Well I thought I would start this thread for those who are going to sit back and enjoy the day.

At the beginning of my life -I was 6 years old, I was at Hyde Park Corner under a policeman’s cap, in the pouring rain, now at 77 I am at home in front of the television.

I shall enjoy every minute of it. Just watching the guests arriving.

I read that there were 'conveniences' in a side aisle. Phew!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-May-23 09:13:09

Also just to lower the tone a tad - how do the service personnel manage their bladder as they are there on parade for 6 hours!!😮.

Perhaps they are wearing Billy Connelly trousers😄😄

I'm watching and am flicking between bbc and itv coverage at the moment. The marching of all the troops I love to see.

I too wondered about the loo situation for those in the Abbey have to all be seated by 9am for the 11am service. Can't have people popping out to the toilet all the time can they..

Anybody know what Rory Stewart’s uniform is?

FannyCornforth Sat 06-May-23 09:05:58

Rory Stewart 🤩

Primrose thanks for the heads up about Starkey. I think I will flit between stations as I’m not a fan of Huw Edwards 🥱

I was up at 6 - dd1 and family, 3 young children - stayed last night and were off to central London, with dh, by 6.30 - trains all arrived v quickly so they were close to a big Green Park screen shortly after 7. Their cousin from near Liverpool is on her way to meet up with them - plus her dh and 4 young dcs inc. a very young baby! Kids all v excited.

I will be watching from the sofa!

My eyes ache if I watch too much TV but will dip in and out throughout the day. Watching all the guests arriving just now.

I will be watching GB News channel as they have the historian Dr David Starkey commentating and I just love the way he explains all the history and pageantry and I don’t think anybody else can match him on that.

Just seen singer Katie Perry arriving in an enormous pink hat - wouldn’t want to be sitting behind her!

kircubbin2000 Sat 06-May-23 08:54:40

Sky are filming my daughter's street party so I will have to look out for that!

Aveline Sat 06-May-23 08:51:29

Wow. Great outfit! Am watching now. Smoked salmon sandwiches prepared and lovely strawberries ready. Big Victoria sponge waiting...
Me? More interested in the grub? !

Look

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-May-23 08:43:50

Just seen a photo of Rory Stewart - he looks very posh!

Calendargirl Sat 06-May-23 08:42:43

P.S.

I won the radio in a Gransnet competition!

Calendargirl Sat 06-May-23 08:42:13

Benedict Cumberbatch speaking.

In the background, he has the same radio as me!

Kandinsky Sat 06-May-23 08:37:28

Barbra Streisand looks good for 80.

Lexisgranny Sat 06-May-23 08:32:24

Oh, should have added I will be sitting with the programme of the Queen’s coronation on my knewe, to see how the service compares.

eazybee Sat 06-May-23 08:29:55

Just switched on, determined to watch as much as possible, as I remember watching Queen Elizabeth's coronation on our eleven inch black and white screen of our brand new television. I was actually more thrilled that I could now watch Muffin the Mule regularly.

grannydarkhair Sat 06-May-23 08:28:00

For those interested in the uniforms, Deedaa started a thread about a programme called Coronation Tailors. It’s on iPlayer and is a wonderful watch.

Do hope the weather holds out, and the fly past is able to take place.

Oh I hope so too!

I keep checking the London weather and it says rain, rain and more rain 😞

Fingers crossed they've got it wrong. Won't be the first time!

Grandma70s Sat 06-May-23 08:22:16

I’m already watching.

Like Ailidh, I always wonder what the congregation, and everyone else involved, do about going to the loo.

Lexisgranny Sat 06-May-23 08:21:45

I watched the late Queen’s coronation sitting on a fat cushion on the floor in my grandparents’ home, the room was full of grown ups sitting on chairs, but today anno domini has promoted me to a comfy chair, old age has some compensations!

I do hope that everything today goes without a hitch, that grievances are put aside for this one day, so that we can all enjoy the spectacle without ill feeling, I hope that the King and Queen have a memorable day.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 06-May-23 08:21:33

Like some of the outfits

Dickens Sat 06-May-23 08:21:13

I have just read this and like to think of them having a precious bit of quiet time, Camilla perhaps kicking her shoes off and, given their joint love for gardening, watching Monty Don on “Gardeners World” .

I'm not a Royalist, but I found this scenario quite appealing!

Sparklefizz Sat 06-May-23 08:18:10

I have the TV on already. I expect I shall cry as the ceremonies and music and the Abbey are always so moving.

I hope the protests are kept under control. What a nightmare for security added to all the other high risks, and I feel for them. I hope all goes well.

Calendargirl Sat 06-May-23 08:16:36

Do hope the weather holds out, and the fly past is able to take place.

Ziplok Sat 06-May-23 08:15:32

I shall be tuning in later. Looking forward to it, I love a bit of pageantry 😁. First off though, I’ve got some scones to make ready for our afternoon tea.
To everyone who will be watching, enjoy. 🎉
