out for me was when my darling friend went abroad and had the most horrendous accident. We couldn’t get any information about him. Heard the odd snippet at work. We knew it was bad. Then one night, whilst lying in bed, I heard him saying my name quite clearly as I was reading. I knew then he’d be ok. He lived, he came home after almost a year in a foreign hospital.
I was with my lovely mum when she died, around 5 in the morning. Later that day I was back at home, working in the kitchen, when the front door opened and closed. I called out to say where I was, and waited for one of my adult sons to come through to the kitchen. When no-one appeared, I went upstairs to check that they were all right, but the house was empty. I think Mum decided just to come home with me.
A month or so ago I posted on GN an experience I had had earlier this year.
We had collected my grandson from a small park where he had been playing football with some friends. This was on the outskirts of a small town in West Sussex. Whilst DH was driving I looked out of the car window and saw 3 shops set back off the road. In the middle was an antiques shop with the door open and and a brass coal scuttle at the front and a broom. I immediately said to DH ‘there’s an antiques shop there that I would like to visit sometime’. The following day I dropped my DGS off at school in the same village and decided I would visit the antiques shop. I walked up the road and to my surprise there was no row of shops just a housing estate. Very odd. 🤔
Someone from GN kindly sent me some photos online of that village in the 1950s but I couldn’t find those shops, even though they had been so clear for me to see.
I was quite unnerved by the episode.
Yes I have had bits and pieces. But we tend to keep things to ourselves don't we! Why? because no one will believe us! why? because they were not there at the time.
Surely we can't all be mad and imagining/seeing things that are not really there. Surely not.
How come so many people say they have seen things from past times/past lives. Like another thread on here, people seeing rows of shops and houses, yet when they went back they were no longer there.
We cannot all of us be imagining things, can we. There must be something out there.
That was me bikergran. The row of shops was crystal clear !
Ha yes NanKate you must have been typing that the same time I was typing * ( so there you are! spooky ehhh) Coincidence or...........
A few things although I'm not a believer at all.
When my beloved granny died, when I was 11, I had a really strong sense that she was with me for at least 10 years. I was her favourite and it would make sense for her to watch over me, although as a child, I knew nothing about this theory of life after death.
Less positively, I lived in a house temporarily that I'm convinced was haunted. I was in a real state, the whole time we lived there and honestly doubted my mental health. But I was 100% back to normal from the day we moved out.
