Well I thought I would start this thread for those who are going to sit back and enjoy the day.

At the beginning of my life -I was 6 years old, I was at Hyde Park Corner under a policeman’s cap, in the pouring rain, now at 77 I am at home in front of the television.

I shall enjoy every minute of it. Just watching the guests arriving.

Just watching the procession to the cathedral. How on earth do the mounted band manage to play while riding! I think some of the brass musicians may loose their teeth.

Beautiful coach.

I loved every minute of it

M0nica

I have been a fan of Penny Mordaunt ever since the late Queen's death. As Lord President of the Council, she chaired the Council meeting that officially declared Prince Charles to be King.

When many women in high places were wearing figure skimming black dresses and 'open' necks, she, wore a black suit, that absolutely was in keeping with the quasi judicial nature of the proceedings, and formality of the dress of the men present.

Couldn’t agree more M0nica.
Loved every minute of the coverage, as did DH and 11 year old DDG who “learned a lot about royal things today” and proceeded to make an orb, a sceptre and a sword!

May I just say that I hope Archie had a lovely birthday today.

Just a perfect day.

Penny Mordaunt looked just right and thankfully she had a holster for the sword. It’s very difficult to stand still for long periods with all eyes on you.
I too am conscious of the ages of the now King and Queen, Charles being the oldest ever to have been crowned. Looked a strain. Glad it all went off so well.

Hi Holly, yes it did look exhausting.
Penny really was a star.
Though someone on the radio has just referred to her as ‘the air hostess’, which I couldn’t help but smile at

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 03:10:01

I’ve just noticed that this thread is now one of the many that don’t move up the Active List 🙄

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 04:08:16

Is anyone else going to watch it again?

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 04:12:51

I’ve just heard that Penny Mourdant did press ups to prepare herself

nanna8 Sun 07-May-23 04:45:05

It was fabulous and even for the really anti monarchists something worth seeing. We loved every minute of it and stayed up until midnight watching .

Rachel Cooke in Thr Grauniad has perfectly expressed my own reaction and thoughts.
A fabulous bit of writing

Thank you Fanny, I have just read that Guardian piece. Spot on ,I thought, and agree with everyone about Penny Mourdant…. What a fabulous woman.

It makes me proud to be British to see all the pomp and ceremony.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 07-May-23 05:31:56

The thing with Penny Mordaunt is that she has what I would call a “presence”. In another life she would have been an actress I think. Her sartorial elegance always seems to ensure she is spot on in her choice of clothing. Apparently she chose the outfit then had the embroidery added.

ronib Sun 07-May-23 05:35:07

But …. I find myself missing QE2! She had the most beautiful smile and real joy. Even photos of QE2’s last few days on earth show her smiling inner strength and enthusiasm. A very hard act to follow.

vegansrock Sun 07-May-23 05:38:44

Some on Twitter have accused Penny Mordant of giving Poundland free advertising

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 05:40:04

Yes, I saw that grin

vegansrock Sun 07-May-23 06:16:16

Not to mention that Princess Anne looked like she was about to audition for Dick Whittington or maybe it was she was about to fight Napoleon. 🙂

Aveline Sun 07-May-23 06:37:54

I saw this on Twitter

Whitewavemark2 Sun 07-May-23 07:15:09

Does anyone know if that colour ( Penny Mordaunt saga) had any significance? Only I think it jarred a bit with the colours on display by everyone else.

A dark green or dark red would have fitted in better I think.

But maybe the colour teal (I think) has significance?

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 07:20:26

WW Totally contradicting you smile, I noticed that it was exactly the same colour as one of the ‘supporting’ Bishop’s cape.
I even wondered if it was the exact same cloth.
I’ll see if I can find a picture

FannyCornforth Sun 07-May-23 07:23:00

It was one of the bishops who put the symbolic articles on the table

Calendargirl Sun 07-May-23 07:32:13

I enjoyed it all, but for me, one of the best things was the fact that DD in Australia was watching as well, albeit several hours ahead of us.

We were able to keep messaging each other as we were watching, commenting on the guests, the clothes, the proceedings. It was the same the day the late Queen died, we kept in touch constantly.

Although she lives thousands of miles away, and we haven’t met up in real life for five years, the Royal Family are a real link with ‘home’ for her.

Her DH is Australian, and her three, practically grown up children are far more Aussie than British, but they all watched and enjoyed seeing history in the making.

As they toasted the King and Queen in champagne, she wrote “No republicans in this house!”

Oh thanks, that is what I mean, I wonder if it had significance?
